Puppy Vaginitis: Spaying vs. Heat Cycle

Both of our pups have puppy vaginitis. I have read varying opinions about whether to let them go through a heat cycle or going ahead and spaying them. My vet recommends having them go through a heat cycle and waiting two months after that to spay. I am leaning towards this approach, but then I worry about the increased chance of mammary cancer with letting them go through a heat cycle. I tend to over think things obliviously.

I did use the search feature, but only came up with one thread from about a year ago. I do clean their private parts twice a day and their U/A's are negative, so no antibiotics are being used. The oldest pup is 7 1/2 months and I think she is close to going into heat. But I really don't know much about heat cycles since we have aways had our dogs spayed. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Linda
