Heads up - Pioneer Woman on Bobby Flay's Throwdown tomorrow

PW fans - Ree Drummond will be the competitor on Throwdown tomorrow - the competition is Thanksgiving dinner. I think they shot it at her cabin.

Thanks! I also like Throwdown & I really like PW's cinnamon rolls. If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend her recipe with one caveat. She likes way more icing than we are comfortable with so we cut that in half after the first batch. Because each batch makes 48 rolls it's also good for this time of year cooking for large groups. We bake them in those disposable round foil pans. I'm looking forward to the show.

Some smart@ss in my family put the Lady Gaga documentary at the top of the queue. Doesn't hurt that we like Lady Gaga, but sheesh, its not even in Blu-Ray. I just put 'Bitter Feast' on 'Save', with Mario Batali playing against type. Love those snow angels! Momj's cat has the right idea. And David... those rolls.. yummm... Both of us have colds. As Christy was hacking across the pillow the other night I knew my turn was coming and sure enough yesterday it set in. So today as I mentioned on the spilt pea thread we made two pounds of split pea soup. I was going to make biscuits but wasn't feeling that great so we are having toast croutons with it. That's what my Mother always made so that's always nice to have good memories along with a bowl of goodness. I love cornbread with it but Christy doesn't so I if I feel better tomorrow I'll make some so I can have it for a couple days while I have the soup for breakfast and lunch. Smiles. Tomorrow, since she's not quite up to par, Christy is going to make one of her comfort foods, weenie stew. Hot dogs cooked in a tomato sauce with N.O. seasonings [grn. pepper, onion, celery and garlic] and served over mashed potatoes. Surprisingly good and super easy. It finally started snowing here. Everything has a good covering but that's about it so far. It has been quite cold. Ten in the mornings and up to about sixteen during the day. It stays colder here on our little hill than the surrounding area. Hopefully we won't get this much this time. Smiles. Just thought I'd throw this pet pic in. This was from our Dec. blizzard.

I happened on this site and enjoyed reading the comments about the direction of the food network. I too used to be a real fan of the network, but do not watch it on a regular basis. I chalked it up to m y life getting busier and TiVO, but that knew those weren't the only reasons b/c when I catch Julia or Jaques or Lidia on TV, I find myself sitting there and watching. Can't say that about the shows on the FN. I do like Giada, Ina (think b/c onf the calming nature of their shows, Giada's style and the fact that I actually do learn something and have tried and like their recipes). I also like Nigella b/c of the naughtly, yet subltle "not obvious" sensual way she has with preparing food. These 3 are my fav's b/c I actually learn something and have tried their recipes. I even like ole' martha b/c of the same reason. I am a black woman who grew up in a fairyly "boustrius" family in the bronx during the 60's and 70's. I and my family used to LOVE watching Julia Child (I commonly referred to her as "the cooking lady") on the "ups" channel 13 in NY, on a black and white t.v., grainy picture and all. How is it that "the cooking lady" could command the attention of my family and I is beyond me, but I think it had to do with her voice, precesne and the fact that we actually LEARNED something. Juslia also had a dry sense of humor and thought nothing of bringing out a blow torch, goggles and all, in a couple of the earlier episodes. I thankfully have most of her videos and watch them as my life permits. I am glad FN is reconizing the need for diversity, but the Neely's, sorry to say, are not the answer. I confess tat I only watch the episodes that feature one or more Neely men. Gina's over the top, swinging of the fake hair, need for attention attitude/behavior and screechy/baby voice drives me nuts. I don't need a FN "personality" telling me how/what to do w/my man in the kitchen...I have that covered just fine, thank you. PLEASE FOOD NETWORK, if you are reading this, LET THE NEELY MEN HAVE THEIR OWN SHOW WITH OUT GINA NEELY!!! P.S. Thanks to the "Eric08" that forwarded the link to the Tony Bourdain commentary. It cracked my up. Tony is another of my favorite chefs. Unapologetically real.

Paula is married also. Her husband appears on some of her shows. To me the entire thing centers around the change in policy with the Food Channel, DIY, Home & Garden, etc. In the beginning of these channels they had people that actually cooked, folks that actually fixed stuff and people that actually gardened. Shows had more content, fewer commercials and commercials geared more toward the content of the programs. All of that is pretty much out the window. Many of the shows are contrived with, IMO, Iron Chef taking the cake. There are several shows I do like on PBS when they aren't having their endless pledge drives. I am a guy that actually cooks, fixes things, collects antiques, does woodworking and teaches high school science.

Thanks Gina! I'm a fan of PW. My neice has been picking out recipes from her book and cooking with my sister. They made the French Pastry Puff this past weekend. YUM!! Her ranch is about 30 miles Northwest of me. Should be a good show.

I'm confused..saw a commercial this morning saying it was on tonight. So, I just looked at the FN website & it says the episode airs at 9:00 p.m. this evening. Makes more sense than first airing it in the middle of the afternoon? Is it different all across the country?

Me-thinks Cathy has her AMs and PMs mixed up. It's on at 9pm ET, 8pm CT, 7pm MT. Only Pacific is adjusted for time zone - 9pm.

I enjoyed the program. I won't reveal the winner in case someone hasn't watched it yet.

I'm eager to read her blog about behind the scenes, which she will post after the airing. Her biggest concern was wearing an empire waist top on TV!

The food looked good and the ranch was amazing! I was waiting for a good close-up of Cowboy Josh and where was Charlie for goodness sake? I'm afraid I cringed at Bobby Flay's soupy dressing......shudder.....I would have to politely decline that mess.

Teresa, I agree. Do they take visitors at that lodge? I never realized the ranch is so huge!

Unlike Dancing With the Stars, I think the right person won. He had me at the brussels sprouts (which I hate, by the way).

Yeah, where was the MM and Charlie? It was nice to "meet" Hyacinth, whose name I love.

MM and Charlie were both there. :) Charlie made it twice and MM carved Ree's turkey.

MM was in a lot of shots, strong and silent with grayish goatee and cowboy hat on (inside the lodge even). I was interested in the brussels sprouts until the pomegranete seeds were added.

Yes, Brandy was robbed!

I truly enjoyed watching the throwdown. Ree is so charming. And, yes, the right person did win.

I also enjoyed the show & am pleased with the outcome. Am I the only one that thought Bobby looked very tired & not quite himself? I know he's been on a book tour for 'Throwdown' & I don't know when the show was filmed so, hopefully, he was just exhausted & not ill.

I loved the pommegranite seeds, thought they looked beautiful & I love those things. It was a favorite holiday treat in my stocking as a kid. I'd make such a mess eating them! :)

That wasn't like any regular Throwdown. It's like it was Ree's debut as a Food Network personality. I spotted Charlie, all Ree's punks, and Marlboro Man, looking quite manly.

The food looked good but pretty ordinary except for Bobby's pumpkin bread pudding - that was interesting.

Tricia, I agree, I thought he looked low energy.

Gina, It was pretty ordinary/traditional but that was okay with me since that's what my Thanksgiving menu is this year.

Wondering what is ahead for PW that's why I'm eager to read the recap of the throwdown on her blog.

Does anyone know if the recipes will be available? I've checked BF's pages on the Food Network site and Ree's blog, but so far, nada. I really want the sauces they each made for their desserts as well as Bobby's brussels sprouts.
