Washington again

This was across the Potomac at Gravelly Point, just north of National Airport. It was a good place to watch planes take off. The almost 2 megabyte picture of the Monument is so sharp. I wish someone would come up with a way to resize pictures and not lose the sharpness.

Gmom,
I see you are using photobucket. Try changing the upload options so the saved file will be larger. It wont solve the problem but it will help. The thumbnail size will not change at all, I like the 1MB size but you dont have to use that. Anything larger than the 492x369 dimensions your pictures are are displayed will at show more detail. Hope I could help.

Thanks, Joe, for the info. I thought all pictures had to be below 100kb to be posted on this site. This one I used Photobucket to resize and upload at 1 mb. It does look sharper, too. A lot of people have dial-up (thank goodness we have DSL now) so you really have to want to look at a picture to take the time for it to open. Now to see if the forum will accept the larger file. Gosh, it's huge.

WoW! I'm really bad at this... I'll just post the links. The first pic in the gallery is the branch in question. It is growing a lot faster than the rest of the branches and the leaves are much larger. The second picture is of the trunk and the low branch is the one in question. some twigs dying is normal in Washington Navel. Considering the amount of work you did with the roots, really the tree looks to have very little shock. I would have expected more set back after that sort of transplanting. As to the flowers, it is also normal for there to be a big blossoms drop. Also normal is for there to be only a very small percentage of blossoms that make a fruit. From what I see, just keep watering daily and let is settle into it's new home. Light pruning of the brown twigs would be good, bot don't cut into the green. Just remove the dead wood. It would be nice if those lovely scented blossoms lasted longer wouldn't it?

which tree should I get? Meyer Lemon or Washington Navel Orange?

Well, kind of depends on what you want - juice or eating out of hand. The Meyer is an outstanding lemon. I'm a big fan like John. I use the Meyer for cooking, all my lemonade, and for my Limoncello. But, I couldn't be without a Valencia orange, as that makes the best orange juice. I love my Cara Cara as I think it's the best eating out of hand navel orange. Navel oranges will produce juice, but navel oranges contain a much higher chemical that causes the juice to become bitter if refrigerated, so traditionally navel oranges, like the Cara Cara, are for eating out of hand, whereas the Valencia is for both eating out of hand and juicing. So, decide what your grandmother would prefer, and that's your choice :-) Then, just get the other one for yourself, and you can swap fruits! Patty S.

Ahh .. so the truth comes out! You wanted to get her out here to D.C. so you could have the dog!!! There were a LOT of tourists out today around the National Mall -- Wanda's right -- it was beautiful weather! Clear blue sky. No problem. When I am posting a picture that large I do try to remember to use a linked thumbnail though. I guess there are some dial-ups still here.

I see that the resized pic of the monument has way less dots per inch than the original...The resizer I use maintains the DPI and the picture loses no sharpness.
I took your original and resized it to your dimensions and got a sharper print.

Maybe try it.

Thanks, all. Joe, even when I use different upload options, the picture is more than 100 KB. But in checking the properties of some pictures that others post, I see that they are more than 100 KB.
Leslie, I am trying the program you suggest. So far, I haven't made much progress with it. But I'll keep experimenting. Thanks.
It will be nice when these forums are fast again.
