Paint for all the woodwork..diff colors d/s and u/s?

We have all natural wood downstairs and upstairs..The house is pretty old..maybe 20-30 years, but we feel that the wood makes hte house look OLDER than it is..

As I said, the wood is all natural, and we are thinking of painting it a dark cherry/mahogany color..What do you think?

Upstairs, for all the wood doors, we are thinking of using just White paint like in all new houses..What type of paint would be best?

When you are walking upstairs, you can see a bathroom door, which will be white soon..should the handrails and banister be white wood also? or should we go w/ the dark wood color? b/c it would look awkward if it was all white upstairs and then just lead downstairs to wood..

Downstairs, we are thinking of using the dark wood color, which we should prbly paint the whole downstairs..

Any ideas, comments? Will post pictures soon if needed.

Thanks alot!
