Great, I had Gordons Fillets last night. I sent Main Man to the store yesterday after Judy mentioned that was what she was having for dinner. It sounded good.

We only ate one each. No pill that we noticed. Gulp! I imagine with lent that several people have been eatting these fillets.

Pretty scarry!

Seems kind of strange to me that all three pieces they were eating contained a pill...

If pills were spilled into the batter you would think they would be stirred around and end up one here and one there...you know...different boxes.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone is looking to make a buck or two off Gorton's

jillmcm is exactly right. Most people consider fish barely more than an aquatic plant with eyes whereas birds are given a more exalted status because they remind us more of ourselves: they're warm-blooded, they display signs of complex behavior, they take care of their young, etc. And of course, feathers are more attractive than scales to most people. Same thing with nutria in some of the Gulf states - I know they're invasive, and using them as a food source for people and captive predators in wildlife sanctuaries is the best solution, but I still don't like it. I don't like killing any animals, actually, but I won't object when people are killing invasive species, as long as it's done humanely (except domestic cats - I know the havoc outdoor cats wreak on small animals, but there have got to be better solutions than letting people use them for target practice - no matter what the rationalization, I will not be happy that people are killing on a wide scale the same intelligent, playful, personable animals that live in my home). On this same topic of invasive animals, have any of you seen the recent photographs and stories about the pythons in the Everglades? So many idiots have dumped their unwanted pet pythons in the Everglades when they got large or too bothersome to care for any more that the pythons are disrupting the whole food chain now. Scientists were hoping that alligators could keep the pythons in check, but after recently finding a python that had literally popped open after swallowing a pretty large alligator (too large for the python, at least!), they now think that the alligators and pythons are going to be at a draw, at best. One more invasive species to deal with - and a top predator, at that. Wouldn't it be nice if the pythons focused their feeding on all the thousands of iguanas that were also dumped there by irresponsible owners? I personally think that along with banning dozens of plant species, pythons and iguanas ought to also be banned from sale in Florida and other places where they can survive in the wild. But that certainly won't happen, at least not any time soon. It's hard enough getting people to give up plants, much less a type of pet.

Jerzee, I really thought about what you posted. I asked myself if I honestly was just jealous of her success. I don't think I'm jealous of her success per se, but rather her success made me question my own abilities. She's a top producer at our office, and I'm lucky to have her as a partner; she's helped me immensely and throws lots of leads and deals my way. I just got home after that day and found myself thinking, "What is WRONG with me?" Like PaigeCT, I was thinking "I *should have* done this-or-that. A "proficient" individual would have done fill_in_the_blank..." I believe that's the root of the whole thing. Her success juxtaposed with my horribly bad open house made me question my own abilities, and made me think that I'd made a mistake, I'd never get it right, I'd screwed everything up, etc. While I know those aren't rational, that's where I was. (Poor DH, when I got home and he asked me how it went, I screamed at him, burst into tears and ran back to the bedroom, leaving him standing there with a cookie crumb dangling from his lips and a bewildered and hurt look on his face.) Fact is, when I'm up, I'm pretty much unstoppable. I don't care what the *facts* are, I can get stuff done. But when my confidence is shaken and I don't believe in myself, the world becomes a very scary place! I just need to chalk that day up for what it was; a learning experience. I need to put on my *big girl pants* and go find someone else to help! (Can you tell I'm beginning to become annoyed with myself? I don't have too much tolerance for being down....) Paige, THANK YOU for sharing your own experience. I really emphasizes "That's how life is", and it wasn't just me!! And Susanfnp, I have to say that I've never thought of my "act now---question later" attributes as being GOOD things. I've always considered my impetuous behaviors to be a bad thing, and so I consequently feel guilty about 99% of the time. You really made me realize that I need to have a different perspective! Almost EVERYTHING I do is done without hesitation, and I honestly never looked at that as being a good quality. Just last week, I got the wild hair to remodel a small powder room. One minute I was telling DH that we needed to pick out tile, and then next minute I had the crowbar in my hand removing the old stuff. I felt TOTALLY guilty for 3 days, as I felt like I was "putting everyone out" and not being a good wife, mother, broker, etc. But you know what? That powder room is finished. In 3 days. Why didn't I see that as a good thing before? Wow. What a catharsis. Nothing like seeing your own mess scrawled in black and white on the WWW for a little introspection!! Honestly, thank you. I really do have a different (and much healthier) perspective. And Pecan, I would NEVER turn down your pound cake. It's to die for!

Not too much. Spent the morning visiting my aunt at the assisted living facility. Then came home and polished the upstairs floors with Old English Scratch Cover--does a GREAT job on floors. Then spent some time organizing and paying bills. DH came home late--they've been working overtime every day--and I reached into the freezer to get some bacon for BLT's.... Ooops, knew I had bacon, but I realized it's at the other house, so we ran out for Chick Fila. Then, when we got home, the little gal next door was out, she got interested when she saw my husband changing the batteries in my metal detector, so I tossed a handful of change into the back yard when she wasn't looking and let her have fun finding it.

I have a plastic heron which is moved around a regular and different intervals. The heron still visits and pays no attention to the 'fake'. As a matter of interest we have found how it enters the garden..... It lands on the large open field behind our garden where due to the topology it has a good view of what is going on. It then moves down the field behind my neighbours bach (east)fence, waits, then jumps on to the fence, walks long the top of the fence until he reacahed my fence (north)where it travels inwards until it can jump down on to a small area of clear grass..... very devious! However to my knowledge, and despite two or three visits a week, the design of the pond has foxed it. However, just in case a couple of water scarecrows are in position! Our worst offender has been the kingfisher to whom we lost over 20 fish in a couple of months some 5 years back. These days, probably due to our fish being somewhat larger that he can take away, we rarely see him. I'm not sure where you are Gerry, but my mother's neighbour down in deepest Sussex has lost some of her fish due to seagulls this year - not sure if the water scarecrow will activate okay with these guys! Just keeping watching, buy a water scarecrow, and don't give up! David.

Why didn't she notify the Pa. Dept. of Health, she notified everyone else she could think of. Health Depts. follow up on food items.

her story sounds kind of 'fishy' to me. hee hee.

Saw on news just now they're recalling 1000 cases of the fish. No wonder our grocery prices are going out of sight.

Hmmm, sounds like aspirin but could be anything really. I wonder if the kids put them in there somehow to play a trick on mom - odds are likely quite small that 3 pieces in one box would have wayward pills, but who knows.
Remember the froggy in the salad bag? I saw a Rice Krispie square in a store once with a slug sticking out one end - lots of stuff like this happens, so it's not impossible, but still seems pretty unlikely.

How would a pill stay intact in a wet fish?

There's an update on Snopes about this- seems the pills were inserted at the household at which they were "discovered". They are saying one of the kids did it.

How much money do you suppose that recall cost the company? Will the family be held liable? Hmmmph.

Surprise surprise surprise. Really? The family did it? I'm simply shocked I tell you. Shocked.

Darn right they should be held liable. I don't care if the kids did it. A trip to the ER, a call to the company, a recall and then they fess up? Yeah excellent parenting and values being taught in that family. Future gangsta punks need to be nipped in the bud. Starting with the parents.

Thanks for posting that update. Hope they sue the family. Besides the cost to thecompany think of how many Gorton products were probably thrown out by consumers.

Yes - thanks for updating.

I am always suspicious of these types of things now - since so many are a hoax.

Unfortunately for Gorton's the damage is done. Many more people will have heard about the pills and think it was true.
