The 'un-adoptable ' dog

Every time I get together with my brother and his family we talk about our pets. And, every time he and his wife complain about their dog. They adopted a dog and were told that the dog would be small as an adult. It promptly grew to be much bigger than expected. They hate the dog. When I ask them why they keep it, they actually told me that they have too much money invested in her!

Here's what they told me last time - they said that the dog would be put down if they brought it to the adoption center in town. The reason being that she is "skittish" and may be prone to agressive behavior.

So, they keep her.

They have a very young grandchild who is just now starting to walk, and they are ok with having this potentially agressive dog in their home. Oh, and their daughter is pregnant again - so that will make two youngsters.

I do not know what kind of dog it is - a mutt with black and white hair.

So, what can I say to convince them to put their grandchildren's safety first and to remove the dog from their home? I don't want to alienate them, but I am growing more concerned.

Any ideas?
