Sounds like fun! May try it, I did get an old oblong table off the curb about 30 years ago. Had it for years and some friend offered me $300.00 for it. She even knew I got it free! I sold it to her.
That was the only time I did it.

i found a chandlier once but dh refused to put it up, boo-hiss....

we live on a rather busy street and if we want to get rid of anything, we put it out and it's gone...

Never have liked garage sales..having one or going to one.

The only thing I've ever picked up at the curb was a box of old mason jars (a collection of mine now!)...I've seen other things, but was too embarrassed to stop and get them.

I am not a good trash-picker.

My very first apartment was furnished by the dumpster. We got our kitchen table, some chairs and a coffee table! I ended up selling all of the found items at a garage sale 10 years later! We don't have trash pick up in this area. Have to go to the dump but I still look!

we put out a 12 year old gas grill at the end of our driveway -- after a couple of hours -- put a sign "FREE" & it left within the hour....

A broken down lawnmover, an old grill? Shoot, I'd pick those up too if I had a handy man. Most people know they can be fixed and worth it for the cost of nothing. Too bad I'm not so enterprising.

When I was growing up, my dad and a couple other neighbors loved to find old refrigerators on the curb. They removed the inside from the casement and made barbeque grills from them because they were steel. Those things were biiiig grills and perfect for yard parties where you have to feed a lot of people.

We got a beautiful planter/outdoor bench that somebody else left out for garbage. My only problem was it was too big to put in the car so I had to push it home!

DH collects antique fans and has found 2 on the side of the road. He brought them home, rewired them, and they're just dandy!!! He also picks up bags of leaves for my compost piles, since we don't rake. Very convenient!

I put out 8 or 9 kid bikes/toys, some monkey grass, and a bird feeder out last week with a free sign. They were gone when I looked out again 30 minutes later. I always add the free sign because I know a lot of people won't stop otherwise.

I have 'curb shopped' on occasion. Off the top of my head-I have gotten-a 2 story cat condo (actually knocked on the door to make sure it was trash because it was so nice-she said her cats never used it and she was hoping someone would take it), a wicker hamper, a wicker table.nightstand, a mirror,.....Thats all I can think of right now. It makes me mad to see all of the nice stuff people throw away in our subdivision-bikes, desks, playhouses. Why don't they donate?????

Yep...have to admit that I have picked up "treasures" from curbs on several occasions. It's just amazing what people will throw out that other people can use. This morning, I put a perfectly good table and bookcase out by the curb. It was gone within 30 minutes.

It's the same here..no matter how bad the condition,it's gone overnight.
I've gotten a wing chair,a brass head and foot board,and countless other things that I can't think of at the moment.
I agree that a "Free"sign helps get rid of it a lot faster.

Of course I do. I found two really nice trellises...one metal
and extra heavy duty, and one wooden...nothing wrong with either. I will pick up flower pots too. Actually, I'm not shy about stopping and picking up anything that I see that I want.

I got a bunch of amaryllis bulbs, laying on top of a trash can. I figured they would be the old common red ones, but they were the extra big, fancy ones...various colors...red and white, pink and white, pink. The last thing I picked up was a small aquarium...got it mainly for the marbles that were in it and a bird feeder.

Another dumpster diver here. The asbsolute best is to cruise through a college town as classes are getting out in the Spring. The kids leave everything behind on the curb.

While I don't drive around and look for it, if I am driving by and see something cute sitting in some ones trash, I have been known to take it. :)

My DH and I deliver Meals on Wheels every Monday and it just happens to be our routes garbage day...I picked up a gorgeous ceramic bull dog (my DS has 2 live ones), touched up some spots and it's sitting in his yard...I'm always on the lookout...
One of my sons lives in a neighborhood that puts their garbage out Sunday nights and all the neighbors take bets as to when the 1st car/truck will be through to check out things...

I've picked up a few things over the years. One summer I picked up a box of Blue Mountain pottery figurines from a house where the woman passed away and the family was cleaning out the house. I sold one piece at my yard sale for $20.

Years ago I picked up long wooden shutters that I painted black and put on either side of my front door.

When I was a kid my brother brought home these 2 big fireplace andirons which I still use in my fireplace. They are beautiful but a little dusty right now. They've been used in my fireplace for over 45 years and they were quite old when my brother found them. I have to laugh because they came from my best friend's grandfather's house.

I have put a lot of items out to the curb because I know someone might want it or need it but only when the weather is good. I cleaned out my basement years ago and put out a nice baby pram. Whoever took that pram got a lot of use out of it because I would see it around for years. LOL Lots of mileage on the pram because my sister bought it used when my niece was born.

Every Wednesday night a man with a truck goes up and down the street picking up useable items and old computer monitors, etc.

We had been looking for the perfect 'bartending' chair for our recently made tiki bar but never seemed to find exactly what we were looking for. Leaving a small town after a weekend trip we spotted the perfect high-backed chair in a dumpster. It was like new and has worked out great for 3 years now.

People shouldnt be ashamed.I dont look at it as trash picking,,,its good ole re cycling..

Just this past weekend, I got two toddler beds that someone was getting rid of. My DIL wanted one for my Grandson before the new baby came.

Everytime we put something out it's gone by morning. I am hoping someone would take the stuff...hate to see it end up in the dumpster when it's still good stuff. I have a sweet little old oriental woman who lives about 6 houses down from me. She takes a walk every morning and comes home with something everyday. Not sure what she does with it all but she is never empty handed!

Yesterday I stopped for a display case with glass top, I'm going to use it as an outdoor seed incubator, because my last frost day is May 31.

My son picked up toys for kids and whatever. My DIL was complaining to her dad about it. Then he told her that was how he got things when she was little.

I think it is important to recycle things we don't want any more, so more power to y'all.

Me too!!!!! and when I clean stuff out, I "display" it at the curb....I've never had to throw anything in the garbage yet :^)

I have picked up stuff off the curb, as well as
put stuff out. My sister put out a Tiny Tot Turtle Sandbox, and it was gone within 5 minutes.
Don't thrown stuff in the trash, if someone can use it.
Put a free sign on it, and someone will come along and
take it off your hands.
