Wow I missed this breaking news. I never would have thought of her but I'm just glad they're finally making the movie.

Stephanie Plum 'One for the Money' filming in Pittsburgh

    Q

    Comments (24)
There are safe (and beautiful) areas of Trenton just as there are unsafe and blighted areas of Pittsburgh. The reason it was not filmed in New Jersey was due to money. NJ legislators were talking of revoking film and television tax credits just around the time Trenton was being considered as a location and thus the production company decided on Pittsburgh. Serious grumblings against NJ the tax credit had a lot to do with that most ridiculous TV show 'Jersey Shore' which angered many residents and politicians who felt it demeaned the state. The NJ Assembly was due to vote on reinstating the tax credits in early Jan 2012.

One For The Money - the movie

You know, it looks kinda cute from the trailer. After seeing Katherine Heigl in a string of really bad movies lately I was giving up on her, but I might try this one after all. One for the Money is the only Evanovich book I've read, and I didn't love it enough to follow up on the rest of the series. If the movie doesn't follow the book too closely, I won't be offended the way an ardent fan would. Rosefolly

    Most Beloved Fictional Characters

    Q

    Comments (85)
Some of my favorite characters have already been mentioned. I agree wholeheartedly with Rosefolly about Elnora Comstock from Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter. Aerin from The Hero and the Crown and Harry from The Blue Sword both by Robin McKinley are also favorite characters. My favorite Georgette Heyer characters are Leonie from These Old Shades and Sophy from The Grand Sophy. (Oh yes, the whole family from the Amelia Peabody series). For male characters, as a young girl, I wanted to be just like Tarzan, heck, I wanted to be Tarzan! Later, I just wanted to marry him and live in the jungle with him. (vbg) Other favorites include Jim Chee, Brother Cadfael, F'Nor and F'Lar from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonrider series. I also loved Aragorn, Legolas, Frodo and the other Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings by Tolkein. I'd better stop there, suffice it to say that I have several favorite characters from several favorite authors!

To Linelle's point, sometimes I find I like a series of shorter stories when travelling. Your party might all enjoy the Sherlock Holmes series, read by Rick Kishner (sp?). These are 45 minute short stories, very well read and, well, what more is there to say about AC Doyle's writing? You can find them HERE, just click on Itunes U under the twitter and fb icons. You can download them while on wifi before you leave instead of streaming. I agree with writersblock that Librivox can be amateurish as the readers are volunteers. But anything read by Karen Savage (you can search by reader) I would recommend. Not sure if she is British, her accent varies by author, but her rendition is perfect. Among her books are Jane Austen's, The Treasure Seekers, and The Secret Garden (see fave children's book thread). These may not be the best selections for your travel companions, so consider this a PSA. Also about librvox, you can search by "solo reader". I'm not a fan of the group read, or the dramatic read... bp you asked about how to listen to audio: If your car has bluetooth https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203412  If you want car speaker audio but don't have bluetooth http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/162020530489?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true  Be aware that streaming will use a lot of data. If you have space on your device, better to download them. Happy Travels!

I think Sandra Bullock would have been better than Heigl.

About a year ago, a few of us were running a thread about who would make good actresses for Stephanie Plum and Eve Dallas of the J D Robb novels.

Like Molly, right off the bat, I had Estelle Getty picked as the Grandma. That would have been perfect.

I like Mariska Hargitay for either Stephanie or Eve.
Heigl? Nope, not the right fit.

Sandra Bullock is too old and skinny for the part. I don't know why everyone thinks of her. I always picture Jennifer Esposito, but nit the glam Jennifer, the "Dont say a word" Jennifer. She Italian, born and raised in Staten Island. She can be really tough and really funny. I read Heigl is a producer if the film. She's all wrong for the role.

Oops, sorry about all those typos. I'm on my phone.

    Who is Stephanie Plum?

She's a character in a popular series of books.

"Sandra Bullock is too old and skinny for the part. I don't know why everyone thinks of her"

Wow -- sorry your honor. How dare we think of Sandra
    Bullock. LOL

I got a recommendation from a friend for these books and then I read that Katherien Heigl (sp?) would be playing the lead character - YUK! I do not like her - she is "all about herself"..

I always picture Debi Mazar when I'm reading the books. Sandra Bullock would be my 2nd choice. I don't see Stephanie Plum as being "thick". I think of her as tall and average.

I don't know who Katherine Heigl is.

    Linda

I just looked up Heigl. NO WAY is she Stephanie Plum. For those that asked the books are written by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a bounty hunter and is very funny. Her grandma is a hoot. The series starts with "One For the Money".

When I picture SP, I picture pretty, not heavy, but could be in later years. She obviously isn't too hard to look at or the guys wouldn't all be falling all over her. And spunky and funny. Which Heigl is. I saw her about a year ago on Martha and she was an absolute riot and very charming. I think she'll be good. Dye her hair darker and boom- Stephanie Plum. I say give her a chance. And I too want to know who will play the guys.

Heigl is on Grey's Anatomy. Or was, anyway. I don't watch it.

Good Lord-- I didn't think I was going to offend anyone.

She's Italian/Hungarian, mid 30's, hates to excersise, drinks beer, eats all things fried, sometimes only Tasty Kakes, peanut butter and olive sandwichs, and you have to fight her for pastries.
I don't picture skinny, mid 40's, Sandra Bullock. So sue me.

I love the books!! But i agree, HEigl is not Stephanie. Well maybe like Flamingo says... if she dyes her hair??? Yes, would is playing Ranger and Joe????

No, I don't think she is Stephanie Plum at all.

Let's choose who WE'D like to play Ranger and Joe.
    Tom Selleck for Joe, maybe?
I also think Pierce Brosnan is sooo sexy.
I loved Jimmy Smits in Cane. He was very cool.
(Now there's a show that should never have been cancelled.)

We all do it, picture someone when we read a book so here's what I pictured when I started reading the first one and all through to 15.
    Debi Mazar as Stephanie
    Kyle Chandler as Joe
Michael Easton as Ranger (One life to live)
    Betty White as Grandma Mazur
    Queen Latifa as Lulu

Yep, Queen Latifah as Lulu!! I don't know who Kyle CHandler and Michael Easton are.

Well...I don't know Stephanie Plum...but they sure sound like a great read!! I'll be sure to put them on my next round of reads!!

I know who I want for Roark...but I still haven't found an Eve...actually a young Debbie Allen woulda been my first choice but she's too old to play Eve Dallas...I sure wish someone would make some movies of the In Death series...

nor do I picture Angelina Jolie as Kay Scarpetta...she's too young!!

Katherine Heigl has been in the rag trades as a brunette lately...so she must be gearing up for the roll!! I stood about three feet from her last September while playing an extra in the movie "Life As We Know It" which comes out December, 2010...I can tell you she is the utmost professional when it comes to making a movie...and Josh Duhamel who's also in the movie is sure pleasing on the eyes!!

Stephanie - Its a toss up for me. I picture someone that looks more like Jennifer Esposito(with all the glam washed off) who is Italian, or Drew Barrymore who is in her early 30's and part Hungarian.
I always saw Estelle Getty as grandma Mazur - I can see Betty White.
Morrelli - someone like McSteamy from Greys Anatomy, I like Josh Duhamel a LOT too (yum)
I see Ranger built like The Rock, but have a hard time seeing The Rock because he's always silly, not steamy and sultry. Maybe Vin Diesel
    Connie - Debie Mazar
Lulu - Queen Latifa or Monique
    Vinnie - Steve Buscemi
I forget her name, the nemesis, I see as Jamie Gertz

Not sure about Mooner or Sally Sweet (two of my favorite characters)

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm not good at knowing actor's names so I can't list people but I think Drew Barrymore would make a great Stephanie Plum.

I picture Stephanie as a tomgirl. She isn't thin because she eats a lot of junk but she is fit. Nothing delicate about her. A pretty girl who doesn't know it. She's a dishwater blond in the books.

Morelli could be played by a younger Italian mobster actor. He's a bad boy with attitude in a cop's uniform.. Oh I know. How about Adrian Grenier?

Tom Selleck? No way. He's old enough to be her dad. These are early 30 somethings in the book.

They just better not mess up the casting of Ranger.

I too think Tom Selleck would be too old for her, but I honestly can't think of any young hot actors.

How about Maxim on Dancing with the Stars?? He's a Hottie!!
    LOL

Liz...who are you picturing for Roark? That's another tough one.

Jasdip...Branscomb Richmond...google him and you'll see why...he has long hair...no blue eyes but that can be fixed with contacts and I'm sure he could muster up an Irish voice..or

Jimmy Smits...he'd have to grow his hair out...but both would fit the role...

Now that someone mentioned Marsha Hartigay as Eve...she'd be a great fit too...I just love her on SVU...

I can't wait to pick up the Stephanie Plum books my next trip to the library...I'm reading Iris Johansen's Eve Duncan series...I love it when the writers use the same charcter over and over...I really feel like you get to know them...one of the reasons I love Sue Grafton, JA Jance, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, JA Konrath...

I just finished a Patterson book yesterday with the character Michael Bennett...I'm really liking him!!

I think Eve and Roark need to have a baby...she'd freak and Roark would be the ultimate Daddy!!

    LOL Liz!!!
Eve, being a MOTHER??? OMG! You're too funny.

I suggested Mariska Hargitay, and she'd be perfect!
I love Jimmy Smits. He's Hot!

Like you, I like a regular character in books.
You'll love Stephanie Plum. She's always getting in trouble, and she's funny as heck. The books are burst-out-laughing.

Add Stuart Woods to the mix of regular character series.

I'm going to really miss Robert Parker....loved him.

I have always had this picture of Stephanie in my head-sort of like a younger, darker, Italian version of Kinsey Milhone.

Heigl would not be my first choice-Maybe if her hair was dyed? I had thought of her, but I think Sandra Bullock is too old now. Sandra is good at physical comedy and Stephanie is ALWAYS getting herself into some strange situation!! Or maybe Jamie-Lynn Siegler with shorter hair?

I wouldn't put Debi Mazar as Stephanie-but lord she would be great as someone in that movie!!! And how about Morelli's grandmother that gives Stephanie the "eye"?

I absolutely love the Stephanie Plum series. The newest book comes out in June and I cannot wait. It is hard for me to say who I picture as some of the characters when I read the books. Sometimes I picture someone but can't think of an actor or actress to fit the part. I have always pictured The Rock as Ranger. Yes, he has been in silly movies but I picture him more like the part he placed in the movie Walking Tall. Can't wait to see how the movie casting shakes out! :)

Oh that's right, I haven't seen Walking Tall, bet that would change my mind.

    Stephanie-I always pictured Sandra.
Gran-Olympia Dukakis or Shirley MacLaine (the other could be Joe's gramma)
Vinnie-Danny Devito LOL (remember the duck)
    Joe-Mark Consuelos
    Ranger-The Rock
Lula-Queen Latifa, Sherry from the View?
    Connie-
Stephanie's mom whose always crosssing herself-Rhea Perlman?

I'm also a huge fan of these books....I think Naveen Andrews (Sayid on LOST) would make a great Ranger!!

    Good choices Dani!

I agree, Heigl for Stephanie Plum just doesn't fit, IMO. I'm no good with current actor names, and while I love Selick and Sandra, they are too old. I've read and enjoyed all the Plum books and all the characters are ethnic and I would love to see it stay that way. I also like Queen Latifa but I just can't quite see her as Lulu. Kim Okla had a great idea, I think, Sherry from the View. Now her I can see in stilettos, leopard print tube top and tight skirt running out of an apartment because some ancient old nude man is flashing his junk at her.

    Bahahahahahaha @ Alexis!!!!

Heigl is just too darn annoying for me. Boo hoo

I forgot, someone, don't remember her alluded to Angelina playing Kay Scarpetta. Please say it isn't so. Did I miss something did they make or are making a movie. She just would not fit. I love that character and while I see Scarpetta as an attractive 40 something woman, I don't see her as this voluptuous over the top sexy woman. She might work for those who have never read any or the Scarpetta novels but not for anyone that has read all (or any) of them and gotten to know Kay's character.

Does anyone remember the one episode of Two and a Half Men, where Allan and his soon to be exwife Candy are in bed together and she gets a phone call from her manager telling her she got the part as the forensic investicator on some show? Flash forward to where Allan and Charlie are watching her (candy) on TV in the forensic show leaning over a dead body flashing her more than ample cleavage up to the camera... That is what I see when I picture Angelina as Kay Scarpetta.

I picture that "Nicey"? gal from RENO 911 for Lula too, but Queen Latifa would be good if she truly dressed like Lula!

    LOL!

alexis-I agree 100%! Kay Scarpetta is an attractive well put together woman, but not sexy and voluptuous!! I picture Jolie wearing tight leopard pants to the morgue, not scrubs! I think Angelina would be a horrible choice for anyone that "knows" Kay. But if you want to attract movie goers-I guess angelina will do that!

I came here to say I think Hillary Swank would make an excellent Kinsey Milhone (sue graftons' character!) She's cute in a no-nonsense practical kind of way, could be tough when she needs to be and I picture the same body type-although Hillary may be too tall and maybe a bit younger? I think Hillary is a great actress!

I know this topic is a few days old, but it's decided for me.

Maxim from Dancing with the Stars! Yep, he's my hottie of choice for Ranger.

    Lulu- Wanda Sykes
Stephanie Plum- Debbie Mazur would be great
    Joe Morelli- Jeffrey Dean Morgan
    Grandma Mazur- Ellen Albertini
    Ranger- The Rock

In the books Stephanie Plum is 5'7" tall and weighs between 125 and 127. She wears a 34B bra. She is in her "late 20s", with no magic number ever being stated.

125 lbs. for 5'7" is not thick; I'm 5'1" and would give my eye teeth to weigh only 125! She also talks about her wonderful metabolism; (which she knows will play out once she's older) she runs; and she's very active. Both her Grandmother and Mother are thin, small women with large appetites.

I think she is written for and the story is aimed at the women in that age bracket who, even though they are thin, see themselves as always "too heavy."

As for the actress, I don't think I've ever seen her, but when an actress takes on a role, she's not portraying "herself"; she's portraying the character. Is Heidi a good actress? If she is, she could be a "real" angel and portray a troll, and/or vice versa.

When the books first came out, I thought Sandra Bullock would be the perfect "Stephanie." However, as talented and beautiful as she is, she appears too "mature" to be a believable Steph; and too young to portray her mother.

Forgive the typos; I'm in the midst of rearranging the living room.

I have to say something in Katherine Heigl's defense. She and her mother have set up an animal rescue organization in memory of her late brother. The website is linked below.

She wouldn't have been my pick for Stephanie Plum either, but I think she's a decent actress and might be able to pull it off.

Stephanie a "dishwater blond," Wildchild? If so, I must have missed something. I've been picturing her with brown hair.

It's funny . . . when reading Grandma's dialog, I always heard Estelle Getty's voice in my head.

Angelina bought the rights to 6 of Patricia Cornwell's books a year or so ago...then I read in one of the rag trades that she's actually gonna play Kay Scarpetta...She is sooo not Kay Scarpetta...

I can't wait to send hubster to the Library...I went on line and reserved a bunch of Plum books and he'll go pick them up for me since I'm not my usual fast walkin self!

I'll reserve my comments for Heigl playing Plum till I read some of the books...

I would love to see Grafton's book made into some movies...I love Kinsey and I want to see her boat/apartment come to life! I picture Peter Falk playing her landlord! He plays a good ole man! I agree that Hillary Swank would make a great Kinsey!

ohhh, I just thought of someone.
I don't know who The Rock is, never heard of him nor seen him.
However, Shamar Moore of Criminal Minds would also fit the bill! Gorgeous, and sensitive.

I think Katherine will be good.

I watched the Hallmark move Saturday, Healing Hands. Eddie Cibrian from CSI Miami was in it. I thought he would make a perfect Joe Morelli.

I can't wait to meet Bob, the dog.

Ok!! Are they making a movie? I hope it is good! I was so disappointed when the "Womens Murder Club" was made into a series....

I found this pic.... all my choices

    Here is a link that might be useful: {{!gwi}}

I was just watching Flash Forward, and it occurred to me that Joseph Fiennes (who plays Mark) would be an excellent Joe Morelli.

I've seen lots of pics of Katherine on the net sporting her new dark hair. But I've never seen it mentioned that she dyed her hair for the movie.

I'm not doubting Kim (the OP) at all, I just haven't seen it anywhere.

If you always read the Stephanie Plum books, you need to listen to one of the book at least once. I get them from the library. The reader does just an absolutely fantastic job - I can just picture the characters, especially Stephanie, Gramma, & Lulu. Can't wait for the next book & also the movie! If you decide to listen to a book, get one of the later books on CD or tape, if you can. The reader that started the series, is not the one that is reading them now. I like this last reader best.

Don't know Stephanie Plum...never read the series but I love Katherine Heigl and am sure you'll be pleasantly surprised if you keep an open mind.

this article says Heigl replaced Reese Witherspoon and will start once the screenplay is written...
