I had this once about two days ago, but I blame GW for my computer shutting down last night. I had KT on the screen reading a thread and left it for an hour. When I came back there were problems which needed a reboot. Several warnings appeared on the screen. Maybe , maybe not related.

they had asked that you get a screenshot of the page where that is happening so they can see the ads on it and what might be causing it and mail it to Tamara, she put her contact info on that other thread and the one over at CH forum also.
To get a screenshot just hit the print screen button on your keyboard that copies it then go to your email open a new email and right click and hit paste it should put the screen shot there.
there are also some very easy to use free screenshot programs around should anyone need it.

Did you go to the top and click that torn piece of paper as Gazania suggested? That fixed it for me, or maybe GW fixed it. Not sure, but everything is ok now.

Got a reply from GW, which was to click on the torn paper icon to the right in the address bar at the top of the page, just as gazania said. (Thanks, gazania, I'd been doing this since you wrote it.) However, that should have been a temporary fix because it has to do with folks who are running older browsers. Shouldn't that be considered temp, since no real fix has been done.

I don't usually vent, but GW is a pain in the neck. Sorry but it's been a long week.

pekemom, this is at the top of the page in the address bar of your computer, showing the http:// addy for where you are. Just to the right in that same bar. I'm in Internet Explorer and there is a looking glass, downward arrow, torn paper, curved arrow, and an X. When you first come into KT, click on that paper until it turns a deep blue in color. My guess is this will need to be done whenever we come online at KT.

Is there a virus or any other problem connected with what's going on? I don't know. Have run a full scan for viruses and malware every day this week and nothing has shown up, so I hope all is okay that way. The thing is that such things are not happening on any other site I've been on.

I get that script message a few times a week but not on GW. I just click "stop script and continue" I don't know if that is the proper thing to do but it works for me.

Susie 53 AT top or your page you have the back arrow button and the forward button. Then the next long grey box is your address bar. After the words you have a magnifying glass and then a small upside down triangle. Next is a blue thing that looks like a torn sheet of paper. Put your cursor on it but don't click it right away and read what it says and then left click it and it should take care of the problem it worked for me. Good Luck!

I have two computers. The one in the office does the same "script" running. One in living room is not an issue. Yesterday I dug around and shut off all running scripts through the Control Panel on PC. Tis fine so far. Have no clue if I messed up needed scripts or not.

I don't think this is unique to GW. Many sites and software are dumping information on us. Google is messing with us too.

It started here big time last night, and is here today. It's the first time I've had it and it's
only on GW. Very annoying.

I am having so much trouble with it, even on Firefox, that it was throwing me out and over to my IE window. I give up, I can't have scripts, especially unknown ones, running on my business computer so I just won't be here very often.

I have Firefox and there is no magnifying glass to click on. The script thing won't let me click on anything. Someone should tell Tamara about this problem . I won't be coming here either till it's fixed. Too annoying. Doesn't happen anywhere else. Maybe it has to go with the Google popups everywhere in the middles of the posts.

Ok, I'll tell you what they told me to do and it worked.. Up at the top where it has your web site listed is (mine is on the left side at the top). There is a looking glass, a piece of paper looking thing, a circle and an x. Click on the paper looking thing. It will turn blue and this stops the problem. I did it and it hasn't happened again.

I have had no problems with it.

Susie..I have none of things you mention . I have a star, a down arrow and a curved arrow on the right. I have no looking glass, piece of paper, circle or X. This just started here last night., not when others were first complaining.

Susie, there isn't a torn paper looking icon on my screen, it may be that I use Firefox to block all the ads and pop-ups. I see it on IE but am not willing to tolerate all the pop-ups that come with it on GW.

The fixes above refer only to the IE browser. Many people don't realize that there are many other browsers out there, and they don't look alike.

I use Firefox, and just started getting the script message box when I click on a thread title(to bring up the messages). All I have to do is click on the button to stop the script, and the page with the thread's messages display.

I have noticed that this all started about when this Google ad that is imbedded in the list of Thread titles showed up.
I have a feeling that there is code there that is running.

Interesting, I tried reading this forum with IE, FireFox and Chrome browsers.
The only browser that does not have this problem is Chrome (owned by Google).

I agree with Monica..it all started with the imbedded Google ad. I'm outta here till they fix it. It's on many other GW forums as well. Tamara..HELP!

I just started having this problem today. What I thought I'd try is going in tools then options then clicking on content and disabling javascript and now things work as they should no right clicking or anything else. Sorry forgot to mention I am using Firefox and searching with Google. Hope this helps

I just started getting the script error this morning, very annoying. It actually froze my screen and I had to exit FF and come back, then got the script error again.

I'm using Firefox, not IE.

Hi, I've read a number of GW forums today and see similar complaints.

Also using FF. Didn't have a problem with the script error until this morning. FF updated last night. I'm now using Safari and not getting a script error.

I use AdBlock Plus on FF and noticed a blank space midway through the page a few days ago. There's where the Google ad is now appearing on Safari. Like I said, I didn't start having a problem until FF updated.

I could not believe my eyes when I signed on here today! Ads everywhere, script warnings, it is as if they are trying to destroy this forum. What a mess! I use Opera or Firefox, they are both giving me the script error. I guess they want everyone to abandon these boards because most people won't put up with it. And I won't give Google one more piece of information, I don't trust them.

Yes, disabling java scripting in your browser does clear up the problem, and all the ads are gone - why, because they are written in Java script.
So, the Google ad imbedded in the thread list must have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
And, knowing Google.

I can understand Garden web needing some advertising, but more advertising just breaks their product - they should have just tried raising their ad rates.

Well the good news is Google is paying ivillage to advertise.

The bad news is there isn't anyone left to read them. :(

I have the ad-blocker, so I don't see the ad, just the gap.

However, the slow script thing is highly annoying.

GW doesn't always respond to our weekend complaints until the workday week, in my experience, but I'm hoping they'll fix things in the next day or two.

I have no problem on my desktop but I get the script error, etc on my laptop. IN fact on my laptop I can't get into any forum -- it just hangs and hangs then the script error shows up. The only way I can get out is to hit ctrl-alt-del and close down everything.

It's making me nuts so until it's resolved I won't be here much. My desktop is a piece of junk with its own problems, so I don't use it much.

Fingers are crossed that I got it fixed. For the Firefox users: I loaded the Yes Script add-on and it is working (so far). Once you have it downloaded you need to activate it:
Click VIEW~TOOLBAR~CUSTOMIZE
Find the YesScript Icon and drag it to the top of you page. I put it next to the "HELP" on my toolbar.
Click on it and it will turn dark showing that it is engaged.

Then I put http://ths.gardenweb.com in the place for preferences of where java script may not be run, quit Firefox and restarted it.

That worked.

Mine works fine now with the addblock plus added to FF. There are spaces where the Google ads were along with the posts. I think that was the culprit.

for those with adblock plus on your firefox if you have not added the easylist subscription to your adblock you NEED to do that it has the list of all the known ads to block for those that have it and are having issues be sure you update your easylist. Here is where you get easylist it only takes one click to add it on.

I use Firefox and AdBlock and I'm getting the pop up script box all over the place, too. Turned off java script, but then I couldn't post any replies. And I have to turn it back on to check my mail, FB, etc.
Not worth it. This place is dying a slow death. Majority of the forums haven't had new posts for days, weeks or months.

There's no space here now. Is it all fixed?

I haven't had any problems reading, posting at all. I do use Chrome and it works great. I haven't bothered, doing any of the fixes that were suggested either, thought I'd better leave well enough alone.

I don't know if I should do any of the suggestions or not, just to be on the safe side.

They just moved the GoogleAds to the bottom right side.
If you don't see it it's because you have adblock.
If Chrome is working for you don't do anything.
Seemed to be a Firefox thing..

I just noticed that the G W team has put up a red notice at the top of the main pages about this problem. If you have it minimized for the notices just open that area to see it.

I use Firefox v 8.0. Have not gotten any new updates.

I also have AdBlock Plus Easy List, and have had them "for ever."

I have had none of the current problems.

So I wonder if those Firefox users who are having problems have updated from v 8.0, if there is any connection?

Otherwise, why haven't I had problems?

You know that could be the problem..
I didn't notice that I was on auto update and am now running v 11.0.
But that wouldn't explain the people on IE that where also having problems.
It's a conspiracy for alot of techs to make money fixing all
our computer glitches :)

I have FF 11.0 and have the problem, but opening each post in a new tab/window is working fine until they get a real fix for it.

Adding...I used the YesScript as suggested in other threads, and it stopped the script problem. Very easy to do.
