Could I give this cat a better life?
Comments (24)Thanks for your kindess and good wishes. The new cat is doing great- she is still very loving and friendly. At the shelter she wouldn't hide but didn't want anyone coming near her (she would sit and glare at you with her piercing green eyes) She just always had a p*ssed off expression on her face. She always appeared to be miserable like she hated life. While she is probably bored left alone in my spare room while everyone is at work, she perks up when I get home. Last night I had to sit in one spot for almost 2 hours because she curled up on my lap (after loving all over me and purring) and fell asleep and i didn't want to disturb her. She really is an undercover sweetheart. I am so thankful I was drawn to her (for whatever strange reason) because her behavior at the shelter would probably have prohibited her from being adopted and someone finding out what a sweet cat she really is. Now I'm just hoping that she is eventually ok with my other cats. thanks again for your support!...See MoreHow do I train this cat?
Comments (20)I was reading this laughing and thinking, 'Hmmm...it sounds like my Siamese kitty (who's now 15) when he was a kitten!". Siamese love vertical areas and CLIMBING and perching up high. If you do not provide something for them to climb, they will improvise. They can be very stubborn and prefer to dominate. I love Siamese cats...because I like the challenge. When he was a kitten, he would actually leap onto the top of the door. Yes - the door. Not a shelf...the top of a door..that 2 inch wide space and balance there, then, leap on me when I walked by. Also, he fell out of two different second floor windows via the screen. Once was leaping at a bird on the tree through the window, the other time...who knows? The squirt bottle thing never worked on my Siamese - Saki. It became a game to him where he would be naughty because he knew I would squirt him so he could run through the house playing 'chase me, chase me'. Obviously, I had to come up with another strategy. This was not working! The time-out thing seemed to work the best. He hated being seperated from me and would howl behind closed doors. Some of the behavior you describe is just 'Siamese Kitten' and he'll grow out of it. But, you do need to establish that you are the one in charge. Okay this will sound weird, but, when he uses you as a human scratching post, try grabbing him by the scruff (the mamma-cat way) to immobolize him, look him in the face and make a very loud angry cat sound (RRRREOW!) with hissing. I know...it sounds weird and you don't want to be on YouTube doing this, but sometimes, if you 'speak their language' - they get it. For whatever it's worth, they do calm down eventually and you'll find you miss the crazy Siamese antics....See MoreNeed help with my 'wild, crazy' cat.....
Comments (7)I so wish I could have taken in her brother but at this time, it's financially impossible as much as I hate to say it.....Boy, if I had the means, I'd have a shelter for all these homeless fur babies..... But, I have started, when I'm holding her or petting her, I make sure I call her good little girl, or good baby and put her down before she gets antsy and then give her a treat, which she loves....I'm hoping she will associate the "good" with the treat....And I've also noticed, if she starts to bite, now if I say, "no bite", she'll stop and then of course, It's a pat and good kitty.....One way or another, we'll do this, lol.....But, I'm happy to say, no new scratches or bites in the last 2 days, lol.........See MoreAny older singles?
Comments (38)Well.... its Saturday night and I must be desperate. I searched through all the popular matchmaking websites with no luck... and this is my last stop of the evening. Now... the real truth... it is Saturday night and I am cooking and listening to Prairie Home Companion on the radio. I started my day catching up on paperwork... then fixed a broken window... then went to a couple estate sales to see if I could buy some better trash than the trash I already have... then went for a 12 mile bike ride... stopped and fondled new air nailers at Lowe's... then grocery shopped. I will have some wine out on the porch as the sun sets... then catch up on some reading and watch Iron Chef... and then zonk out in a luxurious queen size waterbed. All these things represent the absolute freedom of being single and alone. There comes a time when you are older and dating just seems to be a bother. When you come down to it, dating really is a lot of trouble, ya know. But... then... there is always the chance that you will be swept off your feet by a new acquaintance... and suddenly... the concept of suffering through being pleasant for an evening and displaying good manners will not seem to be so remote. What a profound thought as I sit here and type this in my underwear....See Moremunkos
