Seperate them.I know it sounds simple,but until they get to know each other what else can you do?

I actually had to find a kitten we adopted a new home once because it got so bad with the kitten and my older cat.My older cat even started hissing at my husband and I and wouldnt come out from hiding.
I was told that over time it would get better,but after 3 months it did not,and we felt it wasnt fair to either cat,so we gave the kitten to my husband's friend.
They love the kitten alot so i do not feel bad about it.

Kittens can be pests to older cats who just want to sleep and be left alone.

I have a six month old kitten who likes to play with the older cats who aren't used to it.. But for the most part they are tolerant. The kitten doesn't ever bother the old guy, but likes the one fat stray who no one else likes and she plays with him.

How long have you had the kitten? Did you give them time to adjust??

My cat absolutely hated my kitten. She hated my roommates two cats, too. It took her months to get adjusted to the first cat that came in, she hated him for the longest time. I was afraid she'd hurt the kitten, because she can be really mean when she wants to be.

Once my kittens cold cleared up, I let her out of her room for supervised romps around the house. This way she was so fascinated with the house, that she kind of ignored the other cat. And occasionally I'd let the big cat into the kittens room, and she would hide but there were so many new toys she'd never seen before, she couldnt resist coming around to take a look.

Eventually I realised they were getting along better when the kitten would howl in her room and my cat would go stand outside the door looking so so worried, and she'd howl too. I think it almost helped having the kitten be a howler and whiney little thing, my cats motherly instincts took over her stuck up snooty attitude. Now they're inseperable. The sleep together, eat together, play together. Get into trouble together. And the kitten is finally big enough to take the cat down when they wrestle.

Wow, your older cat isn't smacking the kitten?? Or is he and the baby just not care?? That's such a hard situation because you kind of let time work, and then on the other hand they are your babies and I know you don't want to ever see them fighting. When we got our baby persian, we had 3 older cats. One being 16 years old (scottish fold). Well Beets (the oldest one) was the one Sassy (the persians name, we named her that because of how she acted!!) always wanted to play with!! Well a couple times, okay maybe a few times Beets gave her a couple good wacks and Sassy finally just stopped. Kind of, Sassy still is spunky alot of the time but still to this day Beets if she gets tired of something will turn around, smack her, and run away. Most of the time Sassy will chase after her but then leave her alone. I think its something with Beets's hair (she is a white long haired scottish fold) because its long Sassy likes to bite it!! lol :-) What we bought that they all really seemed to LOVE is one of those cat condo's. Its got 3 different levels for them to play, scratch, jump, and climb on. They all love it even Beets. Beets just sleeps on the bottom level and Sassy usually spazzes up on the roof of it!! lol They are our sweetheart!!

I guess I really didn't help you very much but I just wanted to share my stories with you.

We have had Lilly our kitten since the middle of October. She was a recue kitten and when I got her she was way to young to be without her mom so we bottle fed her for the first 2 weeks we had her. Jake our male will be 7 this summer and like I said has no patience with her. She runs up to him and tackles him and for the most part he just takes it but after a while she tests his patients and he starts to get grumpy with her. He growls, hisses and runs from her. They are not allowed in the house together during the day while we're away. It makes me too nervous. At night when we're both home we let Jake in, he sleeps in side at night but prefers to be outside during the day and Lilly will be an indoor cat so it's important that they get along. We supervise their play time to insure it doesn't get out of hand and if she starts to get really obnoxious I put her in her kennel until she settles down.
I feel really bad doing that to her though because I have been gone all day and don't want to be the "bad guy" with her when I am home with her. She has a ton of toys and play things but to her Jake is more fun.
I am just at the end of my rope. I love them both and I am hoping that when she is old enough to be fixed it will help mello her and she will leave him alone.

It is not very nice to leave an old cat with a kitten. They often do not like it. Best to separate the old cat to live her remaining years in peace.
