Help finding pics of sink and cooktop on one wall with no windows

Guys, I need help and I wouldn't bother you, expect I've tried searching and looking using every combination of words I can think of. No luck at all, I don't really know what to even call it.

We're going to have to put our sink and cooktop along the back wall of the kitchen, and it has no windows. I'm at a total loss trying to picture that.

I know I want white framed cabinets with white marble/quartzite counter tops.

But would you run the bottom of all the cabinets the same height above the counter?

Would you go higher over the sink and higher over the cooktop so the under the cabinet SS hood are both the same/matching?

What I have in my mind - left to right -

counter - dishwasher - sink - counter - cooktop - counter

If any of you guys have seen pictures of anything looking like this, please let me know.

I'm drawing a total mind blank on it.

It sounds like you just described my kitchen.

I will post pics, but please keep in mind it is a work in progress. We are still mid reno and have a few weeks left - but this should give you an idea of what it will look like.

I should also mention that I have a fairly large kitchen which makes that wall less choppy.

Well, I'm a bit late to this party, but I'll add on for future reference. I'd have the countertop high enough to act as both the countertop and the window sill. That would make the countertop butt right into the bottom rail on the lower sash. You can leave your existing windowsill and set the countertop on top of it, or you can remove it. Your choice. Here are two photos that I have that sort of describe my meaning. They're not of a countertop, but of an extended windowsill, about 10" deep. If you need the sinks higher, then sure, what Stacey and Cinnamon recommended, use a low-profile drop-in sink, or a low-profile pedestal top to give you a few more inches of elevation. Pinch each sink in towards the centerline of the wall so they are slightly in front of the window trim, that'll allow sufficient headroom. A curtain over the window, and then hanging mirrors as needed. Don't totally cover up access to the window. If you're in a heating climate, the dead air space with no air circulation might result in excess condensation on the window in wintertime. And if you raise the countertop up to the elevations we're recommending, it looks like we'll be impinging on the wall outlet to the left of the window. That's fairly easy to move. A couple more thoughts.. If you use cap type moldings, would ou use it for all four sides of the window? That would make sense but I am not sure if fireclay makes capped corner pieces. Have you thought about using a smaller section of your countertop material for the windowsill? You mentioned a new cabinetry enclosure for the new fridge. Will it have crown molding on the side and front. The side molding on the window side will have to line and match the molding on top of your existing cabinetry to the left of the window. The gap between your window and the molding will have to be the same on both sides I think. I like the contrast between the painted wall and the moldings and the window trim. Ne thought is to just do a 4 or 5 in baseboard type short backsplash that will die into the window trim and use a window sill of the same material as the countertop. On the right, the short backsplash would die into the fridge cabinet and the top of the fridge cabinet with with similar molding will tipoff the area nicely. Is there enough room in your island to install your wall oven below the counter off to the side of the cooktop? That is what we did and I am really enjoying the functionality. I don't think it is too low. We have a GE Monogram and it has the nice slide out racks. No problems so far. I also have an Advantium in a tall stack with my pantry. It is not split by the counter like you are considering though. Problem is, I feel like we barely have enough pantry space. With a full-size oven I don't think it would be enough for us. Do you have other pantry storage somewhere else as well? If so, it will probably work out fine having the oven there. Note that our pantry is the area below the Advantium. The cabinets above are for baking pans and stuff. The pull-out to the left of the tall stack is also pantry space. I keep all of my baking stuff in there. I'm sorry my photos are so large. I keep trying to size them smaller, but they keep posting huge. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Double hung means there are upper and lower sash and both can move. Single hung, ditto, except the upper sash is immobile. Two windows side by side is referred to as paired or coupled. The act of pairing (or tripling, etc.) windows by adding a molding (mullion strip) is called mulling; for instance a pair of mulled double hung windows, or a triple mulled casement arrangement, and so on. Mulled windows fit in a single rough opening in the framing. When another stud or studs separates the windows, they are referred to as grouped. Manufacturers will mull windows up to a certain size at the factory, but really large units are assembled on site. Thank you! that was the other thing I was having a hard time visualizing - drawers in the base cabinets

I'm planning on an oversized island and the oven built in the back side of that.
The frig, pantry will have to go on the wall to the left of the island.

Looks like you guys are going to have a beautiful kitchen.

In case you can't tell, the cab above the sink is the same height as the rest of the cabs (so the hood can still remain a focal point, and it keeps a sense of continuity). The cabinet, however, is very shallow. You can kind of see that in the 1st picture. I intend to use it for shot glasses and other smaller type items.

Thanks...I can't wait for the "final product". Still soooo much to be done. sigh.

I know you must be excited, I would be too! It's going to be beautiful and new!

I stayed up way too late last night searching the internet, but I think I sorta figured out what I want to do.

I'm going to try and center the sink and cooktop/hood, equal distance along that wall. Raise the cabinets above them both, equal again. Then bring the tile backsplash up behind both of them.

Left to right again, the uppers would be down, up higher over the sink, down, up higher over the cooktop, down.

I anyone has a picture of something like that, please let me know.

What did you do? a backsplash like behind a cooktop??

Any window on this side of the house would have faced another building! :)

I still haven't posted finished pics yet, pending decorating... which is going to take me until well after ski season...

You say you are going to position your sink and stove equidistant along the wall. You don't say how long your wall is - but just be careful that, if your stove is at the end of counter run, you have enough landing/safe space at the end. Maybe a minimum of 18"-24".

hi corrie,

i've been looking awhile for you... harder than it sounds, isn't it?!

usually the type/brand of hood dictates how high above the cooktop it should be. will you have a microwave combination hood or just a hood under a cabinet? or a chimney style like marcydc's?

with the sink, it's totally up to you... you can have cabinets or shelves, or you can elect to have no cabinet... even with a fancy backsplash up to the ceiling.

scottie lee's kitchen is exactly what I was trying to picture in my old head. Even the small top row of cabinets to the ceiling. See how the bottom of the hood and the cabinet over the sink are the same level? That's what I was having a hard time seeing. I couldn't even decide on a SS hood, or a white painted wood hood. Even the white marble countertops. Perfect, thank you so much!
