In this economy I think many folks will be staying home more and will look to ways to save on food. Vegetable plantings is a great way to go. I learned many of my techniques simply watching shows like Gardening Naturally (thanks for helping me recall the name of that show Marg). In that show I learned more about proper composting, the use of manure, seaweed of all things, and other stuff. Sure it certainly may not appeal to all audience, but it was very imformative. Too bad we no longer have such shows. The new Victory Garden - well it's simply rehashed segments with a new host - Jamie Durie, a well known garden designer/landscaper from Australia. The show focuses mainly on designing on a grand scale - although it does emphasis green techniques, water conservation, etc.. It does have a small segment with Kip as the actual gardener and Chef Michel cooking the organic way. However it just doesn't have that 'Organic feel' to it. It seemed too Hollywood or too New Age. In my opinion -- good eye candy, not much on substance. There is good show on PBS - called Cultivating Life. While it is short, it does have everything, from building trellis, to planting, to cooking. It's good enough - although not close enough to the shows of the past. I've pretty much given up on watching shows on TV. There's hope however, and it exist online. Look at such places such as Youtube and someone is most certainly going to upload a specific gardening technique. Ianna

Natal, small world! Did you know that "Breaking Bad" films some it's episodes right across the street from us? I know that they filmed quite a bit for this season nearby. They shot a couple of their "shoot out" scenes for this season in the road near my house. They posted notices on our mailboxes ahead of time to warn us, so that we wouldn't all freak out when we heard gun shots (LOL!). We didn't but our dogs did! I'd walk the dogs in the mornings and the actors would be wandering up and down my little street/road talking on their cell phones. The main road would be lined up in both directions with many MANY cars, trucks and big white vans hauling props and whatever. We don't live in Albuquerque where they shoot their city and city house scenes, but north of there in the mountains. They use our little local library just down the road from us to park the actor's private trailers and the caterer's trailers while they shoot. I am constantly amazed at how many people, trucks, props and miles of wire/lines they need every day that they film! I don't watch the series myself, but if you see scenes this season with a lovely, LARGE adobe hacienda, an old windmill, (gorgeous) pool scenes with several guest houses in the foreground and mountains and mesas in the (close) background, a cool small log cabin guest house, or drop-dead interior hacienda home views, that's my neighbor's home that BB rents occasionally to film at. I agree...it'll never be the original Dallas...but it keeps my interest... Have they ever mentioned Pam on the new show? How did they write her off the original? I don't remember! I had Steve Kanaly on a flight several years ago...he was very nice...I knew his voice before I saw his face! I was on the floor setting up the beverage cart and he came back and asked me for something...i thought...mmm I know that voice...boy was I surprised when I turned around and saw him standing there!!

I only watched the first episode of Blood and Oil and could see how the whole thing was laid out for the season. It's way too breathless, in the current way of ABC shows, without the kind of dynamic lead that the Shonda shows have. The first episode of Blindspot is a total mess and I nearly dumped it, but there was nothing else interesting on when the second one aired and it was better. Turns out to be more intriguing than it should be. There's a woowoo element to it -- the tattoos seem too predictive to be merely roadmaps from old information, but even though there's really not much there, I find I enjoy it and like the characters. I liked the Limitless film, so have been watching the series. It keeps thinking like a film, however, and is going to exhaust itself or eat its young. For the moment, I like it kind of middling. It's sort of like a comic book style Castle with the naive rogue outsider leaping in. I wouldn't miss it if it were gone. I really like Quantico. It has the most depth of any of these shows. It has a lot of depth for a show that has depth. The characters are very well drawn and distinguishable one from the next, which is rare on TV ensembles. The parallel story telling between the academy and the future can be annoying, especially if one doesn't have eyes glued to the screen, but, unlike in some shows, there is enough difference between the characters and their past selves, and their relationships and the past relationships, that it's really very interesting. There's also some of that ABC breathless quality, but since there's actual peril, not made up soap opera peril, and since it's driven by a forward moving plot, it doesn't bother me. It's my favorite new show. I like Heroes Reborn, but it's not exactly new. :) And I liked Heroes. I think it's supposed to be a limited run, which is good, since the plot is save the world. For self-contained, episodic procedural, I like Rosewood. It could be an 80's show, but I like that the rogue outsider is a qualified professional rather than just some dude, and it doesn't matter what the body of the week is--I could just watch Morris Chestnut and listen to his voice and be sufficiently entertained. :) The supporting players are also good, though, so it's not a one man show, and it's a thrill every time the great Lorraine Toussaint has a scene (as his mother).
