Can food processors really dice veggies?
Comments (23)You know, I spent a lot of money on a Cuisinart food processor- its an 11 cup, so decent capacity. I'm a bachelor, so when I cook, I make REALLY BIG batches, and it entails A LOT of veg prep. I typically make 10-11 quart batches of soup, chili, etc. At first, I was severely disappointed with the peppers/onion chopping. I mistakenly used the S- blade for things I shouldn't. Somebody on this site said that "it takes practice". So true. I am now chopping with my food processor with decent results; I would dare say almost presentable where it matters. I basically use the disc (round) slicing blade (not the shredding blade), and I sort of crowd the small round feed tube on top of the lid to keep the vegetables together and unable to move around. For example, I put half a small bell pepper cut into four pieces plus half of the top, pushed it down quickly, and got a nice chop. So, it's possible to cut down (haha) prep time with decent results. If it works, I am attaching a pic of a chop I just did. I am making chicken, peppers, onion, and black beans with cilantro lime rice (basically Chipotle at home). YUM! :) So yes, food processor is your friend. Happy cooking all!...See MoreWhich canned cat food is squishy rather than chunky?
Comments (29)Where do you buy this Wellness food? I hadn't thought of cream cheese. Is that something cats like in general? She doesn't seem to like regular cheese. We are down to 2 very small pills a day, which has made it much easier. In case it's useful to others...I found a very soft cat treat at Petco, "Animal Planet" jerky treats. I had already tried a few other brands that were too rubbery. These treats are small, pea-sized. I am pressing it flat between thumb and forefinger, pressing the pill in, then rolling the treat around it. Heat of hand makes them more malleable. It's working so far; and at $3 a bag is one quarter the price of the Pill Pockets. (I am still shocked at how expensive those are! $12 a bag, for 45 pieces! I don't like to feel like I'm being taken advantage of just because my cat is sick.) If we have to use big pills again I may still have to use those....See MoreCats stopped eating dry food
Comments (19)I have a good update! After trying more brands, Merrick's being one, as it is reputed to be highly palatable. Well, not so with my kids. Sigh. The clerk was very surprised, when I returned the bag. I was also told that to try a food that's good for urine infection/crystals. Apparently it's tasty, as the cats have to eat it to help with their urinary tract. So I bought Purina Pro Plan. Again, they wouldn't touch it. I finally decided to try a "MacDonald's" brand once again. Cat Chow. And they're eating! They're also nibbling at a couple of other ones that I have on the floor (a higher quality store brand food (President's Choice) and Whiskas). Their appetite for dry is coming back. I do want to switch them over, eventually to a better food. I like the idea of Grain-free food, but I know that there isn't anything that's sweet tasting or palatable to them, so it will be a long transition. As far as drinking out of the toilet, I don't have a problem with them doing it, Smudge does it the most. I've read often that the toilet bowl is cleaner than kitchen sinks!...See MoreMy cat is fat: Food recommendation and kitten update
Comments (19)I found Dr. Pierson's website 2 years ago and put our 16 lb. VERY food motivated female on an all-wet, no-free-feeding diet and she did wonderfully. On top of the weight loss, her bowel movements improved 100%, as she used to have soft, pudding-like movements quite frequently when we gave her dry. Her energy levels did a complete 180 degrees as well and she was back to acting like a kitten. She is exactly like Sarah's cat in that if you food down, she will eat it ALL and then go over to the other kitty's bowls and eat ALL of their food...and then beg for more! We knew that if we didn't get a handle on things, she would become obese quite quickly. Now, she gets Wellness Chicken or Turkey wet food twice a day. We have to feed her separately from our other cat, as she will inhale her food in 3 seconds while our male is just getting started. We also noticed that wet foods with fish or seafood are too rich for her and contribute to her getting what I call "pudding butt". She managed to trim down 3 1/2 lbs and looks great!
