I don't have any personal experience with it, but this climber - Isabella Skinner - is supposed to be hardy into at least zone 4 (& maybe more). It's not a climbing rose most people have heard of, but apparently the few who grow it like it. It was bred (in the early 1960's?) by a Canadian from Manitoba who was trying to create roses hardy enough for his climate. It's bred from a tea rose, a floribunda rose, and a wild Siberian rose (Rosa laxa). I've emailed briefly with the Utah nursery that will send it to people from other parts of the USA, and from that conversation I suspect it will grow for you on a 4' high fence. It's fragrant, it reblooms during the summer, and I suspect it will be hardy enough for you. Oh, and it also has very few thorns. As I said, I have no personal experience with it, but I'm intrigued enough by it to mention it for your consideration. (I have a big climbing rose I need to replace. When I have the $$ to do so I'm planning to replace City of York with Isabella Skinner/Victorian Memory. City of York is just too big and too thorny for my location.)

This cat has attacked my son twice now, not the cats' fault. Their son has tormented this poor cat ever since they got it, it's mean. We've all said things to the parents and the child, but it falls on deaf ears. This cat has targeted my son now, my son is very gentle with animals, the first time was SO awful, he had to go to the hospital and get rabies shots- the cat had never been to a vet. He sunk his teeth into my sons' foot, and in a matter of an hour, it swelled from his foot to above his knee. It was very traumatic for all of us, our son is also Autistic, these people didn't care what happened to him, they were told to keep the cat indoors, and within days, the cat was back out. This last time, the cat attacked him on the back of his legs, I EXPLODED!!! My son has been terrified to go outside because of this animal, we are thinking about getting a lawyer, I'm tired of dealing with this. So far, the cat escaped once, but they retrieved him back inside, so I'm waiting for them to get lax again, if they do, it's all bets off, I am not going to have my son being afraid to play outdoors. It's like the cat knows my son is easy prey, he only goes after him, maybe it senses the fear he has. I don't know, but I will not continue to tolerate this from these people.

I did the eye hook and wire thing with two of my climbers that were up against my house on trellises. I removed the trellis and now the roses are flush against the house and I've been able to extend them more horizontally. Iceberg looks like it's going to be putting on a spectacular show. QE is a bit slower and may have lost it's spring (and usually only) flush in a cold snap a few weeks ago:( I have 4 other climbers up against a fence/arbor and I am going to do the same with them after they finish their spring bloom. I was supposed to do it this winter, but never got around to it.

Patti, for what it's worth - I have 3 tamed cats that were truly feral and not socialized cats that were just dumped and left to fend for themselves. Zeke, Scamper and Finnigan - who had to be "boxed" with anesthetic gas in his carrier before the vets could work on him. And it was a year before I could touch Scamp. If you've tamed her enough to make a pet of her, then trust me, you can bring her indoors. I think you'd be surprised at how dogs and cats can live together if they are introduced with the proper techniques. Actually it's almost always the cats who eventually rule the dogs - not the other way around. But it all depends on how you introduce them. If you're serious about protecting both the cat and the wildlife, you should consider trying to keep her indoors. I think you might surprise yourself. Assuming the worst defeats you before you even start.
