Well Howard, lookee here, you want to go to Chicago. Lots of company. The thing with going back to NY rather than elsewhere, for me, is that NY is easy to get into and out of, I can do a RT in one day, don't need hotels, don't need to rent a car, don't need a pet sitter at home etc, etc, etc..... That and I don't feel like taking my vacations in the States going to orchid shows. If I'm going to go to the trouble of organizing a few days out of town, I want it to be well worth it. Albeit,it's fun meeting people from the forum. Not having Paul around anymore to take care of the dogs and birds, when I decide to disappear for a couple of days, just adds another "issue" to consider. At the moment,I don't have the energy.

Hey Primgal, I was in that class with you! It was a great class! Definately got me motivated to start on this new adventure! I am planning on WSing my foxglove seeds. I wasn't quite sure if we should do it now, because they are biennals, or if we were supposed to plant them closer to when we do our annuals. I think I will just do mine now and keep my fingers crossed! That is kind of the fun of this WSing, it seems! The excitment of seeing what comes up this spring! Good luck to you! I've got some I rescued when I saw they were still alive after bringing them in from growing from seed their first year and literally dumping them in a pile of soil I thought I'd mix and use again. They were like that for months. To tell the truth, I felt sorry for them when I saw there was still a little green in them, dry as a bone, and they taught me how most living things want to live. So I put them in a middle size pot with fresh soil on my step ladder by an east window in the breakfast room I use as my potting shed lol. They fell off once and lost some soil. Should put them in a different pot with fresh soil again. It took about 4 years, but they flower, one set another one, I didn't pay much attention because I didn't expect much. They say they are invasive. Well my clump finally migrated to the center of a smallish pot and looks like 4 or 5 little onions on the bottom lol. They bounce back fast after getting a haircut. I snip them into all sorts of things, mostly to add interest. I can't taste them. They are especially nice when I cook my potpourri of baked fish or baked potatoes and sour cream when I don't have green onions. If I bite into a little piece, I can taste them, but I can't in whatever I've snipped them into, and I pile a lot on my potatoes. I guess I like the look of it if nothing else.

I've been growing about 40 roses (mostly DA's, about 1/4 of them OGR's, and then just about 5 or 6 are HT's) in large 24" terra cotta pots for about 7 yrs since I rented a house. I finally bought my first home last spring on a huge lot, and will finally be planting all the roses in a new designed garden I'm planning, next month. They have always performed great for me, but do take a lot of watering especially during the summer. At least I thought they were great until I compared them to my mother's English garden that I had planted 2 yrs ago for her as her 50th birthday present. Her DA's grew much faster then mine did and bloom larger and more profusely than mine ever had. So yes you can grow roses just fine in pots, but I really can't wait to get mine in the ground and see what they can really do!! Brian This post was edited by ocbrian on Sun, Jan 18, 15 at 21:45
