you can sow hybrids/ of course if they are not sterile/ but results might or might not to be true to parents. Some differences will be so slight you will not notice it much- leaf color, height, number of flowers per plant etc.
I have WS both foxglove and sweet peas with success. Sweet peas actually were one of the earliest seeds to germinate for me and tolerated cold snaps very well. Foxglove will germinate at warm.

I have WS foxgloves all ready this year. I've had very good success in previous years. They are always one of the first things I WS.

I WS'd foxgloves and sweetpeas last year. They both came up great in their containers. The foxgloves grew beautifully once in the ground, but my sweet peas didn't do much. I wonder if it's the weather/soil around here, because I direct sowed some as well, and they still didn't do well.

Here in Zone 6, I wintersowed Foxglove "Alba" on Feb 12th, 2007. They germinated April 7th. I planted them out May 20th. I didn't fuss with the seeds at all, just sowed them in a container. The plants grew HUGE last summer; should bloom this spring.

Mo girl, What kind of foxglove is that, which flowered the 1st yr.?

When to do sweet peas in z5, we will be seeing spring in march here, possible 60s.

It's Foxglove Camelot Rose. It's a hybrid variety that's supposed to bloom the first year. I purchased the seeds from Valueseeds.

I summer sowed some Foxglove Apricot that I'm hoping will bloom this year for me. I'm pretty excited about these, as it's such a gorgeous color.

I was in that class with you! It was a great class! Definately got me motivated to start on this new adventure!

I am planning on WSing my foxglove seeds. I wasn't quite sure if we should do it now, because they are biennals, or if we were supposed to plant them closer to when we do our annuals. I think I will just do mine now and keep my fingers crossed! That is kind of the fun of this WSing, it seems! The excitment of seeing what comes up this spring!

I have successfully sown both, no nicking or soaking of seeds. I don't do that with any WSown seeds and they germinate just fine. The weather does it for you.

I winter sowed several varieties of digitalis on 3-21-07 with good germination by April 4-28. All were planted out and grew well over the summer. Hopefully they will survive the winter and bloom this year. Have had others survive a winter and bloom the next year.

I have already started some seeds. I just wasn't sure on these. Especially when you read other information that contradicts.
I was very inspired from that class, I appreciate all your feedback.
So far I've w/s english daisy,coneflower,hollyhock,flax,fleabane,monarda,dianthus,
forget-me-not, and I have alot more to do.
I'm doing a little each day when I have some time.
I'll let you know what happens, you let me know too. It's nice to have another contact as far as gardening goes.
