Whispers...a holiday drink that is delicious..

Just going through old stand-by recipes and thought ya'll might like this one. I copied it many years ago from a Southern Living mag. These are so delicious..also quite potent :) The delicious factor outweighs the cautionary one!

Whispers

1qt coffee ice-cream
1/4c cognac
1/4c white creme de cocoa
1/4c Kahlua
whir in chilled blender till just mixed. serve in chilled stem ware with shaved chocolate on top or dusting of cocoa. Enjoy !

Sounds wonderful!....sort of in the same genre as a Golden Caddilac or a Grasshopper or a Pink Squirrel or a Nutty Bishop!

As an old pro at making ice cream drinks I might change your recipe to read:
For one serving
2 scoops of coffee ice cream
1 oz cognac
1 oz creme de cacoa
1 oz kahlua
Blend 20 seconds, pour into a large stemmed margarita glass and top with shaved chocolate!
Um yum....that way you don't have to drink the whole quart of ice cream at once!!

With that calorie count this would be lunch, dinner, dessert, and a cocktail for me!

Sounds delicious, though!

The whipped chocolate is new this year, I think. Pinnacle (made in France by the Grey Goose people) has an extensive line of flavored vodkas (as well as plain). I've heard that their Whipped (whipped cream flavor) is very good. I haven't tried it, but when I found the Whipped Chocolate on sale, and the clerk said she heard it was great, I thought I'd give it a try. I like the Pinnacle Vanilla vodka because it's made with real vanilla. But mostly what I use is the plain.

Thanks, all, for the ginger beer sources. We used to be able to buy three different varieties of Pimm's Cup. Now just #1. I'm so old that I remember having lunch at a Pimm's in London. (Ladies were seated on the second floor -- more genteel than the first floor, where the bar was located.)

An update on my chocolate cake and chocolate frosting. I used the Ghiradelli Double chocolate cake mix and the same brand for the icing. I added an extra egg, butter instead of oil and milk instead of water. Thanks Tina and Mtn! The cake turned out amazing and my friend loved it. I actually thought it was delicious as well (given I am not a big fan of chocolate). I have never made chocolate frosting before. I used loads of butter, half and half, cocoa powder and confectioner's sugar and vanilla extract. It turned out perfectly. My friend loved the cake and took it home. I would share a photo but it wasn't a pretty cake. I did a bit of decorating in the limited time I had (and I live in a small apartment) and made her wear this banner which she loved. We drank champagne and played some silly games and we had a blast. It is so wonderful when you and your best friend get together and it feels like you had a huge party! Thanks so much for everyone's input!

That's what I like about the fromage fort. We can freeze it until we feel justified in eating cheese again. We try to be moderate with cheese throughout the year but go crazy at Christmas. I didn't mention it, but I usually give my husband 2 or 3 nice cheeses in his stocking. He is very much a cheese lover. Obviously I didn't use any of his "stocking cheese" in the fromage fort. There would have been h*** to pay if I had.

Linda...all the fun is in having to finish it :) and with 2 couples it goes pretty fast.

Eileen...it is holiday time..with all the stress and activities this is a negative calorie count...I'm sure...right ??? :) c

My sister in law, husband & mys usused to make these all the time!! They are SOOOO Good! My sister in law also found the recipe in a Southern Living Magazine. I had misplaced the recipe & have been looking for it!! So glad I FINALLY have it again!! Thanks for posting!!
