how long do you wait?

We originally wanted to have all the painting done in our new construction before moving in. Then we were told it would be around 8K to pay for colored semi-gloss or eggshell throughout the house.

Then we decided to get bids from other painters (not connected to the GC) after closing. Then someone told us we should wait at least a year before doing any "nice" paint jobs to allow for settling and nail pop fixes, etc.

The standard paint is one color, white, and one finish, "scrub-able flat" from SW. The wall surface is smooth and the ceiling is lightly sanded.

What would you do? Live with the white until some settling and nail pops have happened and been fixed OR get it painted how we want now, because there shouldn't be too much "repair" work needed for nail pops and settling?

Thanks for your advice!
