Live Wire Oak--Ok, so the counters are tropical brown granite (and thanks for asking because that got me looking in another direction). I did see some painted creamy white cabinets that looked great with the tropic brown so I feel ok about them. We will be doing wood floors hopefully the beginning of next year. The granite will stay. Definitely want new light fixtures. I'd love a different backsplash but not sure I want to do the work of tearing this one out and putting one up (again). DH and I did that one. I guess that will depend on how much it bugs me once I do everything else. Hate the plain island and want to do something about that. You said blues/greens go well with salmon pink and I was just looking at the master bath. It has the same cabinets and we did Austere Gray, which is a light green color, and it looks fabulous with the cabinets. But I wouldn't want my family room/kitchen that color. Oh and yes, all one color for both rooms is what I'm going for. I think I'm liking the Manchester tan. It seems to tone the yellow down quite a bit. I may just go with that and do what Maria Killam suggested in the link above. (paint walls manchester tan, cabinets white down and I'll do the trim white down). That way I could work in stages and not have to do the cabinets right away but still have the color look decent with the current cabs. Here are some other pics. This was when I was looking for barstools: Family room--working on making slipcovers for the chairs so that's why they look that way. Other wall--thought about getting a large entertainment unit for that wall that is off white to look like a built in, or making some type of built in. Other option is tv over fireplace. Here's the latest. I love the Dior Gray and Pigeon Gray. Thanks anntique for that photo of the room. I was leaning towards the darker of the two, the Dior Gray, but I'm worried it might be too dark (I want to use it on the walls that are now lighter gray in the photos) and put the pigeon gray on the fireplace wall. But after seeing that photo, I wonder if I should go with pigeon all over and dior on the fireplace wall, and then in the foyer. Too many decisions and not enough daylight time at home to decide. I'm worried that the darker walls will make the room(s) look too long and narrow. But I love the way the floor lamp next to the green chair shines with the Dior gray behind it. As you can tell, I'm not afraid of dark colors, but I don't want to turn the place into a cave either. I did investigate getting a sample of the pewter mug at 1/2 strength, but there are no samples in Pitts. Paint, so I would have to fork over $22 for a sample. I think that the 2 colors I'm working with are really nice. I just don't know how to use them. Regarding the fireplace, it's real. Although it is only gas and even though it has a blower, it has a label that does say "for decorative purposes only"....no wonder why it makes the room colder. We have actually turned out the pilot light on it and don't even use it. We might replace the insert with something that is more efficient. As we are approaching the empty nest stage, it would be nice to be able to just warm up that room after work and not the entire house. I have the mirror there because the fireplace is extremely hideous and I just can't look at the yellow brass one more second. I think we are going to paint it with high heat paint so it just "goes away", but we'll see, maybe it WILL just go away and be replaced! I posted yesterday in a separate thread about the fireplace wall--If I do the lighter color see that Julianna Moore link above, does anybody thnk I should then paint the fireplace a darker gray to contrast? Maybe the white would look good. I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me on this. Thanks

ellendi - Thank you for your kind words. I talked to a interior designer friend of mine after I posted. She said absolutely don't change anything until the floors go in later this week. The grey cast from the cement slab may very well be adding to the undertone of the travertine. Another friend stopped by this evening to take a peek and said that looking directly at the BS, she didn't see any pink. However, when she looked directly at the two areas where the existing paint meets the top of the BS (no wall cabinet above) she did see where the coloring got funky...meaning in addition to the cement cast, the existing paint color, although it never looked out of place before, may very well be causing the travertine to change tone in those two areas - which just so happens are the two areas that have bugged me the most and looked the most off in shading. Because it came from someone else other than the crazy wife, DH actually sounded receptive to repainting the downstairs so it can be better suited color wise with the kitchen, which sounds like to me is more than likely going to have to be painted to better suit the BS. There is hope yet--this option sounds much better than pulling the whole thing out - which I don't know if that would even be an option with the DH. :D blubird- Thank you for sharing your experience. I have previously moistened it with a wet towel and it did take on a darker tone - I just wasn't sure if it was enhancing the pink tones as well. Although I purchased one and it's ready to go, I am going to hold off on using an enhancing sealer until the floor is in and then also possibly until after any painting is done. I am almost positive the paint color needs to be changed so I might as well have those constants in place before I enhance the travertine part of the BS. Which enhancer did you use? I purchased Miracle Sealants Company 'Seal and Enhance.' I checked out the reviews and it seemed like a good product although I am always open to suggestions!

I moved some things around. The original lightbulbs were LED 2700. I haven’t tried LED’s in a different range yet, but I did take some of the green art and accessories away and experimented with adding cooler blues to the mix. I’m happy with the result.
