white springs granite looks dirty from certain angles

I had white springs granite installed and I absolutely love the color variation and all the movement. Just one problem - it looks like there is a film or something on the granite in certain light. The granite feels perfectly smooth to the touch & it only appears this way where certain veins (I think that's the right word for it) run through it. Is there anything I can do or is this just how the variations of my granite will look from certain angles and light?

could you post a photo? I just had cold springs installed. I'm not sure what white springs is, but my cold springs is similar to delicatus. Its not delicatus though. the place where I bought it also sells delicatus along with the cold springs. I notice that in certain light I can see what looks like sort of pearl like appearance.

I have Bianco Antico, which has a lot of inclusions. We were concerned as well when we looked at our slab from a certain angle in a certain light - and noticed that it looked like a film was all over in certain spots. But like you said, it was completely smooth to the touch. The granite people just said it's due to the various inclusions and the fact that they look different when polished. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have had Blue Pearl granite in my kitchen for about 5 years and I absolutely love it. My kitchen is sunny, and the ever-changing features of this granite continually amaze me at different times of day and in various weather conditions. It looks different on cloudy days than it does when the sun is bright. Sometimes there are little fiery copper-ish specks in it that you normally don't see. On some days the blue leaps out at you while on other days it looks more gray-ish. It's beautiful, and I love it even more today than I did when I first got it. We have a stainless steel sink, which looks good with it, btw. I have a set of blue Le Crueset cookware, with matching blue utensil crocks, sugar bowl, tea kettle, spoon rest, etc, that look really striking with the Blue Pearl granite. One other great thing about this granite is that it doesn't show waterspots or spills. I have to remind myself to wipe the counters, because the busy-ness of the flecks kinda camouflages crumbs and little food spills that occur while cooking. I'm not sure I'd want Blue Pearl in a kitchen that DIDN'T get a lot of light, because you'd miss a lot of the beauty that comes out in it as sunlight plays across the surface. I do a lot of cooking, and I have yet to become so mesmerized by the granite that I've burned the soup, so I say "Go for it!"

I know I'm a bit late to this post but it was so helpful to me in choosing my granite for our kitchen renovation. I wanted the white marble, but knew it wouldn't work for our family. Maybe someday. For now, I went with River White and just had it installed. I love it and it doesn't have any browns in it which was what I was going for. I love the very white sections, but the contrasting grays and bits of light garnet are a nice contrast to my white painted cabinets. Take a look! Here is a link that might be useful: My White Kitchen

Black Galaxy here -- I don't see crumbs, etc because of the coppery flecks. I have to run my hand over it to feel for crumbs. I DO see most liquid though, and I'm glad for that; when I see any liquid, like a ring from a cup or glass, small spill, etc I can wipe it. No streaking though, or none that I can see :) I'm still getting used to it and find myself scratching my head sometimes... are you dirty or not? But instead of answering it just sits there blinking at me :)

Is it a white lacy film? We have that on our granite as well. All of my research has indicated that this is indicative of excessive/improperly applied sealer. But I'm beginning to question this as I have a sample of Bianco Romano that came direct from the granite yard and which I doubt is sealed and it has that film, too. Makes me wonder if it's just the nature of the white granites / quartzites.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I would post a photo but my camera doesn't pick up this "film" that seems to appear in daylight in particular. Also the areas I am referring to follow exact veins or darker colors of the granite so if it was too much sealer then I would think I'd have splotches or whole areas vs these areas run with the color variation.

Sounds indeed like what I have. My suspicion is that it's either the stone or the interaction of the stone with the sealer. In other words, some stones/minerals absorb the sealer better than others. Or it might be from the resin that they apply before you even see it as the presumably non-sealed sample I have also has that appearance.

I have white springs granite that seems to be turning yellow in some areas. I have been faithful keeping it clean and sealed. I've had this kitchen countertop slab granite for almost 10 years now. The bull nose curve is pretty white but the above counter seems to be changing. Any suggestions? Thanks!
