Granite and Soapstone together? White granite?
Comments (3)I'm just remodeling my kitchen, and that was my original thought - to mix the soapstone on the perimter with a complementary granite on the island. I was thinking of a whiter granite with grey/black in it. Well as it turns out I need a bit more than one slab for the soapstone for the perimeter countertops - i.e. needed 2 slabs - which would then also do the whole kitchen in soapstone. So it would have been more expensive for me to add the granite in. And, the soapstone itself was so lovely I decided I would like that look better anyway. Just bought it yesterday - Julia :) I also realized it was going to be pretty time-consuming to find an interesting but good contrasting granite - so good luck with your search!...See MoreBacksplash Help - Alaska White Granite, Off White Cabinets
Comments (20)Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. I'd really enjoy seeing some of the choices you have made. Comments (4)I've just googled these two names. The "American White" is coming up as another name for White Fantasy, mined in Brazil, or Himalayan White, mined in India. That doesn't necessarily signify that the American White one you are looking at is either one of those. Granite names are all over the place, and the same granite can be called by different names at stoneyards located a block from each other. The Bethel White name is definitely mined in North America. Because of the white-ness of these granites, I would see if you can test them first for how easily they stain. While most granites are pretty bullet-proof, needing one coat of sealant a year, and some granites needing zero sealant at all, the white ones tend to behave more like marble because they stain and etch easily. Not all of the white ones though, that is the thing. Hard to know if the ones you are looking at will be the more tough type, or the more porous staining type. Best for you to take a test piece of the granite, wipe a bit of sealant on it, and then a drop of wine or juice, and see what happens. Does it stain or etch or does it wipe off? Most people don't want to be a slave to their counters, or worried about them all the time. Most granites allow that freedom of not having to worry. I would check on the ones that you are considering....See Morealex9179
