FootSmart? any one order? also Angies list, anyone use it?

I keep getting catalogs from FootSmart, never ordered, as I do use Auditions. Anyone order from them? Also I had a great moving company, and they started getting requests from Angies list to fill out. Because they listed 2 different addresses, called them, and both were wrong. She is going to check it out. But getting mail from Angies list Also indicated there was a fee involved, but not sure it is for the seller or buyer>

I use Angie's List and have been very happy with it. The fee is to the buyer. I think I pay $25 per year. A seller cannot pay to be reviewed on Angie's List, which is great, because otherwise they could have more impact on the reviews, what's shown, etc.

I don't use Angie's List often, but when I do it's been worth the money for me.

I have ordered from Foot Smart and they're okay. I prefer to order shoes from sites with free shipping and returns as shoes (I think) are harder than clothes to be sure they'll fit.

Has anyone paid for a subscription to angieslist.com? If so, was it worth the money spent? I'm here in the SF Bay Area (on the Peninsula). I wonder how useful the list is to Bay Area residents. I'm a true believer in having a good (excellent) handyman that you know well for most stuff around the house. Our house sorta came with it's own handyman. He's been doing all the work at all of the houses on our penninsula for about 15 years. When we moved in our neighbor gave us his card & we've used him ever since. He's a bit of a strange duck though & not everybody could/would tolerate his quirks, I think. For instance, he won't give you any type quote except for materials & then he brings you all the receipts as soon as he purchases materials. The first job he did for us I asked, "How much?" He said, "As much as you think it's worth & don't ever ask me that question again." He just finished residing our entire house & repainting the trim in October. Also had new gutters installed. We had horizontal cedar siding & I've always wanted cedar Nantucket-style shingles. Since builing costs are lower now & the house needed at the minimum painting we decided to get some quotes. We ran those quotes by our handyman & he said, "You wouldn't have to pay me as much. You'll still need to get somebody else to do the gutters." So, he got the job. Anyway, he did it all with one helper. Our handyman HATES to paint. His helper was his neighbor who happens to be an artist, a portrait artist, working mostly with athletes. So, our paint job on the trim is VERY good. :) They found & corrected some rot using materials he had just laying around & said not to bother paying him for them 'cause they were in his way at home anyway. What's really odd is that he's a nuclear submarine training simulator designer/engineer in his real life. He just does handyman work 'cause he likes construction. So, we have to be patient & let him work on his schedule, not always ours. Anyway, if you can, find a really good handyman & then you've always got somebody to call when something bad happens at 2:00 a.m. Saturday night. I'm a SF Bay area subscriber to Angie's List. I can't say I've used it a lot, but I found 2 service providers on it: the first a dog trainer and the second a house painter. I never would have found either if it hadn't been for Angie's List, and both were excellent. I've also posted reviews of my general contractor and a couple of other businesses in my area. I think it's a relatively small price to pay to subscribe but well worth it in my view. Ann

Once you find one or two good trades people, you can also ask them to recommend others. That has worked well for us. We joined Angie's list recently because we were going to do a pool remodel. My husband handled that so I don't know if he found it worthwhile, but there was one creepy aspect to Angie's list. A few months after joining, we got a phone call from them soliciting reviews on areas where they need more reviews - the list of what they were looking for started with neurologist, went through a bunch of medical specialties. Quite personal information to ask someone to reveal - I told him that after he had asked about the first few that I wasn't going answer questions about which medical specialists I've used and so he moved on reading the list. The next category wasn't any better and I told him that if I had a review I wanted to post, I'd go to their website and put it in, but I didn't care to spend any more time on the phone with him and didn't want to be quizzed about what services I use.

We used Angie's List for our Kitchen contractor and loved him~~he and his crew did a great job and he was a very nice man.

We are getting ready to get a painter through them, not sure if we can get flooring through the list and shutters, but we will be happy if we can;)

I have ordered from FootSmart, and they are OK, but their shipping is quite high, I think. If you are thinking of ordering shoes, go with shoebuy.com. There is no shipping even for returns, and their prices are very comparable.

Zappo's is good for shoes, No shipping on goods or returns. I have been very happy with them. Shipping and handling fees can be such rip offs.

I have ordered from Footsmart for dads compression dress socks and we are very happy with them. They have even waived the shipping cost on re-orders.

I have used both and happy with both. While the shoes I got from Footsmart were expensive, they really helped me get rid of foot pain. And I still have the shoes after 3 years. They are not in the best shape, but they are hanging in there. :)

I like Angie's List and have been satisfied with the work I've had done. I always feel at a disadvantage because I am alone and it is hard to get work done and easy to be taken advantage of, so I've been happy to have a way to find workers I can trust.

If your town or city has anything like a home and garden show, the folks from Angie's List usually are there, and the price to join is much lower at the show than if you just Google'd it and joined that way (the membership renewal prices are lower at the shows, too). Yes, it costs to go to the shows, but usually there are newspaper and Groupon-type coupons available.

I've ordered from Footsmart before; they're OK.
I also order from Zappos -- just compare prices. Some items I've seen on Zappos were more expensive than other places even once you factor in shipping (I believe that Zappos' prices are slightly higher here and there because of that).

Mostly the same answer here....FootSmart is ok, especially if you need wide sizes, or special brands. For "compression hosiery" I have found Ames Walker to be good.... lots of sizes and advice.
