FootSmart? any one order? also Angies list, anyone use it?

I keep getting catalogs from FootSmart, never ordered, as I do use Auditions. Anyone order from them? Also I had a great moving company, and they started getting requests from Angies list to fill out. Because they listed 2 different addresses, called them, and both were wrong. She is going to check it out. But getting mail from Angies list Also indicated there was a fee involved, but not sure it is for the seller or buyer>

I use Angie's List and have been very happy with it. The fee is to the buyer. I think I pay $25 per year. A seller cannot pay to be reviewed on Angie's List, which is great, because otherwise they could have more impact on the reviews, what's shown, etc.

I don't use Angie's List often, but when I do it's been worth the money for me.

I have ordered from Foot Smart and they're okay. I prefer to order shoes from sites with free shipping and returns as shoes (I think) are harder than clothes to be sure they'll fit.

I'm not too sure about Angie's List. So far, someone who I worked for gave me an "A" rating. And someone I never worked for, talked to or provided an estimate to, gave me an "F" rating. They had only emailed. So ... this last January comes along ... A man who read both reviews hired me. He got one other estimate from an Angie's List referral. The man hired me because the other company told him it would take 2 hours to prune his 17 trees, and I told him it would take about 2 days. It took me 2 work days. And he said he liked the pruning a lot. So I have been encountering tales and experiences of both hit and miss with Angie's List. My favorite option for referrals is to call professional contractors and ask them who they would hire to work on their home. Like calling a plumber and asking what electrician they would hire. Or calling the manager of Les Schwab Tires and asking which mechanic he would pick to work on his truck engine. So getting back to this paint thing. One option for finding a painter, could be to call the workers or manager of a Sherwin Williams or Miller Paint business, and ask for a couple of contractors who they would like to see painting their homes.

live in the area between Dallas and FTW--more referrals for some types of companies are for the Dallas area --Fort Worth was more recent addition to the list and with Angie's list there is no guarantee that the person/company you choose will be the cheapest--there is no way to price-check a bid except by getting more than one have been Angie's List member about 3 yrs--found a good electrician and a plumber who saved me over $500 when my water heater needed to be replaced--did a great job and because it was a retrofit it was difficult to bring it up to code... we found the guy who painted the interior and did some other work at house we bought last year and he is doing remodeling for older one we are getting ready to put on the market--he does not have a web-site and is a smaller operation but has a real desire to do a good job the gutters for that house are being replaced by company from the list-- we had the motor on the security gate for our new house replaced by company from the list as well and got some bids for landscaping--they were really higher than we wanted to pay but frankly the job probably would have been better done if we had used one of them then our regular yard guy when we had our old house re-roofed I should have used someone from the list but went with another roofer that a friend recommended--her job was done well--think ours with a different salesman/agent was not so well-done... I think most of the reviews are really from people who have used the list--not like Apartment search reviews on something like Google which are often from other apt people-- but like anything--there is no guarantee that your choice will be perfect what I like about the Angie's pages is that there is usually a link to BBB site so you can read about the company--which is helpful to me... I just wish there was some way to contact posters about the longevity of the job--did it hold up--how were later problems handled-- that is where quality comes into play...

Once you find one or two good trades people, you can also ask them to recommend others. That has worked well for us. We joined Angie's list recently because we were going to do a pool remodel. My husband handled that so I don't know if he found it worthwhile, but there was one creepy aspect to Angie's list. A few months after joining, we got a phone call from them soliciting reviews on areas where they need more reviews - the list of what they were looking for started with neurologist, went through a bunch of medical specialties. Quite personal information to ask someone to reveal - I told him that after he had asked about the first few that I wasn't going answer questions about which medical specialists I've used and so he moved on reading the list. The next category wasn't any better and I told him that if I had a review I wanted to post, I'd go to their website and put it in, but I didn't care to spend any more time on the phone with him and didn't want to be quizzed about what services I use.

Though as I posted above, I find AL very useful, doesn't mean I am thrilled with everything. I have been with them since they first came to our city. One example of problems that happen is that I had a wonderful experience with a tree-trimming company and I was the one responsible for adding them to the AL database. They probably didn't even know what it was when I did that. I gave them a glowing report. A couple of years later, I was going to hire them again for another job and find they are about three times more expensive at least according to their bid. Success often spoils company. That is why I never use the ones that have the most reviews even if good reviews. Sort of like the stock market, you want to buy when they are low (and new). If you wait too late, then you are not getting that great of a deal. As they grow, they often have to totally reorganize their business, hire new people and buy new equipment. This means it is basically another company than that which you originally hired. Because business sense is not that easy to come by, most of the time, the new company they have become is not as good as the old one (and I don't judge just by price). And like some of those new tech companies in Silicon Valley, the original company you gave a glowing review for got tons of business, made some nice money and has sold the company to someone else - no longer the same company at all though has the same name. Success can definitely spoil a company. So let the buyer beware. AL is good but in some ways has caused a new problem that people need to watch out for. But I don't plan to terminate my membership anytime soon. I just know that there is no substitute for doing homework, getting references, getting multiple bids (this last one I hate the most).

We used Angie's List for our Kitchen contractor and loved him~~he and his crew did a great job and he was a very nice man.

We are getting ready to get a painter through them, not sure if we can get flooring through the list and shutters, but we will be happy if we can;)

I have ordered from FootSmart, and they are OK, but their shipping is quite high, I think. If you are thinking of ordering shoes, go with shoebuy.com. There is no shipping even for returns, and their prices are very comparable.

Zappo's is good for shoes, No shipping on goods or returns. I have been very happy with them. Shipping and handling fees can be such rip offs.

I have ordered from Footsmart for dads compression dress socks and we are very happy with them. They have even waived the shipping cost on re-orders.

I have used both and happy with both. While the shoes I got from Footsmart were expensive, they really helped me get rid of foot pain. And I still have the shoes after 3 years. They are not in the best shape, but they are hanging in there. :)

I like Angie's List and have been satisfied with the work I've had done. I always feel at a disadvantage because I am alone and it is hard to get work done and easy to be taken advantage of, so I've been happy to have a way to find workers I can trust.

If your town or city has anything like a home and garden show, the folks from Angie's List usually are there, and the price to join is much lower at the show than if you just Google'd it and joined that way (the membership renewal prices are lower at the shows, too). Yes, it costs to go to the shows, but usually there are newspaper and Groupon-type coupons available.

I've ordered from Footsmart before; they're OK.
I also order from Zappos -- just compare prices. Some items I've seen on Zappos were more expensive than other places even once you factor in shipping (I believe that Zappos' prices are slightly higher here and there because of that).

Mostly the same answer here....FootSmart is ok, especially if you need wide sizes, or special brands. For "compression hosiery" I have found Ames Walker to be good.... lots of sizes and advice.

FootSmart? any one order? also Angies list, anyone use it?
