Midcentury Time Capsule

palimpsest

A 1955 contemporary by Paul Musser, who seems to have been a follower of Frank Lloyd Wright. It seems a bit "institutional" in some respects. There's a bit of "elementary school" or "nursing facility" in it, somehow.

However, part of the "offness" might be that although the physical shell of the house seems to be an intact time capsule, the house is comprehensively and cleverly Staged. Look at the kitchen. There are blank white panels or boxes standing in for refrigerator, DW, oven. The ceiling fixtures seem new out of the box.

The "real" house probably presented as the empty bedroom does with the floors oxidized around a never moved carpet. A house with exclusively such "new" looking, (while appropriate) furniture would never be so unchanged otherwise.
