Bleaching Mildew - Rinse Necessary?
Comments (11)What you can do is spray the wall down with bleach ... let it sit for a couple of hours, then spray it with baking soda in water to neutralize it. Bleach isn't acidic, so baking soda won't neutralize it. (It is very corrosive, but not acidic. Household bleach has a pH of 11 or higher, which puts it definitely in the alkaline range of the pH scale.) An acid like vinegar would work, though, or sodium sulfite (not sulfate) which one can find at pool stores. I like the idea of neutralizing instead of rinsing....See MoreIs T.S.P. nasty stuff?
Comments (12)Hi, It's a great cleaner but do wear gloves. It will eat the skin off of your hands. Your finger prints R removed. I go to a tanning salon where U scan your thumb and the scanner was not able to read it. The same thing happened at an airport. I almost was not allowed on the plane. I smoke and after my hands were exposed to TSP without gloves my fingers I was unable to flick a Bic lighter. This is strong stuff. I have a jug of the pre-mixed TSP in the garage and have yet 2 use. I have always used the powdered product which U purchase in the paint Dept. in any hardware store. U don't have to rinse as long as U don't use too much. Just follow the directions on the box. It works well but just B carefull....See MoreAdding Phosphates (TSP) to Miele Dishwasher
Comments (43)I'm on city water, but will say that the newer Miele tabs are also phosphate free, where the older ones that I got last year did contain phosphates. Both of theme cleaned equally well for me, but my issues was that the newer Miele tabs were creating a lot of suds in my Diamante unit, even though I was only using half a tab. It even cause the unit to trip the over-flow circuit, and I had to wait a few days before it started working again (Miele came out and checked the unit to make sure it was OK, I did show them the pics I had taken from the suds in the bottom of the unit from the Miele tabs). Since then I've been using the Method Smarty tabs from Target, which are phosphate free. I have tried a full tab and a half-tab, and don't get any suds from those, and still clean as good as the Miele tabs. See if you can get Miele to send you a couple tabs and a bottle of their dishwasher cleaner. I've used it twice before (ever 6 months) and it's supposed to clean out the entire washing system, hoses, pumps, spray arms, gasket seals, and the stainless interior. I just peal the cover off the bottle top, turn it upside down and place it in the middle rack so it won't fall over. Then place the unit on a Pots/Pans wash, and the hot water melts the wax seal on the bottle to dispense the cleaning agent into the unit while its running. After cleaning it, try the Miele tabs, but like I said, those are phosphate free, so there's no way to guess how those will work for you since you're on well water. You might also want to give the Method Smarty tabs a try too. Even though you're well water is treated at the house, are you also using the internal water softener in the Miele dishwasher? If not, you should, as some people have said it does help, even though they have a whole-home water softener/filter....See MoreTSP, Deglosser not doing great job at prep.
Comments (6)Liquid-Deglossers.....Ugh.... I actually DISCOURAGE people from buying that crap!! (I've been in retail paint for 12+ years now, at a busy/upscale independent hardware store) Why? 1) The solvent-based deglossers are VERY high in VOC-Vapors, & other fumes that many people should avoid. 2) Worse yet...it only provides a TEMPORARY benefit!! Whatever you can't get primed or painted in 30min, must be redone, because the "benefit" of the "temporarily tacky" surface is lost in that time-frame!! 3) So why in God's name would you expose yourself to those fumes, ESPECIALLY when the SLIGHT benefit of it LITERALLY EVAPORATES quickly? AND....it probably have to be repeated!!!! >>> The ACTUAL PHYSICAL PROFILE created by sanding is INFINITELY better than the temporary tackiness of LS. >>> All you need to do is an even, thorough "scuff-sanding", making the surface "evenly dull". >>> You DON'T have to sand all the way thru!!! >>> Remove ALL dust, and prime/paint away! >>> Sanding isn't HALF as hard as people make it out to be. >>> Plus...it's very "green". Little dust is created, & is easily handled with a good mask. >>> Do appropriate LEAD_TESTING in older homes. Also: Many primers "bonding-strength" to any substrate, & to the paint topcoats, improves over a week-or-two. Anybody doing a fingernail-scratch test clearly knows nothing about the properties of these types of coatings. Faron...See Morecindiw2
