The Kitchen Table

Cute little scrapbook project I did (pics)

I've been seeing these word books lately and have always wanted to make one. It starts out as just a cardboard colored book and you embellish it however you want.

I made this for my husbands cousin who just moved a few hours south to a house by the beach. I have pics to add but havent dont that yet.

They aren't weighted, but a stick of some sort, like a table knife could be attached to the inside and then the blade could be pushed into the ground. I've got lots of new things to post, but we had some problems with photo bucket yesterday. i'll try again tomorrow ! - Laura

Thanks for your post, J! You did it while IÂve been sitting here trying to figure out the whole lama/llama/lamasaries/monasteries conundrum! Not to mention the French/English translation! Ok, I got the translation, but from what IÂve found, a llamaÂthe spitting kindÂcan be spelled either way, depending on if youÂre talking about the genus of llama-type animals, or just one cute littleÂwell, make that cute bigÂllama. So you could both be right! Kinda! But IÂm still working on how specks turned into either lamas or llamasÂor monks! And now to you, Ms. Seedling Murderer! We need to get this fixed before somebody calls the cops on you! If your speck sprouts are falling over, they need more than misting. By now the root you canÂt see (no peeking) underneath the soil is 3 or 4 or 5 times as big as the part you can see above the soil, so they need to actually be watered when they get that dry. Since watering them from the top could disturb them (and you), fill a pan or bowl with water and sit the pot(s) in it until the surface of the soil looks wet, then take them out and let them drain really wellÂand get them back in the sun. I recommend you donÂt mist anymoreÂat least not enough to actually wet the surface of the soil. Two reasons. You could accidentally keep the soil too wet and they might damp off (lay down and die!), or, by keeping just the surface wet, you canÂt tell when the rest of the soil is drying out and you might have more things falling over because the soil down where the roots are trying to grow is too dry even tho the surface looks wet. I recommend watering them well whenever the top half inch or so is dry, and then donÂt water again till they dry out again. And gradually let it dry further and further down in the pot before watering. And, donÂt confuse me with monocot/dicot. IÂm already confused enough about the lamas/llamas! YouÂre still laughing at lamasaries, and IÂm still laughing at having a seedling murderer here! Do me a favor, J. Put a short post on the Fall Swap thread saying youÂre gonna try to make it. ThatÂs where IÂm picking up the names for my list, and that way others will see youÂre gonna come. And itÂll bump it back up to the top again too! ThereÂs not a whole lot of traffic around here these days, and I want to be sure everyone sees it. Thanks, Skybird

You know PM, the kids have LOTS of odd socks so they would be the best thing to use. I could see using buttons for eyes too, but I think Ill leave that up to them. I'm laughing over your 'sock story' ...they must have been real 'Eye catchers' !! LOl. If you do have lots of wild ankle socks...I can see so many cute characters being created from them... That would be a real fun project....make sure you share them when you do get started. Punk..since I have VERY limited supplies here, I'm not able to do too much in the way of craft projects with the Grkids...but while I was packing up some things to take here with me, I did remembers to bring the fabric patterns for the Christmas project. Seeing PMs sock bunny seems like an easy one to do w/o needing too many supplies and I already have leftover batting . I think it's great that your DS enjoyed making the quilt and also likes to cook. Having those 'survival skills' will always be handy throughout life...right? Lol jane

Wow, thanks for the information- I've never had that kind of luck with getting ModPodge to harden. You may very well be right-- it could be it was either too damp or not warm enough in the house. The nice thing about sealing over ModPodge or other glue products is that if you get enough layers over it, the decoupage has a sort of recessed/inlaid feel to it. If you get a chance, you can see a couple of the past decoupage projects I've got online: http://web.mac.com/thriftshopromantic/iWeb/The_Thrift_Shop_Romantic/Decoupage_Footstool_Purse.html http://web.mac.com/thriftshopromantic/iWeb/The_Thrift_Shop_Romantic/Greeting_Card_and_Lace_Guest_Tray.html I ended up doing these with Aleene's Craft Glue, and then a topcoat. But now you've got me thinking I just wasn't using the ModPodge under the right conditions! --Jenn

That's wonderful, Stephanie.

My sister did a Word book for me for Christmas, spelling out my name and then featured a few incidents from childhood. I love it! I'm sure your hubby's cousin will, too.

I bought the book already assembled spelling the word Beach. There aren't any directions for me to post a link to, I just embellished it all myself.

Here's a link to an ebay store for the company I bought it from. There's several companies that make them; they're actually called WordBloom's so you could Google it and find other options.

Here is a link that might be useful: WordBlooms

How cool....I hadn't seen these yet! Can you get them personalized? That is so cute Steph! You and your mom always have the cutest ideas! I am starting the paper bag ones like you made for Ricky...doing them for Mothers Day for the daycare moms. Now I may have to rethink this.....too cute!

Vikki, I found one company online that does custom ones but you have to fill out a form for a quote. I did it Friday and haven't heard back from them. I'll email you their link once they reply. I want to make sure they really do personalize them like they say before I give you their info. I want to get one with Grants name. They're so fun to do. Your moms would love them.

I think it would work doing the letter yourself on posterboard.

I think I'll make some for Easter for the kids to put their Easter pictures in.

I need something to do...these have been some dreary days here this past week...I feel the need to create...

Thanks for letting us see it Steph.

I've never seen a book like that before. I will have to show this to my niece who does scrapbooking.

Very nice Steph. I like the papers and embellishments you used.
