I have one more place I can try to put it up there, maybe I won't have to do anything to it after all. But tell me anyway, do you think I can decoupage this successfully?

Orrrrrr...... I could make a fabric "cozy" for it so that the piece over the door would open easily to allow access..... hmmmm. That's a thought.

Based on your room and what you'd set it aside for, I think I'd decoupage using sewing themed pics... Print outs of old sewing machine ads, or postcards showing people sewing or crafting on them. If you wanted to be truly amusing, you could even decoupage over a needle and thread or two here or there to further create the pattern. Would be quirky, anyway.

Jenn, that's a great idea, I would do that if I was sure I would be keeping it up in the sewing room..... I ran to Hobby Lobby and got some scrapbooking paper, red hibiscus with some olive green, tan, black. I think it'll look neat, I'll post a picture when it's done.

I may use your idea on a sewing box, though, because I really like it and your idea of a needle and thread just tickles me! Thanks so much!

How about one of those conversion kits that transforms your refrigerator into an old gas pump or a tool chest?

Fly- I had no idea what you were talking about so I googled it and saw two, one white, one blue. Discontinued kits, but cutes as the dickens! If I was putting it in the garage, that's what I'd for sure! (I only saw the gas pump one, it's really adorable.)

I think it came out well, much more interesting than plain, stark white.

Gosh, that turned out so quirky and fun. It's the Magnum PI of mini-fridges!

Decoupage never does cease to tickle me. It's amazing the stuff you can do with paper and other flattish things. Definitely if you do the sewing box it would be fun to see, as well.

You know what, you're so right. Once you start doing projects like this, it seems like you begin to see everything in new ways.

Do you use a clear polyurethane over your ModPodge, or do you just leave it as is? I've found it's sort of sticky on my projects, so I usually use a top coat.

Jenn, I didn't put anything over the Mod Podge and it dried really fast and hard, maybe because the wood stove is going and the house is very dry right now, even with all the rain we had. I did a wastebasket a few years ago, it came out REALLY cute, but that puppy was sticky for at least 6 months. I didn't know you could seal over it with another product, thanks for the tip.

Wow, thanks for the information- I've never had that kind of luck with getting ModPodge to harden. You may very well be right-- it could be it was either too damp or not warm enough in the house.

The nice thing about sealing over ModPodge or other glue products is that if you get enough layers over it, the decoupage has a sort of recessed/inlaid feel to it. If you get a chance, you can see a couple of the past decoupage projects I've got online:

I ended up doing these with Aleene's Craft Glue, and then a topcoat. But now you've got me thinking I just wasn't using the ModPodge under the right conditions!

Hey Flamey..how's things? Your fridge is SO cute! Just wanted to add-if you do want a protective finish on it and don't care to paint several coats on it..here's a hint: I painted my outdoor metal mailbox 9 years ago w/acrylics, then sprayed on a Matte finish coat. Dries super quick-did 3 coats and this year it has finally started to fade! This ole' Florida sunshine has finally taken it's toll, but I can't complain.

Hi Sharon! That's at great tip, if it'll hold up to FL sun, it should hold up to anything! 9 years, that's amazing. How are you doing? Don't see you much at the KT anymore.....
