Yes, I am sensitive to the sizing used on fabric. Ugh! Retagging???

I always wash everything before wearing. I just always wonder who might have handled or tried on the things i buy.

Yes, I don't know whose hands and what machines have touched them before going into the package. I will sometimes wear outer clothing before washing but never undergarments! Yeah, that news story was disgusting.

I watched that on the Today show - ick! They even stained them with some baby oil, and the stores still put them back on the shelves - Macy's and other "nicer" stores!

I buy my Hanes in bag at Wally World, lol! I do see some bags have been opened though, and I avoid those.

New clothing and other fabric items like sheets and towels, is not only saturated in sizing but a lot of it has pesticides in it. Of course it need to be washed. Some new clothing has extra dye in the fabric that comes out during the first wash. I can't stand breathing in those chemicals or the thought of having them against my skin.

A lot of people do not wear underwear and try on clothing in the dressing rooms. Uh yeah, I wash jeans and things before wearing.

Absolutely. "All" new items of clothing are washed before being worn, as are all new towels, dishes, etc. before being used.

When you say you wash everything, do you also have dry-clean-only clothes dry cleaned before you wear them? What about things like outerwear (mittens, coats, hats, scarves) and blazers, suits, wool slacks? Blankets and comforters? What about shoes that others have tried on?

I seen the program also, it was shocking! I always wash new things before wearing them. BUT what good is that when most items I have already tried on in the dressing rooms? Gross! I may never try clothing on again.

Wear I buy my undies, there is no returns on undies. I do wash them anyway as they are softer.

No - I buy undies in a sealed package - not too worried about them having been used nor who touched them during production. I'm also not sensitive to anything in the materials.

I usually don't wash or dryclean any other new clothes before wearing either unless it's something that is stiff or wrinkled that is best addressed by washing rather than ironing, etc.

I do wash my sheets before using - learned that the hard way early in the marriage when DH ended up with hives from some "fresh" sheets.

I'm not really paranoid about germs or much of anything else like that. I think I just don't have time to worry about that kind of thing.

Sherrmann, for me, you're right in calling out a difference. No, I don't wash or dry clean suits, blazers, outerwear, etc. as you mentioned. Good point. And for me, the reason I wash other things isn't so much because of germs, it's mostly because I like the feeling better after it's washed and also, if the clothing is going to shrink (pants, shirts), I want that to happen before I wear it.

If the clothing touchs my skin...it is washed! Sweaters/coats/jackets/etc I don't worry about.

I don't wash my new ones, but they come tightly rolled up with a piece of "tape" stuff around them. Usually 6 to a package at Walmart. This is one of the benefits of wearing 100% cotton granny panties. :-)

I even wash those rolled up in a package granny panties!!!

Local radio station did a story on this several weeks ago.
They were talking about a study that had been done where they tested a bunch of new clothing and it all showed traces of nasty stuff.....including feces and other body fluids!
Even those nicely rolled up granny panties were rolled up by someone and you don't know what they were doing just before your panties came down their line!

Several years ago while shopping at J.C.Penny's, we had a sales lady tell us that just a little while before....they had cleaned out a fitting room, picked up some clothing that had been left on the floor only to find some one had pooped on the clothes! Uck! What happened to those clothes?

Even those nicely rolled up granny panties were rolled up by someone and you don't know what they were doing just before your panties came down their line!

If I was that paranoid, I could never eat out (who touched my plate?)...never fly on a plane (who sat here before me?)...never go to church or to the store (who touched this handrail or picked up this can of green beans?

Yes I wash the new undies and yes undies can be returned. I have done that with some I did not wear. Reason I returned is that I bought two or more pair that were alike and after I washed one I decided I didn't like the fit enough to keep the others.

Oh yeah. Packaged or not. I wash everything except for light colored tops. Even those if they have a scent. Don't wash outerwear like jackets or apparel that has something between me and it.

YES, anything that touches the body. I have had 2 cases of ringworm that HAD to have come from new underwear I hadn't washed. It was the packaged stuff from WM-FOTL. There was no other way for ringworm to get where it was. I do wash towels and bed linens first also. If I buy thrift store stuff, I tear off the tags and into the washer it goes, jackets, etc. Figure I didn't pay that much for it and if it won't take the washer, then I don't need it. NOTE: any imbedded ads are NOT my doing!!!

I always wash any type of clothing, sheets, etc. I purchase as I am allergic to dyes and such. I would do so even if I weren't though. It's a cleanliness thing for me.

I try not to purchase anything that needs dry cleaning, although I do have it cleaned before wearing.

No, and not gonna start now. I'm still alive and the bugs haven't gotten me yet. Worked for years in a state hospital for the retarded years ago and had feces thrown on me and my clothes and survived.

I do wash sheets or pillow cases because I have broke out from the sizing in them or something.
