I found the owner and he's an idiot.
Comments (15)When I replied, I did note the current studies and projections for the Phoenix market. I also mentioned that we have taken a $75K reduction on our house since it was listed in Feb. So we'll see. I hope it was just a tactic. Yes, he has renters now, but it sat on the market vacant for 9 months! He's refinanced twice to get cash out, this last time was just for an extra $20K! This sale would give him an extra $90K tax free! If he waits much longer, he'll have to pay capital gains tax on his profits, and he has no garantee the value will go up anytime soon. Yes, we were firm on our price, only because it's our primary residence and if we got any less, we wouldn't be able to buy another -- it would be wiser to stay in our current house and ride out the market. This is not the same situation as the owner. Yes, there are TONS of houses on the market, but we're looking for a very specific floorplan that's hard to find in these old neighborhoods. Couple that with our very small search radius, there isn't much, and there aren't too many new ones that have come on the market in the last month. All of the others we've had interest in have gone under contract. So at this point, it looks like we'll rent and wait for the right one to fit our needs....See MoreDog owners, please read this!!
Comments (40)I am happy to report that Pip is finally HOME! He's still heavily medicated to dull the pain, but he is doing really well. He won't be able to walk or play for the next 2-3 weeks and we have to prevent him from licking his big 7 inch scar on his belly, but I am thrilled that he is finally recovering in the comfort of his own home surrounded by people that can love and care for him. nanny2a, so sorry to hear about Kimo. Our dog also bloated in front of our children and I know that it has been hard for them the last few days. oldbat2be, glad to hear your pup recovered from the bloat. Our kids were there too, which made the whole situation so much more stressful. It was hard for them to watch him convulsing and foam at the mouth. marti8a, that is crazy about your DD's dogs eating bumblebees! Are the dogs ok? Pip often chases bees and wasps -- I always thought it was sort of funny, but I guess I should stop him from doing it. desert, Garnacha is beautiful. Glad you read the article so you know now about bloat. Sorry I'm not able to respond to each and every one of you, but thanks so much for the well wishes and healing thoughts for Pip. As you can tell from my screen name, I'm his biggest fan. :)...See MoreWhy dont dog owners pick up the poop in the winter?
Comments (44)Sorry Acadiafun I misunderstood - I entirely missed your other post stating you were referring to your own yard specifically. I should make clear that I am speaking specifically of an urban environment with many dogs per day travelling by and deposits left on other people's property for them to clean up and/or in common areas like parks and terraces meant for everyone to use. Houses/yards very close together - literally only 8-10 ft alley- which means if someone has a noticeable bad odor emanating from their yard it really is more of a nuisance than if the houses were spread out. Certainly I know many fine dogs/owners who are conciencious, But of those who aren't - my neighbors small pine trees near the sidewalk 2 or 3 feet into her yard were killed by several years of dog pee - got progressively browner on the dog pee side until finally they removed. My raised bed in front last summer wasnt doing too well and I wasnt sure why until I saw what was going on (and got yelled at by someone for daring to ask that she move her dog). Im not sure WHAT I will do with that bed - once one starts they all do. At least 5 times a year if not more I have to spend considerable effort removing the stink from my shoes - and last summer tossed a pair of fav flip flops away because I just could not get the stench out. That is MY frame of reference. Cities/urban environments are all about users making compromises - one persons rights end where anothers begin. BTW If I need a life so do some others here who have posted myriad times on this same topic!...See MoreIrresponsible dog owners (long)
Comments (27)I'm sorry you're dealing with this and feel sorry for the dog, too. I would definitely keep calling animal control as needed. I am also dealing with a neighbor dog. It's a very sweet older golden retriever, but has always been allowed to roam out their back door when it potties or needs fresh air. (We just moved in here 7 months ago.) We are on a wooded cul de sac, and the dog doesn't go far from home, but it does come in our yard on occasion and I have picked up its poop a few times. The other day I was sitting on our front porch with my senior cat on my lap. (Kitty is only ever outside with me and doesn't leave our porch.) Neighbor dog comes up on to the porch - he had come through the back service door of our garage so I didn't see him approach. Dog started barking when he saw the cat, and chased the cat through the garage and up a tree. Poor kitty just had surgery last week on its side for tumor removal. The last thing he needed was to be chased and treed. It's been a few days since this happened and he is still really jumpy. People need to keep a handle on their pets, and if they can't or won't do that, they shouldn't have them. My cat should be able to sit on our own porch with me, but I guess those days are over, because I can't trust that the dog won't come onto our porch again....See More- 17 years ago
