What happens when you cross a pit bull and a porcupine?

These were posted on a family site yesterday. Apparently my brother in law's neighbor's dog caught up with a nocturnal trash thief, and this was the result:

Don't think that's possible with a pitbull nature!

Ouch! That's real love and sacrifice -- to endure that much protecting your owners trash!

I just take Bill's pictures and use photoshop to make the grout lines look more jiggy and jaggy, add a few scratches to his glass tile installations, then repost them as my own. No one's the wiser! Seriously, very seldom do I take progress pictures of installations. About the only time is if it's for a magazine article. I've never taken pics of finished installations for portfolio purposes, though. If there's a thread and I'm doing something regarding that topic, then I have been known to squeeze off a few shots to post, but I really don't think I post pics that often. Personally I think Michael Vick is a sociopath, and I live in Eagles country but am not a football fan. If a person can do what he did to living breathing animals, he deserves a way long time behind bars. . I'm sorry but I don't trust pit bulls either. I was surprised to read about Corgi's (Queens dogs) and collies being banned in Italy. That said I have a temperamental Dachshund who needs supervision. He adores cats, loves the dog he lives with, loves kids and people, but has issues with big dogs. It's in the breed but he came from iffy circumstances. Turned into a kill shelter because they had too many dogs. So he has issues, but I watch him carefully. It's the Napoleon complex plus his history. I try to socialize him all the time.

People bred the pit to be aggressive and now people are upset that they bite. Until laws get passed against the PEOPLE who breed and misuse them nothing will change. If pits are outlawed the idiots will find another big dog to make aggressive. Some people just love the idea of having a big dangerous dog and some sick people get off on watching them fight. I have rescued and euthanized 3 dogs for aggression. Two were pit bulls, one was a German shepherd and all had been abused. Two other equally abused German shepherds are the world's sweetest dogs and my pit girls are dolls. Every dog is different and you just can't lump them together by breed, which is what BSL does. They need to be evaluated as individuals and aggressive dogs do need to be removed and even that gets into that slippery slope of taking away our rights. Izzie, no dog attacks out of the blue. People may not know what the trigger is and we can't ask the dog. I use an animal communicator, something most people scorn. But something made that collie bite the little boy. What a pity it cost so dearly in harm to a child and death for a dog. livvysmom, if you or your children has a friend with one of the breeds who has been known to be aggressive and they do not keep the dog far from the children you should not go there. They are not being responsible and your child is not safe. I KNOW my dogs will not bite. When a child comes over they are not allowed near the child with the exception of 3 of my dogs who I know adore children and then only with supervision. My son was raised with my Dobermans, German shepherds and rescue dogs without incident, but not everyone is so fortunate. By the way, the worst bites I've gotten have been from those yappy little toy dogs. My Shih tzu/Yorkie is the most aggressive dog I've ever owned. Fortunately at only 12 pounds she doesn't do much damage and the big dogs just think she's funny.

My much loved brother is blind to the fact that he has a dangerous dog. He's blinded by how much he loves it, and refuses to see how frightening it is. Ziggy has bitten his mother in law, who required surgery afterwards. No one else has been injured simply because no one will visit. It's a rottie. He's been untrainable and isn't even allowed at the vet any more. On the other side, I had a friend who had a gentle giant of a Rottie. My biggest problem witb him was all of the slobber, lol. One day, Thor was standing at the back patio door and whining, every muscle at alert. Steve went to see what he was upset about...he lived in a rural location and who knows what could be out there! It was a kitten. It was on the porch, rubbing back and forth on the glass right where Thor was standing! Steve opened the door and that kitten ran in and that was that! Thor adopted the kitten right then and there....or was it vice versa? Anyway, those two were inseperable from then on. That cat even went on walks with them, scampering all over the place, teasing the dog because it was on a leash and couldn't chase him. You should have seen them sleep together.

I've seen coon hounds get into a porky and its a real job pulling quills, we used to carry a syringe full of??? to quiet the dog for the operation, just in case. Never saw one get it that bad tho! Just when you think you have a smart hound, he does the porky thing over and over again!

That is a Bull Terrier.

Like "Spuds McKenzie" for those who are old enough to remember the commercials.

pit bull is a type of bull terrier...

I really feel bad for that poor guy... I am wincing in sympathy pains.

From what I'm told, he's fine now-- those pics were taken last fall. But I'm told this dog DID learn his lesson. He sees a porcupine and SCATS in the other direction, howling like he's just been beaten!

joepyeweed - The Bull Terrier is one of my favorite breeds! The Pit Bull is not a type of Bull Terrier. The Bull Terrier was the crossing of the Bulldog, Old (AKA Whiite) English Terrier (now extinct) and a bit of Spanish Pointer Blood. In 1830!!

The Pit Bull was derived from a variety of Bull and Terrier type dogs. It is note exactly known of which ones.

Most breeds have come to be through the combination of other breeds. Take the Doberman for example, he is the combination of German Pinschers, Rottweilers, Beauceron, Pinschers, Greyhounds, English Greyhounds and Great Danes! In the 1860's! Today, in the year 2007, you would never hear someone say the Doberman is a type of Great Dane or Grey Hound. They are a stand alone breed far removed from their origins.

The same stands for the Pit Bull.

It is easy to see that it is a Bull Terrier.

The egg shaped head, the ears and the body are all different than a Pitbulls. The ears and head are much longer than a Pits and the body isn't as powerful.

Bull Terriers may be dog aggressive as most terriers are, but they are never people aggressive and have been bred for companionship for many, many years.

Of course, even if it was a Pitbull, it is wrong to think it deserved such pain for doing what it was bred to do.

That's quite a picture. Poor dog... glad it's all over with. Just wondering where the "debate" part of this post is... where is the question that we are supposed to take sides on or give opinions of? I must have missed something. I didn't think I was THAT dense!
