Need Gift Idea

I need to buy a Birthday Gift for a 2 year old girl. I don't have kids, so I don't know what's cool. Any ideas other than clothing?

We got a few really good gifts this year for my 15 month old daughter and 19 month old neice. A really cute leopard print pilot case from Lillian Vernon, and the Little Touch LeapPad. It's like an interactive book with drool proof and tear resistant pages. So far it's been really enjoyed! Good luck! Christy

I would just go to the store and see what they have for girls in that age range. There are so many things out there, you can spend hours, if not days, trying to find something specific while not even knowing if she wants it or already has it.

Make sure that the toy is age appropriate though...many toys are for age 3 and up due to choking hazards, so make sure the toy you pick is ok for a 2 year old/24 month old (but don't buy a baby toy).

I would also suggest you get and give a gift receipt in case they need to return it.

Bath toys, books, playdough sets are some ideas. And, "Dora the Exployer" stuff is pretty popular now, although she may still be a little young for Dora. "Fisher-Price Sweet Sounds Home" is another idea, or how about a DVD? What is your price range?

How about some American Express gift cards, they can be used anywhere. We used to do that as a class gift for a teacher. I am originally from AZ, and I havent been to Casa Grande since there wasnt anything there but the ruins! of course that info not so helpful. anyhoo brought back fun memories.

In response to the accountant remark, its not the IRS, its the state and not an income tax audit. I have paid a CPA $11k to do a forensic audit on me and according to them the state owes me $4k. This state is going after anything they can get so they won't have a shortfall. They hired 49 new auditors for this. It was a sales tax audit. I was told 20 years ago not to tax on vehicles by the DMV because I an not a dealer. They were wrong. I have to pay the sales tax on all the cars I have sold through my business. I have 11 people I know going through the same thing. The reason it has taken 3 years is they kept asking for extensions because they are short handed. So thanks but no thanks for your smart a$s comments, you have no clue what you are talking about.

when My Daddy's family found a sister that had been sold when she was 3, I made up a small photo album that had the only picture of her family when they were all babies. then added a hand-scribbled-pedigree-tree showing how she was tied to my Daddy (her Half-brother) and "the original five", then added a hand-scribbled-family-map with Daddy's halfs from his Mama's second family. then pictures of those directly related to her, and then Mama & Daddy's brood. Not knowing her age, country of origin, or tastes, it becomes difficult to suggest things. I'm thinking that something Americana that would not be available in her country, or maybe something to remind her of her visit to this country. An 'el cheapo' would be a wall calendar with American scenes or early day farm equipment. If you have a good photographer in your family, make well done prints of items such as covered bridges, light houses, water mills, and log houses. You could make photos of historical artifacts such as the Wright Brother's airplane. A replica is in the musuem at Kitty Hawk. Also there is the sewing machine used to fabricate the cloth panels. If her country made a contribution to the early formation of this country, photograph items associated with that event. Some of the monuments are not well known and pretty mcuh forgotten by our general public. For example, if your student was German, you might photograph the monument to Baron DeKalb and include a short history of his contribution during the Revolutionary war. Look him up in the World Book Encyclopedia. It will tell you about Baron DeKalb and where his monument is located. Also note that DeKalb, IL is named after this man. If your student was French, photogaph items asociated with Laffette. Laffette spent the winter with George Washington at Valley Forge. There are a number of places in the US that carry a French name. Laffette, IN is one of those; Fort Sackville, now Vincennes, IN, is another, and of course, there is New Orleans. In 1884, the French people presented the Statue of Liberty to the New United States.

Books (some they can "read"...so durrable, some to be read to them..where the wild things are, when you give a mouse a cookie series, those types of books), Little People sets, Chairs that are their size, Game I think it's called Elefant (Butterflies fly out of an elephants nose, I think it's for 2 years and up, but I could be wrong, could be for 3 and up).

I say get books for the parent to read to the child. Nice books that they will have for a long time. Two of these would be a great gift. The kid might not jump for joy, but as a parent I would love this. Most kids don't need any toys. My nearly two year olds favorite toys are coloring books, electric toothbrushes and purses.

I usually give books. There is a book I love called Owl Babies (Waddell). You can get it on Amazon. Amazon also has stuffed animals, and you could give the book with a stuffed owl.
