How about a pot roast, cooked in beef broth with some red wine? Add carrots, onions, and potatoes after about three or four hours of 'braising'. Use the liquid to make your gravy, in the same electric frying pan.

You can certainly braise in it.

An electric frying pan has the heating coils on the bottom for browning. Things could stick and scorch if you left an item in it for a long time without moving it around. Crock pots and electric roasters have the coils around the sides transferring heat to the center. This is why you can bake a cake in a Nesco roaster. This is why you can make soup in a crock pot and leave it there all day without stirring and it won't scorch on the bottom.

I would suggest browning the meat in the electric frying pan first, and then deglaze with wine, (an option) and then add a bit of water or broth. Then cover it to braise until done. You can remove the cover towards the end of cooking time to reduce the liquid.

If you want your food to be baked you should place the item on a rack to elevate it from directly touching the bottom where the coils are. The electric frying pan may have come with one. You can pic up a small rack at any store selling kitchen cooking items.

According to the link below, you can brown it a bit in a little oil, and then add water and cover and simmer.

I imagine you could leave the oil and browning out of it, and still roast it in a little water or else some chicken broth, watching to add more as necessary.

Have you considered getting a portable burner, maybe an induction? You could still use it after, such as for parties where you need to keep something hot.

When I was without my kitchen for a week during a remodeling project, I brought my electric frying pan out to the patio and plugged it in out there. I made fryed chicken, hamburgers, and pancakes on it. Not all at once.

Two of my favorites in an electric skillet: beef stroganoff and swiss steak!

I once had an electric frying pan with a dome type lid.It was a wedding gift,50 years ago.Wish I could find another one like it.Anyway,I cooked everything in it.The lid was tall enough that I could cook a whole chicken or a roast.When cooking something like that for a long period of time I would brown it first in a little oil(as for a roast) place a rack of some kind in the bottom and put the item to be cooked on the rack.My skillet was a big one and square shaped.I had a cake/cookie cooling rack that just fit and had little legs about 1/2 inch high on it.Worked perfectly.Just be sure there's enough liquid to keep from cooking dry.Turn the temperature to whatever you need,cover and let it go.You could also cover the pan with foil then put the lid on to make a tighter seal.You could even wrap the meat in heavy foil and cook it that way.You wouldn't have the juice in the pan but it will work.

I use mine for stew, frying chicken, pancakes. I should use it for stroganoff, but just never thought of it!

I have over 100 pieces of cast iron, but my favorite for frying chicken is my electric skillet. Actually, I have several of them. I buy every good one I find at yard sales.
I only buy the kind that aren't coated with that no stick stuff.

I've made cornbread in one, and then used it to make chicken and dressing.

They do fry up the best chicken, pancakes and french toast. I have two and they do not have the no stick stuff in them.

Not a big fan of electric fry pans--had 2 of them given to me over the years, and ditched them both. However, it will be a help to have one while you're 'kitchenless'.

However, don't forget, you can bake/roast in your grill. I've done any number of roasted meats in mine. And I've baked: pizza, yeast bread, cakes, cornbread, biscuits, muffins, etc in the grill. Mainly because I can't see the point of turning on the oven when I've got the grill going for something else. It's not any problem to bake or roast in the grill.

With a grill with side burner, you are all set! Your menu, however, will be picnic fare, but that can be very good! You can do hamburgers, bratwurst, weiners, and roast corn-on-the-cob. You can make a pot of chili or pot roast on the side burner.

used to use mine all the time, but really havn't in ages...but what about breakfast for dinner? burgers, stirfry, heat up soup....

just remember at one point you'll be doing dishes in the craziest places, deep sink or bathroom....happy remodel!

Last night I just made pancakes, they actually came out better than when I do them on the stove top.

It's going to be cold here the next couple of days, so will be breaking out the crockpot for chicken and rice tonight, and chile tomorrow.

I still keep finding myself walking into the kitchen to go to the fridge or get the cat food, funny. I'm sure it will get easier, it's just such a hassle!! LOL!! But it will be worth it in the end.

I love me electric skillet, and cook more in it than anything. It is so predictable. And probably unlike most,
I put mine in the dishwasher! My first one lasted over 20 years, and my latest is going on about 12 years...so proof that it does not hurt to wash them in the dishwasher!
