unique Christmas pic ideas for cards?

I'm ready to start snapping shots of my 11 month old for Christmas cards. So far, I've come up with putting a big wrapped box with a huge bow on the front where she can sit or stand in it in front of the Christmas tree.

What are some other things I can do to capture a unique, not just standing or sitting in front of the tree, look?

I thought about her sitting on a rocking horse in front of the tree as well.

I need ideas!!

Just let your child do whatever he or she wants to with the tree. Just start snapping pictures! Some will turn out great and then you can get copies. I have tried this before and I end up loving about 10 of them! Good luck and merry christmas.

Here are a couple of thoughts...

Have her in a diaper wrapped in lights...
or
take her to the snow, in front of the fireplace...

With the exception of Vikki's card which came ages ago, all the cards were in today's mail. What a treat! They make a cheerful addition to the card display and my DB will surely have something to say about the new magnets on the fridge. The stickers were immediately useful with some last minute cards I wrote tonight and the sparkly ornament was a very nice thought. Thank you all so much. Re the "packaged" picture frame. I got the idea from an office decorating contest we had at work. The contest was not so much the quality of the decorating, but which one looked the most "Christmasy". The winners had decorated every single item in their office, including stuff on the walls. They covered the art work with gift wrap and bow, and that was my inspiration. (mine is actually a picture of some lilies). luvs, re the opened package, LOL! The gift was from a friend who wanted to see me open it!

Last yr. I made my g'kids calendars with pics of them & our activities tog from the year...but instead of just doing a pic, I printed off "coloring sheets" ... you can do this in some software programs ...and then I took it to a copyshop where I had the plastic circular spinal binding put on...think it was like $3 each or something like that. Anyway, the "coloring-book pics" are kind of funny cause they turn cartoonish...& the kids enjoyed looking at them...as well as the adults. Just an idea...you have a good one, too...altho I don't know if the 4 yr or 7 yr can appreciate how good your idea is! Time flies for us it seems but 2-l/2 wks. until Christmas is an ungodly amt. of time for my 9 yr. old GS! Of if my 12 yr old GD had a $25 shopping spree coming in May, I don't think she could stand the wait! Good luck with your project! Jeanne S. bleigh - That's a little harsh, don't you think? lyban - Thank you for the kind words, and understanding. You hit the nail on the head! I was most surprised with my sons reaction. He is the one who never plans to return back to our hometown. He only spent his first summer away at home, and has only been back for holidays ever since. My first born, on the other hand, will not think about dating anyone that does not have roots where we are. She is not spoiled (or a BRAT), but definitely a homebody, and much loved! work_in_progress_08 - You are correct. I thought about that last night. I will change the card to The Smith Family and Riley. beekeeperswife - We have friends who send a doggy card every year. They have no children. whitdobe - I see your point, too. I like to see the names pre-printed for that very same reason. Funny story... my mother once received a Get Well card from someone. She could not read the signature. Thought it said from The Chair. She was racking her brain trying to figure out who the "Chair" was. One day, she mentioned the card to a friend. The friend started laughing and said the card was sent from the CHOIR at church, that my mother sang with. lol I showed the cards to my DH last night and asked him which he liked the best. First off, he said "I like the one with Riley, but who in the heck are Victor and Susan Smith?" LOL When he looked at the other card, he said, "why would we send that generic card?" He did not even recognize his own front door. I am surprised he even recognized the dog... MEN!

I'd like to suggest taking a picture of the entire family instead of just your daughter for the Christmas cards. It'll mean a whole lot more in the years to come. I was looking through the photo album that my in-laws kept for their kids this weekend. FIL took pictures of the 3 kids and put them in the album every year, but there are no family pictures. It just seems like the missing years without everyone in there. In some cases, those are the only pictures of the family during those years that the relatives and other close friends have.

You can still do a really cute picture with the whole family. Last year was our son's 1st Christmas. We did the basic pose standing in front of the tree. My husband and I wore Santa hats. My son wore reindeer antlers. The picture that we ultimately used for the Christmas cards is priceless. We got lots of compliments on that picture.

This year, we're going to pose in front of either the state capitol or one of the downtown Christmas light displays. If ds cooperates, we are all wearing Santa hats.

A suggested cute pose for daughter only is Baby New Year. Last year we posed ds up in front of the tv while we were watching the ball drop. Ds was nude, but the picture would have looked cute with him in a diaper. We used a beer bottle as a prop, but if you have the fancy bottle of grape juice or something else nonalcoholic, that would look cute also. We emailed the picture out to close family and friends as a New Year Greeting. We put a picture in ds's baby book for posterity.

I saw a really cute idea in Sunset magazine a few years ago. A woman had cut out huge letters out of colored tag board to spell out.. Merry Christmas- or maybe it was Joy. I'd pick Joy, since it's SO much easier. :) then she snapped a pic of her child holding each letter. (this would work even better with multiple kids)
I believe she took each snapshot, cropped it down to just the child and the letter, reduced it on a copy machine,and lined them up together so it spelled out merry christmas on the front of the card.
I think we may try Joy this year, with DH and I each holding one of the letters ourselves.(since we're part of the family too!) :)
