I think it would be fine. I can get very cold in deep winter and have always used a heated mattress pad which sometimes is on high all night. I also have 2 blankets and a heavy fake fur throw on top of me. I have at times thought about getting an electric blanket too but I don't like feeling wires with my toes when I've used them in the past. I like the house to be quite cold at night, 60 is nice. Then I can turn the fire on in the morning and that is cozy.

Again, a senior apartment house (rental) is unlikely to let you install anything that requires installations. drilling, modifications, etc. If you are talking about a condo that she owns, that's different. But in a place with a dining room and housekeeping staff, no. The problem that residents usually have in their units is rarely like described above,, but petty opportunistic theft of cash or small items like jewelry, usually by a staff member with access to keys. One complex that a client of mine lived in had an assistant manager who stole drugs when residents were away. Caught and prosecuted. And some residents are notoriously gossipy and paranoid. My mother was terrified after she learned that a resident's car got broken into. She had no car, lived on the third floor of a security building, but she and her friends were all checking the locks on their apartment doors 20 times a day. Another client hid money all the time. When she was moved into a nursing home, her grand daughter found several hundred dollars stashed in small bills in various pockets and purses and books and all sorts of places. Of course, she never had any cash, she said, when I visited her. I think the best solution is to convince her to limit the amount of cash she keeps in her apartment, and come up with a good place to stash it.

Hi Kathy, you signed off after my comment so it appears that I offended you, although it was not my intention. I am always defending other posters who receive rude comments about their home or taste so to offend someone else is not in my nature. I will say that if one chooses to post here, they do open themselves up to opinions that they may not agree with and maybe thicker skin is something to think about? I will explain myself further, my comment was out of legitimate concern for your daughter. My experience was with my 19 yr old niece who is a freshman in college this year. She is sharing a bathroom with strange girls for the first time and they can be brutal when someone does anything slightly different. My niece clogged the toilet during the first week of school and she is still hearing the names and mean comments. Girls that age call each other out and form cliques over the smallest things, when in fact they should be supporting one another. Anyway, just wanted to explain as I probably should have done initially.

As someone who has done this before, I’d recommend hiring it out, because it can be dangerous. However, if you insist on diy: get tarps, tape the mirror with masking tape (regular tan tape is fine), wear eye protection and heavy duty gloves. Try prying behind the edges slowly with a pry bar. Sometimes it pops off in one piece. Sometimes it shatters. I’d start at the bottom, because you don’t want the top shattering and falling on you. If you can get behind it with a wire, that will work, but if it goes to the ceiling it may not be possible. Did I mention calling a pro? That’s what I would do.
