Okay. I'm in the same boat. My daughter is almost 3 and has been in a twin bed for 3 months. There are nights that she does pretty well with staying in bed. I assume it's from being so tired. And there are nights when I have to go back in about 2 or 3 times within the hour. But, last night was the worst. I don't think she slept at all. We did the usual routine - bath, stories, prayer, lights out (except for night light). I won't leave the door open at all cuz I know she will come out for sure. Usually she will get up and just sit against the wall next to her door and cry. Then, I or my husband will go in and put her back in bed. We usually ask if something scared or or ask what is wrong. She never answers. But, last night was a lot different. Last night my husband went in and put her back in bed. He left her room and she was quiet. That was around 8:15. Then around 9:30 I went in to check on her and couldn't get her door open. She had gotten back out of bed and sat against the wall next to her door and fell asleep sitting up. Her legs were blocking the door. I had to use the door to nudge her awake so that I could get her back in bed. After that she was up all night and so was I. She would not stay in bed at all. I tried making her a pallet on the floor in my room and she just lied there for over an hour eyes wide open. So, I put her back in her bed. She asked for the door to be left open. I agreed but told her she has to stay in bed or the door will be closed. This time I left the door open just a crack. I don't know what time she got up next I just know she did. I don't even know exactly how many times she got out of bed. I stopped counting and stopped looking at the clock. Until about 4:30 this morning. I had enough. I grabbed her and put her back in bed without a word from my mouth. I was livid. Then around 6:15 I went in to wake her to get her ready for the sitter. She was so exhausted and wouldn't let me put her down. I don't know what else to do to get her to stay in bed. I've tried the treats. That worked for about 2 weeks. I don't want her losing sleep like that anymore. And I can't afford to lose it either. I'm an insulin dependent diabetic and loss of sleep makes my sugars spike very high the next day. What else can I do?

Typed out a long post yesterday and then lost it! Ugh! Anyway, to summarize: 1. Consider getting neutral bedding and adding in your jungle theme with accessories like just the pillows and removable decal. That way, if your son just LOVES something else down the road, you can easily change it with the pillows and other minor accessories. 2. Your son's bed looks a little high-- though I have short kids, so maybe not for him. There are really cute stepstools with a jungle theme-- some are mass produced (check Target and Amazon) but you can also find them on Etsy. 3. Since you are open to removing the TV, I'd say not to put art supplies in there since I find bedrooms not to be the best place for that with young kids. (Depends on your child, though.) You could have baskets of books and open-ended toys. A radio/CD player is always nice, too. Could be a fun dance space! 4. I'd either lower the white shelves if they are for your son-- they do not look to be at a child's eye level, OR keep them up high but use them for breakable items. It's a good idea to literally get down at his level and see how accessible things are, what his view is, etc. Hang things for HIM, not for adults. VERY cute room!

It appears you have all the necessary pieces. It will be most of a year until safety is an issue. I worry about things like cords on your blinds,we went with a roller shade made of the same material as the valance. Old school but safe. I wanted a very colorful bright cheery nursery. A valance on the window and some color on the walls--art,I had a cross stitched alphabet sampler on the wall shelves would be nice for those things you do not want a toddler to reach. You will be given a few baby items that are not really for baby to touch. We went with shelves attached to the wall high--not a book case that could be pulled over if you have a climber. Above the changing table I had a cloth noah's ark. As my kids got older and "bored" with the diaper changing I could grab an animal off the wall (they were Velcro'd on ) and they would inspect said animal, we would talk animal noises..--I am a speech therapist so a language rich environment was second nature to me. Easy clean up a must--thus when done the animal could be popped back in his place on the wall. A dimmer on the light switch makes night changing and feedings calm and subdued. My babies were never JARRED awake by lights coming on and went quickly back to sleep after their tummys were full. We never left the nursery, kept them quiet and calm, rocked right there as they ate. Not needed now but we too had little space. Instead of a toy box we walled in the bottom of the closet, instant toy 'box'. When the closet door was open our kids could crawl/toddle right up to the toys and clean up was easy just throw them all in the bottom of the closet. Your small nightstand/book shelf is a climbing opportunity. I would store it until your child goes into a big boy bed and needs a nightstand. I love your rug and the fact that I see no lamps. Miscellaneous cords are a no no. It sounds like you are discovering that baby comes with an ABUNDANCE of STUFF. Clutter is an issue. It gets worse before it gets better--but it will!! High chairs,swings, bouncy chairs. I would not sweat the decor you will have other priorities for awhile.
