Shower Registry.. What would you change?

I am just curious, if you could register all over again now that you've had your baby, what things would you add and what did you get that you didn't need?

I would have registered for a million diapers in all different sizes and a convertable carseat because my son is growing WAY faster than anticipated.

It is considered very rude to "register" for things for a shower. It's like saying "Have a party for me and these are the gifts I want you to bring."
What's next? Kids registering for graduationb gifts?

I never heard it was rude to register for things for showers. I thought it was just rude to put where you are registered on the invitation.

Registries have been around forever...how else will someone know what china pattern you picked, or what color towel you prefer? How will people know if you are breast or bottle feeding, etc. You don't have to use them, but registries are made to be helpful.

Personally, I wouldn't have registered for so much newborn clothes or the expensive bedding especially since nowadays so many docs are saying not to use the comforter at all and to only use the bumper pads for a couple months...so you're paying really big bucks for a sheet. I think there is a lot of waste with decorating a room too.

Yes! My Aunt ran the curtain up to the ceiling and to the floor, it really changes the look of the bathroom. She did black velvet curtains with a clear liner it looks really really good.

My kids are now 16 and 18,in those days a baby shower wasn't something you "registered". People threw showers and gave whatever they wanted. I know I got a lot of cutesy baby outfits. I wished I had more of those "onesies " , those one-piece long T shirts with snap bottoms. They were great for holding diapers on those tiny babies! Some of the outfits never even got worn, babies grow so fast. What's the point, newborn size,three month size, six month size?

What would you change (or not change) about your walk in pantry?

I don't have a walk-in but I love having a spot on the wall in my pantry (a plug) to hang my little dyson stick vac. The rest of my cleaning items (steamer, vacuum, brooms etc) are in a place a little more remote but it's handy having the vac hanging on the charger since that's the one I use at least every day. I would also keep a convenient spot for my step ladder, even though I'm not exactly short, it's still handy to have near the kitchen. My current house is an old farm house [it completely lacks storage] so the few little closets I do have end up storing lots of random stuff so I have drawer for batteries, flashlights, extension cords, tape, random household tools/nails (so I don't have to go out to the detached garage to hang a picture or change the batteries in a kid's toy.) Not saying that is ideal persay, but depending on your situation and floorplan just something to consider. Oldbat's pantry is gorgeous, but I think I'd go insane when nothing was ever put back in it's proper spot! LOL perhaps it's just easier on my anxiety to just have it a free for all to begin with!

Penny, your comment about receiving nice soap as a lovely gift reminded me of a quirky story. My mom is a dear. She is youngest child of 11 of elderly parents. She is one of two girls, the oldest and the youngest were females. Many of her siblings were not born in the US but were born in Poland. Lots of depression era mental quirkiness especially around gifts food money. One year my brother’s mother in law was visiting for the Christmas holiday. She lived in Osaka and neither my parents or other siblings had ever met her so we were all discussing gift ideas for Christmas. We had to consider weight and pack ability due to her return flight home. Suggestion after suggestion was shot down by my mother but the funniest of all was her reaction to a nice set of scented soaps. “Soap! You can’t give someone soap. That is like saying they smell and they are dirty” Now in actuality immigrants were given soap because they were considered dirty, lice infested, and smelly. So I know why my mom had the reaction she had. However I really think soap is such a lovely gift., alas I was not able to convince her.

I love registries. As of late, all of my friends are getting married or having babies. I can shop for things I'd think they'd want, but I'd rather get them something that THEY want! It's like writing a Christmas List. My father in law tells us every year, NO LIST, NO PRESENTS!!!

I hate them, I think they make the person seem grasping and greedy. What would I change, I'd do away with them entirely.
