What color should I paint my front door?
Comments (42)OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! Thank you, all of you!!!! My son borrowed my computer for the evening, so I missed the spectacular unfolding of all of those door colors. I absolutely LOVE looking at the different colors. Each one changes the whole look of the house so much. What a wonderful resource you all are. I am humbled, thank you. At first glance I am loving the plummy-grey brown. It satisfies my urge for a red door, while incorporating the beige of the house and the brown shutters AND the grey roof. Brilliant. Oakleyok, you suggested a wreath. Great minds! I had a lovely spring wreath on the door, but the birds decided they wanted to use it for nesting material. We were treated to a constant scrabbling noise as they tried to remove the twigs from the wreath -- so I had to temporarily take it down. Right now it's hanging on the INSIDE of the door. Thanks again, everyone! I will tell you what we decide, and then post more photos later. -- Maureen...See MoreShould I keep my current backsplash?
Comments (17)Hi Chocolatebunny, I like the backsplash. I think it looks simple and lovely. I have the same simple white sq tile backsplash. And my granite counters were installed right up to them. I kept the backsplash because I could not find something I liked better. I thought about white subway but then my DH said. "Won't that be too similar to what you already have?" And so I kept the sq white. And 1 year later I am so glad I did. I like it. Granite or Quartz or Corian or even laminate can go right next to the old backsplash. And with new counters you won't even notice the backsplash. It will be simple skirt with the beautiful blouse. The simple side dish to the rich meal. I know there might be issues of height and having to cut. But this is what we did. We put plywood on top of the cabinets. It was a support system for the upgraded counters and it brought the level of the granite up to the space we wanted on the BS. I had ugly thick white tile with white grout before so there was a thick backing but still not high enough to meet the BS. There are many things you can do. I wanted to raise my counters as I am fairly tall and like it up 1/2 inch higher. Have you visited Dupont's site? Not to buy Corian or Quartz or even granite but to see the different colors available and how they match up to similar cab colors. I loved this little tool to play with while I searched for what I wanted in my own kitchen. I think an exotic granite might be different than your neighbors. Something with movement and yes leather them or honed the surface and get some fun. And lastly what about white Marble. Marble would look yummy with your cabinets. And white would match those tiles and go with any color. ~boxer A granite with great movement Copper Canyon Golden River Honed Granite with beautiful movement Eco Counters with great colors and this is NOT granite. Quartz white and pretty Copper might be a fun different counter... Marble...See MoreShould I paint my island and if so what color?
Comments (20)so the prefabs are pre cut in 9' (some are 6' or 8') lengths and kitchen counter depth...24" or so, I believe. they also have island sizes at 3x5 or 4x6' sizes, and the edges are simply finished. here's a close up of some,,, this is Python (click on the pick and you'll get to see the finished edge) they also have quartz (a little bit more. maybe 500 or so this was at a different stone yard and these are rounded edges. more quartz the fabricator brings them to the residence and cuts the holes for sinks or stove tops. some fabricators my come out and template your kitchen before hand if they have to cut for an L shape. Once at the home, they install them just like they would any other granite. just as an example, this was a kitchen we did for a rental about 7 years ago. the L shaped perimeter countertop and the island were all pre-fab granite. for the granite alone, I paid 700 or so? maybe less? i can't remember. and then had the guy come out and cut it to fit was another 1000 or so. so the granite for that entire kitchen came less than 1800 or so. it was very nice granite, nothing wrong w/it and the fabricator did a great job w/the cuts and the seaming. these are cheaper than slabs because they come pre-fabbed and are limited in types and colors. They still have plenty to choose from though. I live in SoCal so there are hundreds of stone yards and tile places around here. Depending on where you live, you may have this, or you may not....See MoreHow should I decorate? what color should I paint?
Comments (48)When I saw the kitchen, I had an immediate different thought than I see here. Is that formica? If so, I would replace it with new formica in a different color... This is not a major job, evidently. It comes with the backsplash and everything. You just order the length you need. Grey (as in one of the photos upthread)? Navy? Black? With the teal blue chairs, one or more of these colors on a countertop would be striking....See MoreUser
