Is there a way to undermount sink so it can come out later on??

I know this is probably a silly question. But since things have evolved so far in kitchen design, I'm wondering if there is a way to install my undermount sink with a way to replace it should something happen?

Are there bar supports, clips or anything wooden you could use to make this happen? Our sink is being installed by the fabricator so I guess it can't be anything too tedious. And DH is not the most handy.... :)

Not a silly question - there is a very recent thread that talks about this -
there are a couple of systems available for your Fabricator to use - one
of them is the "Sink Setter" another is called the "UnderCounter Mounter"-
they both will do what you are looking for - at a reasonable price....

Available at Braxton Bragg and/or GranQuartz

I used angle iron; it can be unscrewed and slid over to let the sink come out. Similar to the products above mentioned. If you ask me what the angle iron screws into, I'll say "flat bar" but then you'll ask me how I got the flat bar into place. I put it there before the counters, on top of the cabinets. I drilled holes in it. Instead of buying a product, I made my own removable support. If you aren't sure what angle iron is, search using this term : "angle+iron"

Not to disagree. I'd like to know if anyone can confirm or refute this info: I received advice from a granite supplier that the adhesives they use to install the sinks are so strong that the granite often breaks when the sink is removed. I don't know if that's true or not, but he told me that the kitchen sink was one of the most important choices to get right the first time because the countertop often has to be changed in order to change the undermount sink. Does anyone have any actual experience with changing an undermount sink, because I don't. I'm about to choose a sink and a countertop, and that information would be extremely helpful to me, as well.

They both look and sound like nice faucets. It depends on if you want or like the really tall ones. I don't care for the tall ones - but I'm short and that might be why. the reach part makes a difference where the water falls into the sink. I stood in front of my sink and put my hands out as if to wash them or clean veggies. This showed me about where I needed the spout hght to me. A low one would put it about where my hands would be, so I want it to be a bit higher - like 8-9" up from counter level. I also don't want the reach part to close to the back side of the sink either - that would cause me to have to reach to far in to put my hands under the water. try something like that with your sink and see where it's comfortable to you.

Can you replace a drop-in sink with an undermount sink (granite)?

Yes, I understand that the edges of the granite would need to be done. But I think that is a relatively minor issue. From what I've googled, it seems that the cutout for a drop-in sink is usually larger than for an undermount sink, so it is/may not be possible to put in an undermount sink if you already have a drop-in sink. I'm trying to figure out if/how I can figure out how big my cutout is in the granite for the drop-in sink without removing the sink. Then I might be able to figure out whether the cutout is too big for my new sink. The other thought I had was if the counter is already in place, how do you get the undermount sink in place? It would have to go through the cabinet, right? My cabinets have a wood piece (?frame) running between the double doors, so I'm pretty sure the sink wouldn't fit in that way. I think I'm answering my own question, but I'm hoping that there is a way that's not too complicated to accomplish this.

I replace sinks for a living and have yet to pull a countertop to replace a sink except in solid surface. You tap the cabinet front off, change the sink, and put it back on. I've done it twenty times. Did it the day before yesterday. For easiest sink changes, insist that your fabricator strap, not insert fasten, your sink in place with a Hercules Universal Sink Harness (Braxton Bragg) or a Sink Strap (Regent Stone Products) or two. Two easily accessible bolts instead of 12 inaccessible ones. I'd change a strapped apron undermount in a hour at most. Make sure he puts a nice radius at your sink cut-out too, 3/8" minimum. No pencil edge, please.

Kevin, do you know if these things are able to be used with a silgranit (or other granite composite sink)? Without damaging the sink?

This sounds like a perfect option for us... if it works with silgranit!!
