Up to what age are we cutting the physical argument off at? My sister has been banging heads with me to this day. In my 20's I removed her from my space - she nearly lost a finger nail that time. Does that count?

I'm sure I did. I can't imagine growing up with a sibling and not getting into 'it'. And then our parents would intervene and put us each in our perspective 'corners'. Then things would be fine until the next spat.

Isn't it interesting though how times have changed. I wish we could go back to those days. I think 'younguns' would be so much better off if parents, teachers, etc., were allowed to punish kids without the risk of being labeled an abuser!

Sure, my sister and I fought. We were so different. My children never did fight--people would notice it. DD#1 is 17 mos older than DS and they always played together well. Little sis came along when they were 8 and 9 and they were very protective of her. Looking back I guess DH and I were pretty lucky!

Yep. I did. Toughened me up for the real world. I think we taken the non-violence thing too far. At least we knew hitting someone or getting hit hurt. Young kids today are kept so non violent in real life that picking up a gun later and shooting someone is easy. They don't see the difference between a punch and a gunshot. Life is just one big video game to them.

Wildchild - I agree with you about the video game. Good comparison. Not too mention we were much more physically active overall. Today we have obese children everywhere. Sad really.

My Brother and I never hit each other, but he liked to thump me in the back of my head when he walked by.

My DB and I were 11 months apart and we fought a lot. We never really hurt each other, although once he did slam a door on my finger which sent me to the ER.

I agree that things have changed.

My younger sister and I fought a lot, but we weren't allowed to be physical. Well, I wasn't because I was older. She took after my older sister with a stove poker once and a 2X4 lumber another time. She took after me with a tree trunk once and rocks at other times. But I could outrun her. Then I turned around and taunted her to get her to chase me some more! I was a brat, too!

I grew up with 3 siblings in a tiny house with one bathroom and 1 TV. There were many, many disagreements over the years! lol!

Granlan and I threw a few punches when we were growing up. We'd have been hawled off probably. LOL

Oh my gosh if all we did was hit.......my parents both worked at the Ford plant in Detroit and worked the swing shift so we were alone alot....lets see we were brutal and probably would be locked up today.........Stacy

Boy, I wish that law was in effect to put one of my brothers away - just kidding! LOL He tormented me since I was a small child - emotionally and physically (not sexually). I was born, he lost his spot as the baby. I still can't have a conversation with him without him finding some reason to attack me verbally. Even minutes after my Mom died he went after me because my house wasn't tidy enough for him. LOL

My brother Paul and I butted heads when we were teenagers. I learned most of the time when I was pmsing to close myself in my room with a bunch of books so I wouldn't kill him. LOL We had one physical fight when I was 17 I guess. He broke a vein in my hand and I had to go to the ER but I gave him a good swift kick to where it hurts the most on a guy. LOL That brought him to his knees. On the way to the ER my Dad understood why we were fighting but I shouldn't have kicked him where I did. LOL Yes I did. That was our last fight ever.

Playing scrabble with my older sister - I was 22 years old I think. She was sitting across from me and kept making this weird noise -yip,yip,yip and wouldn't stop because I said yip wasn't a word. LOL She wouldn't let up so I threw my pencil at her - not to hurt her but just fooling around. I guess I threw the pencil hard enough that it stuck in her arm. LOL She still has the piece of lead under her skin and she never lets me forget about it. She just says yip, yip and we both start laughing. LOL

Yep Paula, I would have a criminal record too but so would all of my siblings and anyone else I know who had siblings. My parents would too for spanking us.

Yes, we fought, mostly my brothers beat up on each other and on me. I didn't fight back they were a lot bigger than me. Last time my brothers fought they were adults. We were all in the house, I think they were in their early 20s at the time. They were verbally fighting and David (oldest) hit Bill (middle child) and Bill took him down, had him by the throat. He's got black belts in several martial arts. My mom made him get up. David deserved it, had tormented him all his life-lol!

I had 3 older brothers and a twin sister. Our brothers didn't care that we were girls and treated us like they did each other which meant alot of hitting. We learned how to fight like boys did in the 50's and take care of ourselves at an early age. My sister and I could beat up any boy our age and have them run home crying. Not that I am bragging or saying it was right, it was just the way it was. I think today it has gone to the other extreme.

My older sister and I were 1 year & 9 days apart. Yes, she bullied me and pushed me around. Until our last fight, and I lit into her. She quit after that. I never fought with my younger sister. She's 5 years younger. She was the spoiled one, but when she was a teenager, I was married and gone from the house.

I had no siblings, but a cousin was around all the time. She was a year older and thought she was a big shot...she was cuter, had a better figure, etc. One time it just got so bad that I picked up a big stick (we'll call it a stick, but it was more like a club) and gave her a good whack. I had to run for my life, but I can still remember how good it felt to whack her one.

Oh yes, we did fight. Sometimes practically to the death LOL. My brother was violent and we would take it for a while, then the three of us girls would snap and gang up on him to beat the snot out of him. He would leave us alone for a day or two, and it would start again.

I remember one time, one of his friends was over and my brother jumped on him from the top of the stairs, knocking him down. He cried and went home. And I stood there scratching my head and thinking "What is he crying about? He does that to us all the time!".

The sister closer to my own age and I fought a lot as well and it often got physical once we were teenagers.

All in all there were dislocated fingers and LOTS of black eyes and goose eggs on heads and bruises and bites (that even broke the skin). But what do you expect when you are raised by wolves?

We get along mostly fine now ;).

Mark me down for a sibling fighting red sore spots criminal record. and I had 4 siblings, thus, lots of opportunities for fights.

No, I can honestly say that I have never had differences with either brother or sister.

Of course the reason for that may be because I don't have any.

I was an only child until I was eleven so didn't have anyone to fight with(well I did tussle with my cousins from time to time)
My kids fought like cats and dogs when they were in their early teens.Having no experience with siblings,I thought I must be a terrible mother to let this happen.Little did I know that it was fairly normal.There were days when I wished someone WOULD arrest them just so I wouldn't have to listen to them bickering...LOL
Thank God they all grew up to be loving responsible adults and love each other dearly.
I might add that they do love to sit around and talk and laugh about the scrabbles they use to get into.

The one and only physical fight that I ever got into with a sibling was the time when my older sister was being a total witch (that's witch-with-a-capital-B) at a time when I was sharpening my pencil (I was doing homework) -- we had one of those wall-mounted pencil sharpeners where you turn the dial on the side to the correct diameter hole for the pencil, then you insert the pencil and turn the handle round and round, faster and faster, until your pencil lead is nice and pointy sharp. Well, sis walked right past me and as she did so she made a super-witchy remark, so since she was headed away from me I just turned and jabbed her in the lower back with my pencil. The lead broke off - of course - and she started screaming and ran for Mama. I can still picture sis standing up on the edge of the bathtub with her arms stretched up and her hands gripping the shower curtain rod, while Mama tried to get the piece of lead out. I had jammed HARD because I was really ticked-off so the lead was pretty deep. There was blood freely flowing from the wound, and Mama kept saying, "Just wait until your father gets home!" Luckily for me, he was out of town and didn't get home for a couple of days so the furor had died down a bit. Daddy must have been more on my side, because I don't recall being swatted or punished in any way. (Either that, or I was so traumatized that I've blocked it from my memory! LOL)

And, yes, here we are nearly 50 years later and sis still has that lead pencil point in her back.

I was the oldest and sometimes youngest (who took over Dad's farm) and I used to tease and pick on our middle brother, more easy-going.

Once I remember teasing the youngest in the horse barn ... and he took after me with a three-tined pitchfork that we used to fork hay. You can be sure that I got out of there in a hurry, for he was some riled!

I don't remember us doing any damage to one another - like leaving a black mark under the other's skin.

But - some of the most serious, long-lasting wounds aren't the ones that draw blood. Belittling others and cutting down their ego can cause much long-lasting and psyche-shrinking damage that may not be overcome through many years of one's life - if ever.

Fortunately, many siblings grow up to be great friends, later in life.
