First I have to appologize for the bad thing I did (stole some babies from a greenhouse, they were on the floor so I figured they would just get crushed anyway) But, to your question, I just placed them on top of soil and water them when dried out. They are thriving and growing very well. They do not need to be attatched to leaf to grow. They start rooting very quickly. I left the greenhouse with a variety of leaves off of the floor and now I have over 30 little succulent plants growing in bowls. Not pots, styrofoam bowls. I water them very little and most are close to an inch tall already. They are in full sun with 15-20 leaves (plants) per bowl. I did this about 2 months ago and can not wait to see what I actually have! I am bad I know, but I knew that they would grow and that the greenhouse would not mess with trying to save them.

Hi All, I start coleus from seed at any time of the year all the time. They need light (I use track lights inside) and water when the leaves droop or when the soil seems dry. I use seed starter mix as my soil. When they are as big as your largest one I put them in regular potting mix or outside. I've grown the same kind you have in shade (better) and full sun. The pots you have more than one in needs their own individual pots. Remember: as the seedlings get bigger make their pots bigger. Your pots are good for their size but they need their own pot. I get the clear plastic bathroom cups for $1, put two holes in the bottom (reusable) for drainage and move them up to larger plastic cups as they grow. As far as the holes check for bugs or worms on the plant. Rinse the plant leaves off with a spray bottle or the hjsprayer from the kitchen sink - lightly. Fun plants to grow from seed, especially the mixed ones because you don't know what you will be getting until they come up. Happy looking seedlings you have.

Oh boy, you live really close to me. Are you sure the soil dries within 5 days? I thought so too, but it turns out if you leave the stick in for a good 15 mins, you will get a better idea. I have had instances where I thought it was quite dry but turns out it was still wet at the very bottom or around the roots where the soil has really clumped together. This is why I completely gave up on using anything organic. They vary the moisture a lot just by increasing the ratio sligthly. I made my mix every time I potted and realised, some batches stayed wet for a month just because I forgot and used 50:50 instead of 60:40. So I'm just using grit and some kind of clay based gravel. Well it ultimately depends on your climate, I'm not sure how hot or dry where you live is. It was unbearably hot, droughts everywhere, then next week, its floods and landslides everywhere. I don't know what is happening to the climate here. P.S now don't drastically change anything now. Just see how it fares with your current mix. Trail and error, and a lot of patience works best. If it turns out the plant is dying, then you know its your mix. I would say, avoid coco coir/peat. It could contain lots of salt since they process them with saltwater. Unless you know for sure they use freshwater.

DO NOT use a terrarium. Humidity is not a important factor for them. These are not houseplants. They need to be outside in full all day Sun. Acclimate them to it SLOWLY. Use rainwater, distilled water or R.O. water ONLY. They will need 3-4 months of winter dormancy between 35 and 40 degrees F.
