in serious need of enfamil coupons!! help

Three months ago I unexpectedly acquired custody of my niece and nephew. My niece was just 2 DAYS old and nephew is 4 yrs old. The state placed the children in our custody, but yet doesn't seem to help with much expenses on the care/providing of the children. Our little one drinks Enfamil w/Iron, and she is a BIG eater. She was born at 6lb 15 oz one month early w/cocaine in her system! And now at 3 mo old, she weighs a whopping 16 pounds!! If anyone can help it would be GREATLY appreciated! God Bless.

I don't know where you live but could you try to apply for WIC? It's based on income and maybe your family would qualify? They may also take into account that you were given custody of these two children and need some help. I would try calling the office in your area and see what you can come up with. They won't supply you with all the formula this little one will need, but it will help you out greatly. Just be thankful she's on Enfamil. My son took Nutrimigen and it's about $20 a can! It also happened to be at a time when my fiance, his father, was making about $7.50/hr. and that was our only income. We made it though. Good luck and I think its wonderful that you took on the huge responsibility of your neice and nephew.

$20 per can!!?? I definitely would be broke then! Thanks for the info. I have applied for WIC and other assistance, it's just a long process sometimes. They did say that WE didn't qualify, but did take in to consideration the situation....thank goodness. Thanks again.

I'm not sure where 6 grubs per square foot came from. We've always talked about 12 being the point where you should worry. Yes you can fix this but, because it is all weeds, it will require a full renovation. Start with a power rake or slit seeder to chop out all the vegetation. Rake or blow that into your compost pile. Then scatter seed, roll the seed down, and start watering 3x per day, 5-15 minutes each time, every day, for 2-3 weeks depending on what seed you planted. The idea would be to only moisten the seeds at the surface. Do not drench the soil. Fescue would be 2 weeks and Kentucky bluegrass would be 3 weeks. After you have about 80% germination, start to back off on watering frequency and go a little longer duration. Eventually you want to be applying 1 inch all at one time. By the time you get there, it will be cool enough that you should only be watering monthly. Mow when the grass is tall enough to mow - about 4 -5 inches. Mow toward the high side. I like it all the way up, but others like it more in the middle. Fertilize with starter when you start. Fertilize again with a winterizer about Thanksgiving. In the spring, wait until May to fertilize. It will be tempting to push that up earlier, because you'll see a lot of advertising. Close your eyes and wait. If you want to apply a preemergent weed control, do that after the soil temp reaches 50 degrees F and immediately after the spring rains. If you see forsythia blooming, you need to do it immediately. Resist applying fertilizer. Never use weed n feed products. Fertilize with fertilizer and kill weeds with herbicides. They don't mix.

GM, Lots of people who do big-time container gardening are in love with the new poly-fiberglass and poly-resin containers because they give you the classic look of majestic urns and pots without the incredible weight and expense that often accompanies them. I'm glad you're finding life in OK rewarding. We only moved 80 miles from Ft. Worth to here, and guess what we discovered? To our amazement, we found we had moved 80 miles north so we could be colder in the winter (which was expected) AND hotter in the summer (totally unexpected!). We joke now about what poor planning that was on our part! I would miss the thunderstorms! One of my favorite things about Oklahoma weather is the "thundersnow", which I think we've experienced here at least three times.....it is just like a thunderstorm with thunder and lightning, but with snow instead of rain. Until we moved here, I never knew such a thing existed. The brutal ice storms usually miss us here in extreme southcentral Oklahoma, although one several years ago literally stopped halfway through Love County, so the northern part of the county had some damage but the southern part didn't. The closest damage to us was a mile or two away, and major damage was about 3 miles away. During the 2005 and 2006 drought/wildfires that plagued this state, we went months without a thunderstorm here, and it was AWFUL. Aside from the dryness, trees dying, pastures burning, etc., and the exhaustion of having up to five wildfires in one day, I just flat missed the thunderstorms and wondered when we'd ever have one again. I remember that when we finally had a thunderstorm, EVERYONE sat outside on porches and covered patios and watched it rain....at least until a lightning strike ignited a barn full of hay and sent several fire departments racing in that direction. We watched as the frogs came out of the pond and sat in the rain. It was funny. (And the lily pond only had water in it because we kept filling it with the hose to keep it from drying up. We'd even moved fish from the creek to the pond as the creek dried up.) Later, talking to the next door neighbors, we found out they all had been sitting outside watching the rain and lightning and frogs....just like us. We laughed and decided that we all were "easily amused", but we sure were glad to have that thunderstorm! (And we didn't have another one for several months, either.) I love the way my potroast is made. First, I have found that bottom roasts have a bit more fat than top roasts and beat any other kind of meat for flavor and juiciness. I put it in the crockpot fat side up on high for 10 hours. I use one box of chicken broth (never made it with the beef broth, but don't fix it if it ain't broke!), pour it over the roast. Then I mix 1-2 packets (depending on the size of the roast) of Lipton Onion Soup Mix in a large cup and mix that with about 2 cups of water. Pour that over the roast, making sure some of the onions are on the top of the roast. Cover and in 10-13 hours (no such thing as overcooking this kind of roast!) and then remove the meat, cut away any fat and then make gravy. I empty the juice from the crockpot into a big saucepan and bring to a low boil. I take about 2-3 tablespoons (depending how thick you want the gravy) of flour and put it in a seal-tight container with about a cup of water. Put the lid on and shake it hard for about 1-2 minutes. This will prevent lumps. Then add the flour-water mixture to the grave SLOWLY while stirring constantly. Let it cook for about 3-4 minutes, season with beef bouillion and pepper to taste. I get rave reviews of my gravy and I make a lot of it for leftovers. The meat is stringy but so tender and juicy. We like to bake a loaf of crusty bread, cut it in slices and make open-face sandwiches with it. If there is still some left, I mix the rest of the gravy with the leftover roast (cut into pieces) and fold it into cooked dumpling style noodles. SO SO good. Any questions just ask!

I could never turn into the "Coupon Queen" because we eat simple whole foods for which you find precious few coupons. So I don't pay for expensive packaging and advertisement for my food choices, and find less-expensive alternatives for as many other things as possible. In order to keep the food budget to $50/week for 2 adults (which is the FIRST and most successful way to save money on groceries- set a spending budget, and THEN make wise choices) -- maintain a large amount of food in storage, as well as following a well-balanced diet using a large variety of food -- I purchase INGREDIENTS, with which I make foods from scratch, and avoid highly-processed convenience foods. I also take advantage of a home garden and all the free food I can gather (end-of-the season gardens friends share with me, free-for-the-picking fruit and nut trees, free berries, free grain....). FREE beats a coupon any day! I looked at a container of Bisquick Shake & Pour Pancakes ($2 for 12-15 pancakes) at the store recently (it seems to often have a coupon for it in the newspaper). There must be all of 12-cents worth of ingredients in the throw-away plastic container.... (tsk, tsk) I was thinking of all the things I can make BESIDES pancakes from those same few ingredients: flour, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, salt, sugar and baking powder. So the pancake mix isn't very versatile compared to ingredients. There appear to be more food-related coupons that contribute to the "over-fed and under-nourished" in this country. Even the so-called "healthy" selections are simply over-priced, feel-good items which are ALSO highly-processed. It's important to remember for every 50-cents saved using a coupon, it's estimated that you also need to spend $2.00. And as my husband likes to point out, the only way to SAVE money is NOT to spend it (but I digress - LOL). I've seen them called IMPULSE COUPONS. These are the coupons people use to try some new items they may not normally try; things children see advertised on TV and come under the heading of KID IMPULSE COUPONS; and MOMMY IMPULSE COUPONS for makeup, hair-care products, unnecessary laundry add-ins, etc... That being said, I use coupons, but I normally stack the savings - get double value, purchasing an item that is also a loss leader or otherwise reduced or discounted, and see if I can also take advantage of a rebate. I purchase groceries from Dillons, Aldi, and Wal-Mart, and bulk items from a number of sources. To date: $2,200 total in food budget for the year. Spent at Dillons: $934.20 Saved: (according to the bottom of the last receipt) $505.78 this year. This is the only store I use coupons. -Grainlady

Sign up for Enfamil's baby program. They send me the checks good for formula all the time. I've received a few of the 14 oz sample cans in the mail. This link should get you there.

Also, you might consider switching to an equivalent store brand formula. The formula industry is highly regulated and so there aren't a lot of differences between the different types of formulas.

Another option might be to find an Enfamil distributer in your area who distributes formula samples to the doctor's offices. You might be able to explain your plight and see if they could give you some samples. A previous coworker of mine used to live next to a Similac dealer. The dealer always gave cases of formula away to my coworker to give away to friends. A friendly Enfamil dealer might be willing to help you out a little.

I appreciate everyones advice, WIC has came through finally, and I have signed up my entire family for the enfamil.com registration, so they will be giving me the coupons that they receive. Thanks for all the advice and offers, but hopefully we will be ok now.

I am the Grandmother of a 1 year old who is being taken off formula and put on whole milk. I have extra formula here that will go to waste if I don't find someone who can use it.
