Vista computer question

I have a friend who has macular degeneration. He wrote to me this morning and told me he has so much trouble reading what he typed and he didn't know how to make his font larger in e-mails. I don't have Vista, so I don't have a clue how to help him. Can anyone here offer any help. TIA.

Go to control panel and select accessability options. This allows you to adjust for a variety of disabilities

If your friend is using Windows mail that comes on Vista, open up the mail program, go to the very top, and click on view, and text size and set it to largest. If that doesnt work the way he/she wants it to, go to tools/options and click on the compose tab. You can change the fonts there, and also click them to be on bold which should be much easier to read. Good Luck

Hi zep, I have a desktop that has Windows 7 on it, a laptop with Vista,Husband's computer is Windows Vista, Daughter has a wireless laptop with Vista and a wireless netbook with XP and they are all in the HomeGroup. So I guess I am all up to date with all of the networking in this house.

Usually most drives on PC's nowadays come partitioned into two sections. One partition is storing your whole operating system as it was when it was purchased (maybe even a few programs as well). This if for when you want to wipe your machine and it reloads itself from that partition (of course that partition is not wiped). The other partition has your "working" operating system (otherwise the operating system that your computer is using when you boot up your computer). That same "working" partition is where you would store your files, and load any programs that you are using. The area used for storage is shown in your computer info. Hope this helps.

MS Office '97-'03 should install just fine on Vista. My Office 2000 version did. So, maybe if you have an old version of office, you could install that, then use the XP upgrade Office disk. If PhotoShop 6 will install and is compatible with Vista, then you could install it and use the PhotoShop CS upgrade disk. I guess you'll just have to try and see what happens. Vista will let you know if anything is not compatible during the install.

Jane is it possible for you to actually go to her house to set it up? It's probably the easiest way. You still have to right click the desktop to get to the properties unless it's set to load the welcome center, which will take you to everything. Instead of it saying properties on the right click it says personalize. Customizing the desktop can be tricky. After right clicking, on the left it says change desktop icons, pretty sure that clicking this gives the option to add the "documents" and other folders normally found on the desktop. The start button is still there as well, on the bottom left, it's a round shape with the vista flag. Right click, select properties, then the 2nd tab will say "start menu", which should be shown by default, then she will see a button saying customize. That's where she has the options to include or exclude things from the start menu.

If he's using Windows mail, do this to permanently change the font size:

In Mail, click on Tools, then Options
Go to the Compose tab
Where it says "Font Setting", click on that.
He can now select the font size for all future emails that he composes. He can also choose the font style too.

Don't forget to click "Apply" at the bottom, then "OK".

That should do the trick.

To read stuff on his screen, if he just holds down the "Control" key and the "+" (plus sign) together the words get bigger, or conversely if you don't want to continually scroll across one of those wide posts, you can hold down the "Control" key and the "-" (minus sign) together the words get smaller.

Wow! That's cool! Thanks, justlinda!

I knew how to change screen resolution, font size in email, and that clicking on the "100%" in the bottom right corner would change the size, but I didn't know about the "control plus/minus" function. Love it!

You can also hold down the control key and scroll your mouse center wheel forward to enlarge the size - roll it back to decrease the size. Works the same as the +/-
