Just finished this puzzle from a 16th century painting by Pieter Bruegel depicting more than 100 proverbs of the day. Many are still used/spoken today, many others don't translate to todays thinking. Fascinating and amusing. To learn more click on the link

That was really interesting. I read the whole article and the explinations were interesting! Being a puzzle doer myself, this one doesn't look easy!

Growing roses from cuttings is a fine addiction and yours look very healthy. You spoke of rose sports and I have a Moon Shadow that is gorgeous but won't propagate at any method. I finally found a healthy rooting sucker or sport that is growing well but still small with thin canes but we'll see. My question for you is, I've kept my roses tall this year five plus because something is eating all the lower leaves, up to two ft, of the tops. It breaks my heart to see empty canes or flowers that were just ready to open totally gone. The backyard is at the base of a mountain covered with trees. In the front of the house all my roses are tall and flourishing .I'm always experimenting and in the kitchen windowsill have the base of a stalk of celery, some carrots and green onions all rooting well and begging to go outside in the dirt. Now if I put these in a large container close to the roses next to the gazebo which are being eaten, would you think the animals would get into the veggies instead of harming my roses. Poisons, systemics,animal be gone junk, electric devices, sour milk and Tabasco, nothing is working. These aren't big animals, just rats under my gazebo which love to thrive on poison and sometimes squirrels and rabbits.

The placement is based on where the original arch was, which often intersected the stairs, sometimes with an actual pilaster going down onto the run of the stairs. The archway is usually at the midpoint of the room and the stairs almost always start before the midpoint. I am surprised this arch exists as a stand-alone element with the original style staircase and other details. Usually when they modify something like this they do other elements in the style. I would expect to see other Googie-type elements or a glittery ceiling with this.

Well, I've been looking at the dark ZZs... and I see all these names for sale. Does anybody know the differences? Are some of these the same? The 'Nova' types did seem to have the nicest leaf form but might be just random results. Hard to compare plants of different sizes grown in different light. ZZ 'Raven' ZZ 'Supernova' ZZ 'Black Nova' ZZ 'Jungle warrior' ZZ 'Oscura' ZZ 'Black Queen' looking online ZZ 'Dowon' is another name used, and 'Supernova' is referred to sometimes as green, sometimes black.

I wonder if you can adhere pieces of thin, strong magnetic sheet to the backs of the puzzle pieces, then put it on a sheet of metal, like a tray. Then it can move around without falling apart, but also be taken apart and reassembled. It's really gorgeous!

foggyj, not a terribly difficult puzzle. I normally I shy away from puzzles that are on the dark side, but this one drew me in. The dark areas have things going on in them that are hard to see. I copied the picture from the website above into my computer so I could enlarge and brighten it up. That helped a lot to see what was happening in the dark areas.

Alice, I have never mounted a puzzle although many have tempted me to do so.

What a good idea to enlarge it that way.

I have glued several of mine to a foam board or piece of poster board. I do them on a large piece of plexiglass, then flip it like a cake onto cardboard, etc.

You should keep that together and frame it.

foggyj, I have an association with an area antique/steam tractor club. At their annual show, one of the members sells framed puzzles as a fund raiser. The put together puzzles are donated, and that member does the framing. There is always some very nice pictures to be bought at the shows. I put my puzzles together on a foam board, then turn them over onto another foam board to glue them.

I am not sure that this would be a good one to frame. The picture, in it's puzzle form, leaves something to be desired.

I love jigsaw puzzles. Have you done the really difficult ones..........the ones with the picture on both sides, except the back of it is rotated 90 degrees, Gazania? Called The World's most Difficult Puzzles. I did the wolves, the cats and a mosaic.

I don't like them when they are just impossible (for me) to do. e.g. one giant crossword puzzle, a picture of white stones, etc

No, no, no, jasdip. I have no interest in driving myself crazy with two sided puzzles. These days, because I can no longer sit at a table for long periods, I stick to puzzles that will fit on a foam board that can rest on the arms of my glide rocker. 20 x 24 is about as big as it will handle. I did just buy one of gum balls that should keep me entertained for a spell, but first, I have one of many owls that is calling me.
