Personally I think you should pick the pieces and then decide what you want the same and what you would like to be different. I think they could all be different and look fabulous if you use the right fabrics, but you certainly can repeat. For example two armless chairs by the window in the same fabric would look great, and then have the other 2 both be in different fabrics. Have you seen some pieces you like?

Kathy, thanks for the feedback. That's probably a better approach, but I have been more concerned with finding the fabrics that work with what I already have, then finding the pieces! I have seen a few things I like, but am trying to figure out the details now. Thanks.

I'm feeling too many chairs and too many different chairs too, Polka. I wonder if you could do a chaise by the window instead of a chair/ottoman? As mentioned, find your pieces first and then lay out the fabrics. They will impact each other. I wouldn't, though, do the new wicker chair and the window chair in the same fabrics because that side of the room would be too much of that fabric, iykwim.

If you are going to get a new chair by the fireplace, would you consider moving the leather chair to the corner where the upholstered chair is now, and using the upholstered chair and ottoman by the fireplace? Then I think you could find a companion chair (not necessarily an identical style) and have them both covered in the same fabric.

I think the wicker chair might be kind of lost by that big window with just a table. I think two chairs there with a table desk would be great. It would be a spot to play a game or do a puzzle. Armless would be fine and I would do those in another fabric. Perhaps a diamond patterned fabric like this:

I don't know if I'd need/want an ottoman then because of space (of course that saves $ too!). I liked having the chair/ottoman where it is now though (you had me move it there) because it takes up some of the space under that set of windows (identical to the other set). But moving the leather would solve some fabric issues! I love that fabric you posted, hadn't seen that one on that site. Thank you!

So move the leather chair over, and use the ottoman from the upholstered chair with it in the corner. Have the ottoman recovered in the floral fabric or the stripe that you like, and change out the feet to block ones (which you can purchase at the home center) or have whoever does the re-upholstery change out the feet, add upholstered feet, or put on a skirt/bullion fringe to hide the existing legs and wheels if you prefer.

I would look for a chair that has a similar shape to the upholstered chair, if you want to pair them by the fireplace as I suggested, with some wooden areas on the arms, perhaps even on the back, and a similar leg. What do you think of this one? No ottoman, of course.

Then, by the window I see two chairs with high backs, done in either upholstery or in a woven water hyacinth or banana leaf, (with fabric cushions), paired with a glass-topped table desk with simple lines.

Les, thank you. You have such great ideas. I guess I never thought of using the ottoman with the leather chair because it is actually a recliner, but I guess that really doesn't matter that much.

I was thinking of moving the plaid chair (needs to be recovered) up to my bedrooom as I have an empty reading area up there. Then I would get two new chairs downstairs where they get more use. I really like the one you suggested. If you are still reading this, if I am getting new chairs, would you get two of the same ones by the fireplace or would you still do two that coordinate? You have a great sofa to work with in a great room with a great paint color:)

Are you in an area with nice furniture stores around you? If so, get thee rear out there and look/sit and spend time in the fabric room. Alot of nicer furniture stores also have access to good designer fabrics for drapes.

Take an arm cover from your sofa and paint sample. Maybe even draw out your room to scale.

I think your room can handle some larger chairs - not whoppers or anything but your not limited by space.

Do you like anything like this?
