Again, I am sure many of you are going thru one more of Mother Nature's nasty wickedness.

The freak snow storm knocked down trees, power has been out three days and not expected to be back for another three days.

No street lights. No trick or treaters,

Still trying to keep up with the Halloween spirit, strange foods tonight:

Indian bitter melon, sauteed in tomato sauce

Octopus in pepper bacon sauce with pickled pacaya encurtida.

Roasted pepper with tilapia.

Home made bread

Well, you've FINALLY done it!
For the very first time,
I am NOT drooling over your pictures.

But I am gagging.
Literally! !
You have taken things that actually sound good,
And turned them into something that appears
totally disgusting.
All in the true spirit of Halloween, I'm sure.
Thank goodness it only comes once a year!

But even in all their ugliness,
Your platings remain a true art form.
My hat's off to you.

Thanks for that, Jasdip! I somehow figured that out right around the time I posted here last nite. I posted it over on my usual RMG forum so the folks over there can reclaim their "real" names too! But I also agree with Brandon about the graphics! And without the “subject” at the top of each reply, it’s difficult, at best, to quickly scroll down a thread and see the “individual” replies—they all just kind of “blend together!” (And in the past I used to sometimes have several threads open at the same time in different windows, and now, without the subject by each reply, the only way for me to figure out which thread I’m looking at is to scroll all the way up to the top of the window to look at the subject.) And ditto on the fact that you can no longer tell which threads you’ve already read! The “subject” used to “change color” after you had clicked on a thread, so you could easily “check in” and see if there had been any NEW posts since the last time you looked! Now you need to either click on the top thread and actually take the time to look at the last reply, or, I guess, you need to try to remember which thread was on top and “how many hours ago” the most recent post was! Say what? There’s no way I’m gonna remember “how many hours ago” the last post was—and, in any event, that CHANGES! It used to give the actual time (EST) when someone posted or replied, and that I could remember. More importantly, it gave the “number of replies” by each post, and that was fairly easy to remember for the most recent post, but since the “subject” changed color, you really didn’t even need to try to remember that—unless you had deleted your cookies! I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s just a lot harder to work with now—and takes a lot longer to try to see what you want to see. That, and a lot of other things, especially the fact that some old, long posts, that had a LOT of good info, are suddenly truncated, and all that good (and it took people a lot of time and effort to post it) info is now just GONE! I have a lot of good friends on GW, and I REALLY want it to go on—forever, but the more difficult and time consuming it becomes to use, I suspect more and more people will slowly disappear. You're welcome, lisaw. I have known a few long time smokers who were able to quit and there are tips and support out there. Because it is a chemical dependency, don't you think that the initial stages of quitting will be the toughest? Keep that in mind (bet you have) when you're pulling away -- it is the nicotine and addictive chemical trying to yank you back. The longer you keep them away, the "easier" it will be as your non-smoking days begin to grow. It has got to be awful for you. Just the dream part alone. But I think that the dreams are showing to that you are getting stronger -- you kicked that bear's _butt_ out of the car! Good for you! I've heard that one thing that can help is to be aware of the triggers to addiction. Maybe for cig smokers they are things like driving, morning coffee, parties, stress, clean or any ashtrays in sight, and so on. My folks used to smoke and quit in their 40s. Here's a story you might get a giggle from. one my aunts smoked lots and forever. She was a spry and feisty woman, never shy about speaking her mind. She went to a smoking cessation doctor who put a pierced earring in one of her ears. Aunt was instructed to take her fingers and massage the gold ball of the stud earring whenever she felt the craving for a cigarette. One day my father is visiting with her and sees her calmly get a cigarette out and light it up withou any hesitation. my father asked her if she wasn't going to put her fingers to the ball earring and not just light up. "Dammit!", she roared back, I want a damn cigarette!" She developed COPD and had to breath with oxygen. She used to smoke while the oxygen was hooked up (as it always was). Scarey to visit her then. But she was a feisty independent woman who had been looking out for herself for decades. Really, I think her personality, a tad too pigheaded, contributed as much to her not being able to quit as the nicotine. She was by then in her mid 80s and had probably smoked since she was a young adult and before medical information about smoking was out there. She was a real character.

Stop worrying and paint the entire home white! Classic, clean, beautiful. Highlights architectural features and artwork, as well as the shapes of your furniture pieces. And live plants look fabulous against white walls. There's nothing trendy about white. The only caveat is to use a lot of texture and organic materials for some contrast. oh, that octopus looks like it's going to come off the screen at me.
It freaks me out. (did you eat it, or make it just for the pictures?)

Where are you D? I'm in NJ and we got our buns handed to us from that Nor'Easter too, power out 2 days, all the beautiful mature bradford pears that lined our street snapped to ribbons along with many other trees :( so sad

Thanks everyone! LOL! The devil made me do it!

The octopus was delicious, I love octopus salad in the summer time.

Sands99 I am in Westchester area. Power is still out. They are saying possibly Thursday morning. Let me tell you, it is not easy to cook sous vide with a backup generator.

Cooking with a backup generator was interesting. electric power finally came back yesterday.

colleenoz, I was a distructive kid. I was "cooking" all kinds of insects, worms, birds, etc for neighborhood kids.

Dcarch - is that purslane in photos 4 and 5? I still have it growing everywhere in my yard. And a master gardener and an individual who's garden was on the National Hosta Convention tour in 2010 have come over and harvested it for the past several years.

teresa, it looks like purslane to me in that octopus dish. I love octopus, BTW, so i'd eata it for sure.

I really like that first little green creature, though he's too cute to eat!

Teresa, you are lucky. Purslane is delicious. It is also one of the healthest vegetables,packed with Omeg 3 and othe good stuff. I also eat hosta in the spring.

Annie, octopus is one of the most difficult meat to cook. It gets very tough if it is not done right.
