Chicken is not a favorite of mine; although it used to be. My "mother" cooked it too much growing up and for the last 10 years before we stopped talking; would only eat baked chicken. Parents both came here in the 50's from Hungary; there's one dish she used to cook that I ended up finding a recipe for & making it my own. Chicken Paprikash 2 - 2 1/2 pounds meaty chicken pieces (breast, thighs, drumsticks) 1 tablespoon cooking oil. 1 cup chopped onion 3 -4 teaspoons paprika 3/4 cup chicken broth (think it's 1/2 a can) 1/4 cup dry white wine (I omit this step) 1 8-ounce sour cream (I omit this) 2 tablespoons all purpose flour 2 cups noodles or rice *I go one further and add Hungarian banana peppers - or there is a mix at my food store that has small red/yellow/orange peppers *I also double the sauce - use a full can chicken broth & double the Paprika. I use 2 different brands Paprika Cook chicken in hot oil about 15 minutes or till lightly browned. Sprinkle with salt & pepper. Remove chicken & set aside. Add onion & paprika (peppers if using them) to skillet; cook till onion is tender. Add chicken, turning pieces to coat with paprika mixture. Add broth (& wine). Bring to boiling - I don't really boil, I let mine simmer for a while. Cover, simmer 40 minutes or till chicken is tender & no longer pink. This is where I stop & serve mine, using the pan juices on the noodles or rice Take chicken out of pan. Measure 1 1/2 cups pan juices; adding water if necessary. In a bowl stir together sour cream & flour; gradually stir in juices mixture. Pour into skillet. Cook & stir till thickened & bubbly; cook & stir for 1 minute or more. Spoon sauce over chicken

It bothers me that soy is touted as a healthy food, and many people are eating it thinking it's a good thing. But it's NOT. I avoid all types of soy, and I've never had cancer. I've considered almond milk, rice milk, etc. but have you read the labels on these products? Carrageenan is in them all, another thing I avoid. It's also in a lot of dairy, so I read labels to find products without it. Soy, carrageenan, aspartame, the list goes on of poisons we consume. The worst of all may be genetically modified foods, and most everyone is eating loads of GMO "foods" and they don't even know it. The only way around it is to eat a whole-food, organic diet with no pre-packaged foods, snack items or restaurants. This is very hard, time-consuming and expensive. But boy can I tell a difference in the way I feel. I'm just coming off of several months of lots of eating out and snack foods, and it is hard but I'm determined to get back to a healthier diet. From the studies I've read, soy is very bad for those with cancer and thyroid, but it also is bad for anyone. Just be aware of all the other bad things in our food supply, and take the time to read up about GMO's. It opened my eyes about the FDA, for one thing, and made me realize that we are all on our own for finding healthy foods to consume.

WOW! It's amazing to me how innocent this post started and how hostile it quickly turned. I don't feel it's right to belittle and demean people because of their personal beliefs and choices. Just because you waited til 12 months doesn't mean everyone else does or has. Everyone raises their children differently and, I would think, to the best of their ability. Forums, such as this, are to help and support others, not bring them down. Comments like that are not meant for places like this. That being said, every child is different. Every pediatrician will tell you that. What works for one, won't work for the other. This is true of adults as well. Hence the fact, that we have so many medications that do the same thing. One doesn't work for EVERYONE. Anyway. Now that I've gotten off my soapbox..... My daughter is 6 months old and I've been giving her 1 bottle of whole milk a day for the past 2 weeks and she's doing great with it. I also still give her breastmilk daily as well because I feel that she still needs the antibodies in it. (Due to being diagnosed with reflux issues at 3 weeks of age, I had to start pumping.) I have no issues giving her whole milk at such a young age. She started on solid foods at 6 weeks of age because she was HUNGRY all the time. After starting her on solids she was no longer fussy all the time. As for the whole milk, she has LESS reflux issues on with the whole milk than she does the breastmilk (which I also have to add rice cereal to because of the reflux). I don't have to add rice cereal to the whole milk. Again, every child is different and you have to do what works best for your child, and you!

Years ago before Dr. Fuhrman became so commercial, our doctor was following the dietary information he was promoting. Fuhrman had started what he calls the Nutritarian Diet and coined the primary foods g-bombs (Greens, Beans, Onion, Mushrooms, Berries, Seeds). Like most diets, it's centered around eating healthy but g-bombs are foods that are good at supporting and improving the immune system. Our doctor has been on the diet for several years, teaches it to his Resident Students from MSU and encourages his patients (especially those with chronic illnesses or cancer) to use the diet as well. He actually gave us a couple of books written by Dr. Furhman and referred us to his website which has a lot of helpful articles. Honestly? When I saw how commercial Furhman's site is, I thought the whole thing was hoaky and even told that to the Doctor. He encouraged me to look past that and to keep an open mind (and he was right). My husband figured he had nothing to loose by it and decided to give it a try. Immediately we cut 95% animal protien, white sugar and synthetic sweetners out of his diet and the only oil I use to cook with is cold pressed olive oil. He uses milk in his coffee but I try to always buy organic or atleast antibiotic/hormone free. I pretty much cook everything home made so I can control the ingredients and avoid preservatives. My husband loves mushrooms, we put them in all his food, but the white ones at the store are not the best for immune building so we supplement his diet with Host Turkey Tail capsules (I found them on Amazon). The doctor suggested a few different herbs to help with energy because he'll always be on a low dose of chemo. There are natural supplements too that help with a variety of the issues one has when on pain medication or chemo. But I have to admit, what has really made the difference has been this diet. When he's gone off of it, he looks and feels awful, when he goes back on, his counts improve and he feels his best again. We were told to expect his remission to last for 2-3 years but we're in year 5 and his oncologist just told us this week, "it looks like he'll be coasting for a while". (Yeah!) Even though he has an impaired immune system and works in a hospital environment, he hasn't been sick with as much as a cold the entire time. It's completely exceeded our expectations. There's no question that conventional medicine is the best defense against cancer, but not having an immune system afterwards is what really puts a patient at risk. This diet has been very instrumental in keeping my husband healthy and feeling the best he can feel. It's not a substitute for standard care, but it is a great tool to use in tandum.
