Smelly Urine Diapers

I find my daughter's diapers smell so strong of urine, that I can actually smell it when I'm going upstairs & she's in bed sleeping. Is this the diaper or the urine itself & does anyone else have that problem? It's beginning to stink up her room.

My sister used Huggies for her DD, I used Luvs, and I always felt like the Huggies pee pee smelled much stronger, even if they were on the other baby. Just my experience. Plus that first morning diaper smelled much stronger than the rest of the days.

You are correct, sealers help with staining but grout is supposed to breathe. Vapor transmission is part of how the tiling system works. I would think clorox would seep through the grout to kill the bacteria. Maybe try some Nature's Miracle too. Before taking the toilet apart, try spraying a cleaning solution into the crack between the tank and bowl. Clorox Cleanup, say. Slip a flat paper towel in there and move it around to absorb the dissolved urine that's gotten back there. Just keep floating a clean paper towel between the two units to pull the fluid out. You'll see when the towel comes out clean. Do that under the base of the toilet too if there's an open space (not caulked). Stuff can seep under there too. Cover all bases, lol. It really helps when there's a lingering odor. I will never understand, lol.

Do you have a washing machine and dryer? Then you will be a lot happier if you get in the habit of washing them each day. You don't have to have a full load. If you need something to carry them from the pail to the washer, just use a plastic bucket. Rinse out the dry pail and let it air dry. A liner will just be one more thing to have to keep clean. Another way is to put all of the days collection along with any towels or sheets in the washer at night and let them rinse or soak. Then in the morning, add the night time diapers and anything soiled during the night and continue the with a regular wash. by the time that your baby gets older, and the mess is worse, you will be glad that you are in the habit of doing this.

Well - they are not meant to contain urine. Since urine is sterile, it's not much of an issue anyway (just a psychological one). And I don't think babies have a natural inclination to have a BM in water - none of my 3 kids have ever done it. I am actually more concerned about my 3 year old not wiping adequately and getting in the pool than my 7 month old having a BM accident. That said, the swimming diapers will not do a perfect job, especially with a loose stool. And if a child his having diarrhea, they shouldn't be in the pool anyway. I would definitely stay away from the Pampers Swimmies - use the cloth swimming diapers, the elastic is MUCH more secure and it's better for the environment. Babies and pools are just one of those risks you have to take to enjoy life, IMO. Have a fun summer!!!!

Thanks, Annz. There are a number of sites. I wonder if Redbazel saw this? There are lots of reasons for using didies on a dog -- marking territory, heat season, illness, incontinance (often in old age), excitment sprinkles, puppies, recent rescue animals, etc. I love that there is something nowadays that we can use to protect our homes.

Yes, the diaper pail smells of it too, but that's not what I'm talking about. My daughter sleeps in my room, not where her diaper pail is kept & I can smell the urine, especially in the morning before I even get to her.

I haven't noticed that the brand of diapers has made a difference. The last month or so I've been using CVS brand & I hadn't notied the smell until recently so maybe. Before that I used White Cloud from Walmart or Target, depending on which store I hit. I hated Huggies b/c they leaked & once someone gave me a store brand of diapers I thought they were just as good as the name brands. Now I wonder if the other store brands didn't smell as much as this one. Hmmm....

I use the Dri Bottoms from Walmart and they don't seem to smell that bad when she pees but the Pampers really seemed to make her pee smell stronger. Also is she getting enough liquids? I also noticed that when I used the Shopko or Walmart brand butt wipes I noticed they made her pee smell funny.
