Came across this list this morning that compares fast food restaurants across the country. Just click on your favorite restaurant in the list on the left and you may be surprised, both good and bad surprises there.

I'm convinced that we eat healthier if we eat at home. The fat and sodium in some of the offerings is shocking.

I ate at Applebees with friends recently. The man had a deep fried appetizer, hamburger and fries, beer, and dessert. OMG.

Well, I didn't see Steak and Shake on the list. I like the burgers with lettuce, tomato, pickle, mustard and ketchup on them, also the cottage cheese with the pineapple and sometimes the chili and also the cup of mandarin oranges. We don't have one close so don't eat there that often. Oh, I like the iced tea also.

hummersteve: I can imagine the worms won't take to baked potatoes leavings right away. I don't bake my potatoes but may I suggest you "age" your baked potato leavings in a container with some liquid. Once it's mushy, I'm sure the worms will be all over it. I micro-waved potato peels (I know, waste of energy) for a few minutes and then let them sit for about a week or so before adding to the worm bin.

Here are a few of my favourite appetizers: These little cocktail toasts with goat cheese and toasted walnuts are easy and very tasty. Just put a dollop of warm goat cheese on a cocktail toast, top with a toasted walnut and drizzle with olive oil. This tuna pate is addictive. Tuna Pate ========= Although this is a very easy appetizer that can be made earlier in the day, it is also a very rich because of all of the butter. One of my favourites. 2 (6 ounces) cans white tuna drained 1 cup butter 2 Tablespoons chopped roasted red pepper (Homemade or bottled pimentos) 1 to 2 teaspoons capers fresh lemon juice 2 to 3 drops tabasco salt and pepper Puree tuna and butter in processor Add chopped red pepper, capers, lemon juice, salt, pepper and tabasco. Process on pulse until the capers and red peppers are finely minced. Taste and adjust seasoning. Pack into decorate serving bowl and cover and refrigerate. When ready to serve remove a bit early from fridge so that the pate has a change to soften just slightly. Serve with toasted pita triangles Cut Plain or whole wheat pitas into triangles. Separate each triangle and place on cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter or margarine. Bake at 350�F until crisp and golden. Be careful not to burn. Remove and let cool. Serve triangles surrounding tuna pate OR a big batch of these Firecracker Shrimps? Firecracker Shrimp ================== Source: Week of Menus Blog 2 lbs of jumbo shrimp, legs removed, de-veined and butterflied (see step by step photos below) 1/4 cup of butter, softened (softer the better) 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1/4 cup chopped red pepper (red bell pepper is fine, but if you like SPICE, use a red chili pepper) 3 tablespoons of finely chopped garlic 1 tablespoon lime juice Sea salt and cayenne pepper(optional) for sprinkling Arrange oven rack so that it is closest to the heating element. Preheat oven to broil. Line sheet pan with foil. Place prepared shrimp evenly so that there is only a single layer and every shrimp will get maximum heat.

Well, cynic, that marks you as a Minnesotan! My favorites are Indian, Greek, Middle East, or Thai. Anything but the native meat-and-potatoes German/Midwestern cusine I grew up with! Luckily we now have some good ethnic restaurants in the Twin Cities. My least favorite is Korean--just can't get into the spices they use (and despise kim chee). This has been somewhat problematic for me since a good friend of mine is Korean and invites us for many dinner parties. . .

Yum to everything mentioned! I am waiting for my husband to get home with takeout, and this thread it not helping my patience! My comfort food is usually something warm and soft. Soup. Mashed potatoes. No specific recipe -- I think I tended to eat things that were warm and easy on the throat when I was sick, and that temperature/texture is what defined comfort food for me. I'm not sure that this is quite the same thing as comfort food, but I also get a warm, family sort of feeling from sharing fresh fruit. Stems from my father's immense delight at purchasing fruit/hearing that we enjoyed eating it. His family was quite poor growing up and could not afford much fresh food, so my whole life, my dad's always been immensely pleased to see his family eat well. Drives my mom bananas (pun intended) because she thinks he spends to much on food, but it makes him SO happy. The fruit basket at my parents' house is probably the best stocked in the country. Since that was normal for me growing up, I also always have fresh fruit in my house, and my husband is usually so delighted to help me eat anything I've washed/cut up. It's all very homey.

You know I think you can choose to eat poorly anywhere including at home.

When I clicked on the link the first page I saw was IHOP. They slammed it in the article saying it served 1300 calorie crepes! Well sure if you order them stuffed with fake fruit and cream cheese frosting. A crepe at IHOP is just 120 calories before topping. Two crepes with a little bit lingonberries and butter are under 300 calories.

Nobody forces you to choose horrible sides at restaurants.Most place are happy to sub fruit,veggies or a small salad for the fries.

I can eat pretty healthy most anywhere. I rarely order off the "diet" menu. I prefer to make my salads at home. Some of those diet plates and salads are a lot worse than a burger and fries. I make the meal I want fit my needs by requesting it my way.

My favorite "fast food" is the salad bar at my local store. I get two containers-one for a nice lettuce salad (skip the cheddar cheese and creamy dressing) And a second container for fresh fruit-pineapple, strawberries, blueberries and melon slices.

My favorite is our local chinese restaurant. But I doubt it is good for me, health-wise. But it sure is good comfort food.

I don't have a favorite I buy what I like and tastes good to me at certain places and don't worry about the other stuff. I don't eat at the same place every day If I ate at home all the time I'd be eating 2-3 times more than was good for me

I don't eat a lot of fast food, but our Dairy Queen makes a darned good hamburger...and that is what I usually get. I don't care if it is good for me or not...I eat what I like, but fortunately, I don't usually eat their soft serve ice cream treats...just a burger and unsweetened tea....but make it a double...beltbuster. :) What the hell? Live a little.;) As it is, I will probably outlive my usefulness...all of my family lives well into senility.
