Fun Filled Weekend Ahead :)

Hi everyone,

Tomorrow, I finally get to see my best friend and her new baby! My one neighbor (who is her cousin) and her daughters (her husband is staying home), are making the trip down and we'll be having lasagna, homemade garlic bread, Olive Garden style salad (hopefully-she was considering making it), and my strawberry cobbler and lemonade.

Sunday is another cast party at the theatre. I won't have time to make anything tomorrow, but tonight, I just whipped up some Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge brownies (from a box lol) to take along to share.

I'm looking forward to having a good time this weekend! It's been well needed for all involved.

Brad, that's exciting, congratulations to your friend on her new baby. You'll make a great "uncle" for the little one, I just know it.

He had hardy kiwi at peak flavor - maybe 5 different varieties. They all tasted better than I ever remember them being (I must be harvesting too early). He had some new cultivars of Asian pear. He was letting us taste them in comparison to well known varieties. Most of us liked the new one best (he loves the old one). I don't remember the name, but the new one won't be available for a few years. He had some new hybrid persimmons - half Asian and have American. They tasted like wild persimmons to me but the fruit was half way between Asian and American in size. Cornelian Cherry - Cornus mas - most of his had been harvested in August this year. They are small tear drop shaped berries from a European dogwood. Taste like Bing Cherries. He had strawberries that fruit anytime the nights are cool and the days are warm. His chickens eat them so we couldn't find a ripe one but I bought some anyway, just on the chance I might get a fall crop. He had ripe pomegranites but I didn't taste any - my mouth was full of kiwi at the time. His Che fruit was loaded with ripe berries. Whenever I had tried them in the past (on a farm down near Mt Olive NC) they just tasted like mildly fruity mush. His tasted like fig mixed with really ripe cantaloupe, which explains why the Chinese call them 'Melon berry'. I already have a tree but it will be years before I see a berry.

Busy Weekend, Snowy Weekend, What are you doing?

Busy weekend. I got my posts set for the rails for my movable buildings, both buildings! I still need to set the posts for the 2nd position, but I have until early April to get that done! I can now go ahead and start building up on all hoop structures. I am going to finish bending the hoops on Tuesday or Thursday. Meanwhile, I will work on side walls, replacing hoops with metal ones and repair endwalls. I did get 228 tomatoes started and about the same amount of broccoli. I need to start some early peppers, but I ran out of time. I will work on that this week. We missed the snow. Most went east of here. We probably have around an inch. I am SO HAPPY! Probably will be all gone by mid week. Marla: I always feel better after getting outside when I feel an illness coming on. Brook: That is some record. As a teacher, too many of my kids share their illnesses. We have had a really sick year at school. Surprisingly, not too bad at our house. Jay

Thank you, everyone!

My friends already have one daughter who just turned three at the end of September. I found her two presents at the Dollar Tree: a Frozen book and a fake fur tote bag (to make it easy and fun, we put the book inside the bag). I found a strawberry pendant necklace for my friend at a local thrift store a long time ago and now I'm finally going to give it to her.

Brownies from a mix are delicious, I agree! The topping for my cobbler is made from a white (I've also used French Vanilla) cake mix and it's been a hit every time.

I'm expecting a good time all weekend filled with smiles, laughs, and food!

Hi Brad....I'm smiling for you this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time. You must be excited to meet the baby.

Please enjoy yourself. I'm not completely sure what an Olive Garden style salad is, the closest Olive Garden to me is an hour away and I haven't eaten there, so I'll look that up and will know if its something I could make at home.

I had a wonderful time seeing my friend and meeting her new baby, today! The food was fantastic as well! We were all too full for dessert, but I divided it up for them to enjoy :).

morz8, all that went into the salad was a bag of Romaine lettuce (it had carrots in it), a sliced purple onion, cherry tomatoes, whole black olives, Parmesan cheese, croutons, and Italian dressing.

Tomorrow, it's more fun with my theatre family and to enjoy the cast party after the play!
