Mid-Century modern couch on CL

WOW - I live in an old farmhouse, so this sofa is not for me, but I know Mid-Century furniture is super-popular right now. I've got absolutely no connection to the seller or anything; I just wanted to share this lovely sectional sofa from the LaCrosse, WI Craigslist....you can just about hear the Johnny Mathis 78-RPM on a record player in the background.....martini, anyone?

So, let me get this right. He's selling this $15000-$20000 sofa set for $2500?

Sorry, I don't relate to these pieces at all. It will be interesting to see if others swoon!

Well, a real vintage Vladimir Kagan of that size might go for $10K or more, but that sofa is not quite Vladimir Kagan:

That's kind of like saying Grace Kelly and Mimi Van Doren are alike because they were both blonde actresses in the 1950s. But, it is kind of interesting, and could work reupholstered and in the right setting.

Thank-you, ladies! I won't be able to examine them til next Saturday when the seller comes back to the house. The mystery of what's under those cushions will be solved then. He's asking $50 for the pair.

Can you successfully mix mid century modern with coastal somehow?

Pick a white for the walls and then add coastal colors in art work, and pillows and an area rug. The room looks a bit dark and drab. Maybe add some nice coastal color table lamps, and a floor lamp or two. Pick a white that actually is similar to your curtains. Since you havent done any painting yet, it should be easy to get that coastal vibe. You have some shelves there, pick a few things to set there, in coastal colors. Even a few larger sized sea shells. Turquoise and coral colors come to mind for coastal

There are definitely some fantastic MCM chairs that are comfortable. I find some of the "slouchier" chairs far more comfortable to sit in than the stiff upright chairs. We have a vintage Falcon chair and it's gorgeous and comfy. There's a higher backed with headrest version and a lower backed version. It was made in various leather colors and a few different styles over the years. You can find them with or without the ottoman. We always receive lots of questions and compliments about our "really cool chair." The craftswomanship looks even more gorgeous in person. Ingmar Relling for Westnofa Siesta chair is also a super comfortable and fantastic MCM chair. Highly recommend getting a vintage chair rather than a lower quality, less comfortable knock off. We've found some amazing pieces for a reasonable price on Etsy and local vintage stores.

Nothing to do with style, but I wish when I had been shopping for living room furniture, that I had known Roomba cleaners would be in my life. They try to clean under my current furniture and get stuck. I think the new trend in flooring towards wood everything requires an inordinate cleaning effort to stay nice, unless you have hired help or a Roomba in your life. So I like accommodating the Roomba. My point is that you could either make sure you go all the way to the floor protecting it from dust getting under or make sure the legs allow your little Roomba underneath with plenty of access in case it decides to stop there. I'm just throwing this out there in case nobody else does. I wish someone had done so for me

The picture is from 1st Dibs, and it's a vintage Vladimir Kagan cloud sofa, listed for $8900, and $7-9K seems in the ballpark.

Room and Board makes a version of this sofa called the Hahn Sofa (designed for them by Kagan), that lists for $2100. It alludes to the VK cloud but doesn't curve as much. They're big: the Hahn is a bit under 8' and the cloud is 9-1/2'.

Thanks Pal! I think the real one is way out of range, but the repro is cool. I am hoping to get leather though because it wears so well with kids in the house.... The search continues...

I think Room and Board will upholster most of their pieces in anything they carry, however it changes the lead time and the price if it is outside the normal options. Because of the size of the hides needed for this sofa I would imagine the price would increase pretty significantly.

The CL couch is a WOW factor for the right spot, for sure but as Sarah loves to day "can you say RE-UPHOLSTER!"
