I have just the thing to solve your problem. I had a bird bath,that when new was light bright concrete. I wanted it to look like it was getting Moss covered. Just get some yellowish green(Chartreuse) acrylic paint and some Olive Green acrylic paint, so you can mix to get various shades of green. Dilute the paint with water until it is very liquid. I put mine into an old windex bottle. Then spray the item you want to age from about 2 feet away. the liquid will drip down the side. concrete being porous will soak up the stain. I went back and did several layers with various mixtures. You should start with a very dilute mixture so it light to start with, then add a little more paint to darker the areas you desire. Mine have stayed aged looking for 8 years now. You can also use a sea sponge to dab on the color in spots so it looks like moss starting to grow. You could also use some brownish shades if you want.

Speedyedie, no the BM people have been totally useless. I called and complained and told them all about it and they told me to fill out a form. The form they sent me asked for the same info I'd already given them. I sent it back, but they have not gotten back to me. I've also now seen this problem on many Natura postings. I wish we'd known that before buying the paint. I don't even want to think about how much we're spending on electricity trying to solve this. The "solution" I keep seeing is to paint over it with more paint!! No way we're going to do that yet. The smell is pretty much exactly what you describe. We've had the room open and vented w/ fan all day for 3 weeks. Then we started closing the room, heating it to 100 degrees or so for 6 hours, and then venting it and repeating. That brought a lot of odor out of the paint, and it finally seems to be drying. There is still a faint odor when the room is closed up all night, but it clears quickly. We've had the baby in our room since this happened. I'm getting closer to moving her back but we still are nervous about exactly what is outgassing with the smell, faint as it now is. The Baking Soda trick did nothing for us, which makes sense because the smell is not in the air, it is the paint continuing to out-gas, so once you take the soda away the smell (new outgassing I guess) comes back. But it is finally getting a little better. Hopefully it will be completely gone soon.

I feel for you, Marjie. It sounds like you have a leak that you need to address. But with only one full bath in the house you cannot afford the time for the whole shower pan construction. I bought my house in February, and they started the construction right away. I am still waiting for a few final details to be done, not to mention the correction for the shower problem. But at least we had a basement to live in while it was going on (complete with full bath!). Btw, our tub downstairs is that all-in-one construction (fiberglass? acrylic?), which I know isn't the dream shower you were probably thinking of, but one could probably be installed in a day or two without any tile work since it goes up the walls. It has nifty ledges on it. I'm curious what our pros on here think of that type of solution. You could still have a beautiful tile floor which wouldn't have the same waterproofing concerns. I spent a lot of money of my master bath, and I love my design, but the aggravation has not been worth it. And there is still no consensus on what is wrong, or the proper fix. Oh, and another thing. I prefer my new $36 shower head in the basement to the $500 one in the master bath that is too hard for me to turn the settings for the jets because my hands are too small. It wasn't like I got to see it before he installed it. I usually grin slyly when I read about these kinda issues..... First off- "Enamel". The term itself means NOTHING. Never did. It's been used as an advertising term since widespread-use of OIL-based paints started 50+ years ago. Oils/Alkyds usually hardened-off ("Cured") pretty well. So, when the marketing-machine started long ago, the word "Enamel" was chosen! The idea was to make the Oil-based paint film sound as hard as "the Enamel on your teeth"!!! When "Water-based" paints became widespread much later, they instantly became "Enamels" too!! Hmmmmmm......how can this be?!??!?! ;-) Secondly- Your paint IS Latex/Water-based. Oils are becoming pretty scarce due to the VOC-regulations. And....fewer & fewer people even know what they are anymore. It's an equivalent argument to the "explaining a rotary-telephone" to anyone under 30 years old! (I'm 57...) Latexes don't get as hard as Oils. It's both a Plus AND a Minus. YOUR Issue: High-Colorant-Load colors take a lot longer to "Cure-through", relative to a White/Light color. If a customer is gonna paint a bookshelf a "Deep" color these days, I'll usually recommend a "Cabinet & Trim"-Class paint. These versions have a Polyurethane-like component to them. They don't "tack-up" so fast, giving you more stroking-time. Hardness & Leveling is a little better too. I'll also tell them to apply 2-3 somewhat lighter coats. It'll slightly reduce Cure-through times for a dark color. THEN.....I tell them to put it away for 2-3 WEEKS before putting anything on them. >>> Your problem has NOTHING to do with whether it was primed or not!! * For such a textured piece, your coats may have been a little too thick. * Deep colors applied too heavily may NEVER really harden-off. * To be honest......I would strip it, sand if desired, prime to a medium-GRAY....using SPRAYPAINT. Then....find a spraypaint color, & apply many LIGHT coats. It'll turn out beautiful! Faron
